Come

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come, follow me,’ Jesus said”
Matthew 4:19

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Come is one of the most beautiful words in the Bible. It is an offer to participate in something. An invitation to move in a certain direction. It is only as good as the person requesting you to come and the object which you are moving toward. Today God offers so much for you to partake of. He offers you the ultimate relationship with Himself and all that goes with it. What is it your soul desires? Come. What is it that you find missing in your life? Come. Are you weary? Come and find rest. Are you poor in Spirit? Come, take your inheritance. Is your heart thirsty? Come. Do you desire peace, joy, forgiveness, strength, hope, and love? Come. Today, hear the voice of the Lord. He is calling out to you. All you need to do is come.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You love me, and today I hear Your voice say, “Come.” So I come to You dear Lord with open arms and heart. I come to You in humility and anticipation to receive all that You have for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Come Boldly To God

TODAY’S VERSE
Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.
Hebrews 10:21-22

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In the Old Testament, it was the High Priest that offered sacrifices to God for the forgiveness of the sins of Israel. Each year the High Priest would go through the ceremony waiting upon God to see if indeed the sacrifice would be accepted. Then Jesus came. God sent His own Son, Jesus, to be the new Great High Priest. It was His blood, shed on the cross, that paid for our sins once and for all. No more annual ritual. It was finished when Christ died and rose again from the dead. Jesus opened the door for us to have a deep and personal relationship with God. In today’s passage, it says, “Since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him.” Have you ever stopped to consider what this really means? It means that you have a personal invitation from God to come right into His presence anytime that you want. Today, don’t just read His word. Don’t just pray. Today, come boldly to God’s throne and enjoy His presence. He has forgiven your sins and is waiting for you to come and know Him, fellowship with Him, worship Him and live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the sacrifice of Your only son, Jesus, making it possible to forgive all my sins. Thank You that I now can come right into your presence. Help me, Lord, to know You better. Help me today to fully understand Your love for me. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

His Grace Is Sufficient

TODAY’S VERSE
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
II Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all go through the valleys. There are times of disappointment, sorrow, anxiety, stress, and suffering. To those who are addicted, have lost loved ones, are suffering from chronic pain, have incapacitating disease, are going through financial hardships, have been abused, have broken relationships, are lonely, confused or have a mental illness, what do we do with faith? How do we believe in the face of such discouragement and doubt? Where is God in all of this? But then we must also ask, “What is faith for?” Maybe that is why Jesus came born in a manger, not a palace. That He was “acquainted with grief a man of sorrows”. That He had “nowhere to lay His head.” That in the Garden He would fall down in prayer and say, “Father, if it is your will, let this cup pass from me, nevertheless your will, not mine, be done.” Or on the cross, He would cry to His Father, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Perhaps Jesus’ exemplified the normal Christian experience? Perhaps that is why Paul quoted God as saying, “My grace is sufficient for you”, and he concluded that “God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.” Today, when you go through all you go through, may God fill your heart with the peace, hope, and faith that only God’s grace can give you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, there are times that I don’t understand what is going on. Times when I get discouraged and start to doubt. But, I also know that these are the times I experience Your mercy and grace at a deeper level. When I am drawn by Your Spirit to a new realm of intimacy with You. Lord give me the faith, courage, and strength I need for today’s journey. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Desires Of Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalms 37:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you desire? In his book “Desire,” John Eldredge shares how we often confuse our “heart’s desires” with pleasures. His concern is that we have replaced the deep-seated needs of our soul with short term pleasures. Pleasure has become a false God, an idol. He writes, “Wal-Mart is open twenty-four hours a day now, with a dozen restaurants nearby. Next door, a multiplex theater with thirty-seven screens. Or stay home – we have more than a hundred channels on the TV. Then there are computer games and the internet. We’ve discovered gourmet coffee, gourmet jelly beans and popcorn. We’ve nearly perfected our little pleasures. But they are all imposters—everyone. We are so taken by the dizzying array of choices, we never have to stop and take a good look at what we are doing.” He then brings up an interesting point. “Pleasure isn’t nearly so much about satisfying our desires as it is about anesthetizing ourselves. Think about the relief your pleasures provide: Is your desire truly and deeply satisfied, or does the relief come more through the temporary absence of desire?” You see, God knows the desires of your heart. He knows what you are lacking and He has promised that if you delight yourself in Him and His ways, He will give you what you need. No worldly pleasure can do that. Today delight yourself in God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, only You can satisfy the desires I have deep in my heart. Only You know me intimately and have a plan for my life. Forgive me for having my idols of pleasure. I renounce them and will delight myself in you. Thank You that You will give me the desires of my heart.
AMEN

Everything You Need To Do God’s Will

TODAY’S VERSE
May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have the live the Christian life by yourself? Isn’t it exciting that God Himself is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a business person calling you and saying that they are giving you their successful company. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, equipment and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it, that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says that He is going to produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need for doing His will! So today you can go about your day knowing that everything you need in order to do God’s will is already provided. You can know that God is more interested in producing every good thing that is pleasing to Him in your life than you are. Rejoice, God is committed to equipping you with everything you need for doing His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need for doing Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Compound Interest

