Receive Him

Receive Him

TODAY’S VERSE
We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.”
Romans 3:21-25 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How can we be made right with a Holy and perfect God? How could we ever begin to think we could have a relationship with God Almighty? Paul wrestled with these issues and then wrote down some good news. Based on his knowledge of the Scriptures and his personal experience, he was led by God to write down a clear explanation of how to be right with God. He writes, “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” All of us have missed the mark of God’s standard of perfection so God came up with a plan of substitution. He would offer His own Son, Jesus, the perfect one, as our sacrifice. Again, Paul writes, “Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin.” God offers us the free gift of salvation, but we must take it. It isn’t good enough to know about it or have parents who believe it; we must make a cognitive choice to realize our own needs and see Jesus as the solution. Paul elaborates, “People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” Personally, accepting Jesus as the sacrifice for your sins is your only hope of forgiveness and a personal relationship with God. Today, if you haven’t already, come to God on His terms. Enter a relationship with Him by thanking Him for the gift of eternal life and the forgiveness of your sins because of what Jesus did on the cross for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know that I have done wrong and desperately need forgiveness. I want to know You personally and become Your child. Thank You for the death of Your son Jesus on the cross for me. Come into my heart and be my ruler. I accept Jesus as the sacrifice for my sins. Thank You for forgiving me and making me Your child. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
I am the Lord your God. – But you have not listened to me.
Judges 6:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You would think if God spoke, people would listen and obey. But do we? How many times have we turned our back on what His word says? How many times have we ignored the conviction of the Holy Spirit? How many times have we bent the meaning of the Scriptures into our own will? There is dedication and discipline needed to listen to God. There is a passion tempered with a conviction that results in obeying what we hear. Part of listening is repenting when we know we have ignored Him. Part of listening is remembering the past and trusting Him with the present. However, the most important part of listening is spending time with God. Reading His word, meditating on it, and communing with God are the best ways to keep our hearts ready to hear Him. Might our prayer be like Samuel’s, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for speaking to me so many times. Forgive me for the times I did not listen. Help me to seek Your wisdom. Help me to read Your word and to meditate on it. Most of all, might the prayer of my heart be, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”
AMEN

Come To The Waters

TODAY’S VERSE
Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Isaiah 55:1-2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an invitation. What an opportunity. What a heartfelt plea from God to every one of us. Given free will, we can choose what we do with our lives. We can decide who we want to follow. We can choose to fill our lives with things that will never satisfy. But God loves us so much that He pleads with us to wake up, consider our priorities, and choose life. In an allegory, God calls every person thirsty deep in their soul to come and drink His waters of spirituality. He can quench our thirst. Knowing that we are spiritually bankrupt, He says to buy what our soul needs from Him and charge it to His account. And then, in what I think is a deep cry out to our materialist society, God says, “Why spend money on what is not bread and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” God loves you and desires you to live in His abundant grace. Come to Him today. Take all that your soul needs. Feast on His love and care for you. Let your soul learn of Him and grow. Come today to His waters, and never thirst again.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You that I can come to You today and drink of Your love, mercy, and grace. Thank You for loving me unconditionally so that I will never thirst again. My soul delights in You.
AMEN

Understanding God’s Love For Me

TODAY’S VERSE
May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
II Thessalonians 3:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Because of our need to be loved and the shortage of love we so desperately need, we often lead our hearts in places that will never bring satisfaction. We are, like the song suggests, “looking for love in all the wrong places.” Instead, Paul suggests that we let the Lord lead our hearts. When we trust God, He will lead us where we will find everything we need for lasting joy and peace. That is why Paul is praying that God will lead our hearts into a complete understanding of the love of God. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine how our lives would change if we understood how much God loved us? Paul did. He is praying that God would lead our hearts into an experiential understanding of the love of God that results in a full “expression” of His love and patient endurance. Do we want to live a life of love? Do we want to have the peace that comes from patient endurance? If so, pray with Paul that God will lead your heart into a full understanding of His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, lead my heart today to better understand how much You love me. I pray that my life will exemplify Your love and the patient endurance that comes from being secure in You.
AMEN

He Lifts Our Heads High

TODAY’S VERSE
But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
Psalm 3:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many of us go around with a constant sense of shame? You know, head down, slumped shoulders, feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness. Many of us have had this for a long time. We are shame-based; it has become a state of mind. But God doesn’t want that for us. Jesus bore all the shame we would ever have on the cross for us. He is the shame slayer. David knew God in this way. He knew what it was to be ridiculed, underestimated, and hunted like an animal. Yet he looked to God, the one who lifts his head high. We read the story that Jesus told of the Prodigal Son, and we marvel at the forgiveness and love of the Father. Yet we miss another essential part. The son was coming home to become a hired servant, but the Father said nonsense, get the ring, the robe, and the sandals. All this signified sonship. The Father restored the son’s honor. Let God do the same for you. Today, look up. You are a child of the King, our Almighty God. Put on the ring, robe, and sandals, and let His love lift your head high.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your great love for me. Thank You for not having to feel a sense of shame. You have created me as a loved child of yours. Lift my head today, Lord. Help me gaze into Your radiant face and know the shame is gone.
AMEN

Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you desire to live in a way that will always honor and please God? Do you want to produce every kind of good fruit with your life? These are high and lofty goals that Paul wrote for the church. But how do we achieve such spirituality? We do what Paul did. We pray and don’t stop praying that we would know God better and better, gaining spiritual wisdom and understanding. It is through knowing God in this deep and intimate way that we will live the life He desires for us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please give me spiritual wisdom and understanding so I can know You better and better, honoring and pleasing You. Help me produce the good fruit that You desire in my life. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Power and Majesty

TODAY’S VERSE
We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
II Peter 1:16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Bible makes it plain that there is a spiritual battle going on for the soul of every person. It is more than good versus evil. Part of the satanic strategy is to confuse people about God’s plan. We are warned that Satan often comes as an “angel of light.” For centuries, fiction has imitated the Supernatural: fairytales, myths, and stories about people with magical powers. We are inundated with superheroes that imitate the supernatural. The subtle reality is that they plant a seed of doubt in believing that the Bible is true. After all, a fairytale is “make-belief,” so why believe the stories told in the Scriptures? Peter knew this was happening. That is why he insisted that we see that he and the other disciples were not following some clever invented story. Instead, they were sharing what they actually witnessed. They experienced the very power and majesty of Christ. Majesty is the splendor of character, greatness, authority, and sovereign power Christ exhibited in how He lived. What if you and I could say with Peter that we, too, were eyewitnesses of this same power and majesty today? We can, you know. We can experience the real, living Christ today, just like the disciples. Ask Christ if it is true. Go ahead. Talk to Him about His power and majesty. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Today, begin a deeper walk with Him. If you do, you too will join Peter and the millions of others who, through the centuries, have known His power and majesty.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You in all Your power and majesty. I want to be an eyewitness to the same kinds of things that Peter experienced. Help me believe. Increase my faith. Make Your supernatural presence a reality in my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Wholeheartedly

TODAY’S VERSE
Acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts.
I Chronicles 28:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to say that we are a Christian. It’s another to follow Him wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, in many cases, we fall short. But that is not the way God intended it to be. We have been called to follow Christ in how we think, feel, and behave. David knew the seriousness of following God. When he commissioned his son, Solomon, to build the Temple, he challenged Solomon to live Godly. He told him to acknowledge God as the Lord of everything and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind. God doesn’t want pretense; He wants sincerity and authenticity. That is why He searches our hearts and motives. Might our prayer be that of David’s at the end of Psalm 139, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Today, decide to serve Him wholeheartedly.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the opportunity to serve You. Help me to be true to You and to serve You with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

Telling Others

TODAY’S VERSE
I will tell everyone about your righteousness. All day long I will proclaim your saving power, though I am not skilled with words. I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign Lord. I will tell everyone that you alone are just. O God, you have taught me from my earliest childhood, and I constantly tell others about the wonderful things you do.
Psalms 71:15-18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s hard to keep quiet about something you really love. Imagine not telling anyone about your favorite food, sports team, or hobby. If you were picked for a prestigious job or were asked to spend time with a famous celebrity, everyone would soon find out about it. And yet, isn’t it strange that we call the God of the universe our Father, have all our sins forgiven by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and have the Holy Spirit living in us, yet find ourselves going day after day, week after week, month after month never talking about it? Perhaps we need to examine our faith to see if it is real. Maybe we need to examine where God is in our list of priorities. Could it be we need to spend more time getting to know God better? The Psalmist is telling everyone about God. All day long he is proclaiming God’s love and power and the wonderful things He is doing. Today, pray and ask God to give you the same joy and zeal in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so easily distracted by everything in this world that I often forget everything you mean to me. Forgive me. Thank You for all You have done in my life. Thank You for Your salvation and all Your provisions. I praise You, Lord, and will tell others of all Your goodness.
AMEN

Merry Christmas

TODAY’S VERSE
For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6-7 (NKJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often, we think of Christmas as the birth of Jesus. But in today’s verse, we see that it was so much more than a virgin birth. Christmas is the fulfillment of the promise of the Messiah, who would be sacrificed so we could become children of God. And with this comes all the benefits of knowing Christ. Isaiah prophesied that Christ would be our wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. This is everything we need to make it in this life. When we are born again and become a child of God, we experience a new, exciting relationship with this wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Come to Him today. He has the Christmas gift of an abundant, eternal life. All you have to do is open it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Almighty God, I am so thankful that You became a human through the birth of Jesus. You are the great counselor, might God, the everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. I come and worship you today as the shepherds did long ago. Fill me today with Your presence that I may rejoice in the true Spirit of Christmas.
AMEN

May you have a Merry Christmas and a Wonderful New Year!