TODAY’S VERSE
Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many? – When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:9, 12-13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the Lord’s math. He made the whole creation out of nothing! He took the boy’s five loaves and two fishes and fed thousands of people. Can you imagine what He can do with our one life if we dedicated it to Him? God is the God of compound interest! He can take the little that we have and compound it into an eternity of impact for His purposes. Today, do not despair if all you have is a few loaves and fishes. Bring what you have to God. Give Him your life. Consecrate it to Him for His service and then get out of the way! God is waiting to compound the willingness of His people.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, take what I have and multiply it for Your good. I give You my life, here I am Lord, use me.
AMEN

Happy New Year

TODAY’S VERSE
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Here we are at the beginning of a new year. The words we come to 2020 can make all the difference in our expectations. If we are struggling it is easy to see our circumstances and become pessimistic. If things are going well we may be more optimistic. No matter what our circumstances with God we can use words like faith and hope and enter the new year with joy and anticipation. God has plans for you. Both in this world and the next. He wants to prosper you. The word prosper means many things. It was used for completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, health, prosperity and contentment. Any one of those is a treasure. As you come to the end of 2019 come to God with thanksgiving and the firm belief that He cares for you. He has plans for you. He loves you and you can trust Him with 2020.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I commit this new year to you. I put my trust in You believing that you have a plan for me. A plan for my own good. A plan with hope and a future. I come to 2020 with great expectations. Help me live this new year for you. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Don’t Be An Imposter

TODAY’S VERSE
As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:328-42 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to be busy with “God’s work” that we forget who we are working for. Question. What do you think God is more interested in, us or the work we do for Him? You must be careful. It is not wrong to be busy when you need to be. There are seasons of hard work. But why are you doing it? To earn God’s love? To keep up appearances? Because of what others might think if you don’t work at the church all the time? Brennan Manning calls this being an imposter. He writes about it in his book, “Abba’s Child”. “Imposters are preoccupied with acceptance and approval. Because of their suffocating need to please others, they cannot say no with the same confidence with which they say yes. And so they overextend themselves in people, projects, and causes, motivated not by personal commitment but by the fear of not living up to other’s expectations. – Living out of the false self creates a compulsive desire to present a perfect image to the public so that everybody will admire us and nobody will know us. The impostor’s life becomes a perpetual roller-coaster ride of elation and depression.” Mary chose to worship Christ. And though Martha’s hard work and devotion are commendable, this time she was filled with worries and cares. Jesus had to remind Martha that what Mary had chosen, that is to focus on the love that Christ has for us, is really the only thing Martha had to really do. If she did that, everything else would fall in place. Today, might we understand that we don’t have to earn the Lord’s love. Instead, we need to live as if we already have it. We do!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me serve You with a sincere heart. Forgive me for the many times I have been an imposter, just acting a part so I could win approval. Help me understand Your love for me in such a way that I would be a Martha with Mary’s insight.
AMEN

Deeply Loved By God

TODAY’S VERSE
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalms 103:11-13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Our belief in the love that God has for us is foundational to our Christian Faith. It has everything to do with our Christian walk. David Benner in his book “The Gift of Being Yourself” writes, “Neither knowing God nor knowing self can progress very far unless it begins with the knowledge of how deeply we are loved by God. Until we dare to believe that nothing can separate us from God’s love – nothing that we could do or fail to do, nor anything that could be done by anyone else to us – we remain in the elementary grades of the school of Christian transformation.—In order for our knowledge of God’s love to be truly transformational, it must become the basis of our identity. Our identity is who we experience ourselves to be—the I each of us carries within. An identity grounded in God would mean that when we think of who we are, the first thing that would come to mind is our status as someone who is deeply loved by God.” It is this kind of assurance that changes a person. It is this “Aha” awareness that changes the course of a life. It is this realization that gives us the courage to accept ourselves in Him and let go of who we think we have to be. David knew this. You can hear the joy in his voice, the childlike exuberance, as he writes, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him.” This is the kind of love, grace, and forgiveness that ignites a fire deep in our soul. Might this day begin with a fresh awareness of how precious you are to God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for Your amazing forgiveness. Help me not to take this for granted but instead help me find my true identity in the fact that I am someone who is deeply loved by You.
AMEN

Help Me Rejoice

TODAY’S VERSE
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What qualifications do you put on happiness? So many times it seems as if we put conditions on whether or not we are going to rejoice. We must be liked. We must be successful. We have to have the right kind of car, house, clothes or social status before we can really find happiness. But what happens if those things that we feel are so important to “who we are” is taken away from us? What if we lose our job or a friendship tanks or we face bankruptcy? What if we are falsely accused of something or our friends turn on us? Then what happens to our peace, joy or happiness? Somehow Habakkuk found the secret. It was in his relationship with God. He was able to rejoice in Him no matter what. He had committed himself to God and when troubles began to brew, he was able to trade his commitment in for trust. Finally, when times were at its worst, his trust allowed him to return to joy from painful situations. This joy came from a deeply trusting relationship with God. Listen to what he said, “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” This didn’t happen by accident. Habakkuk had a relationship with God that he could return to over and over again. Today begin with trust. Trust Him with everything you have and everything you need. Trust Him with today, tomorrow and the future. Then, when you need it, just like Habakkuk, your trust will help you return to joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to trust You in all things. Help me to put my hope in You. Help me to rejoice in You no matter what happens. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
