Talk With God

TODAY’S VERSE
My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.
Psalms 27:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a glorious invitation! Two elements to an invitation can make it special: who is inviting you and what you are asked to do. In both cases, today’s invitation is extraordinary! First, it is God who is inviting. David said that his heart heard God’s invitation. Have you? Have you sensed that call of the Holy Spirit to come and fellowship with God? He bids you come to Him. God desires your fellowship, but you must come. Second, we see that God has invited you to talk with Him! So many times, we talk “to” God, not “with” Him. What kind of friendship would you have with someone if you did all the talking? That is not fellowship; it is not a relationship. God Almighty has asked you to talk with Him. You can share your innermost thoughts and then wait and listen to what He has to say. God wants to commune with your heart if you will let Him. Today, God has invited you to come talk with Him. Stop now and start a conversation, talk with Him, listen, and let it begin a lifelong dialog.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your invitation to come and talk with you. Today I come to share my own thoughts and situation and to listen. Talk to me God, I want to hear from You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen

Working With God

TODAY’S VERSE
Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
Psalms 127:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God has created us to work in harmony with Him. We are at our best when we allow God to guide us and be Lord of whatever we do. Paul wrote, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” The Psalmist suggests that making plans and working toward goals without God is foolishness. It is wasted. Instead, seeking God’s guidance, blessing, and partnership in everything we do is the wise and prudent thing to do. How much of our lives will never reach their full potential because we do not let God work with us? Today, seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and partnership in whatever you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, lead, guide, and direct me in all I do today. Help me join You in Your work so what I do today will not be in vain but for Your glory.
AMEN

Inner Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. – And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. – Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:16, 18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day could you use strength? Pulled in every direction, we live under a lot of stress. Life can be difficult, and so many times, we feel too weak to do anything about it. Paul knew what weakness was. He knew what struggles and trials were like, and so out of this great empathy, he prayed for the church in Ephesus to have the same thing that got him through each day. He prayed that God would empower each one of the people with inner strength. Not just any inner strength. Not some false hope built on some slogan or specific steps to follow. No, Paul encouraged you and me to build our inner strength by knowing “how wide, how long, how high, and how deep God’s love is.” It is experiencing this great love that makes us complete. Knowing God’s love in a deep and personal way gives us all the fullness of life and power that He has available for us. Today come to God. Ask Him to reveal how truly great His love for you is. As He does, you will experience all the inner strength you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, give me the inner strength that comes from understanding Your great love. Help me draw upon all the power You have available for me this day. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Follow God

TODAY’S VERSE
Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Choices can make all the difference in the world. We are constantly taking in data, predicting, and making decisions. There are so many choices each day we cannot keep count. However, some choices are more critical than others. Vanilla or chocolate ice cream may not affect your world one little bit. But moral or legal issues can alter your life. The friends you choose and the things you choose to do can steer the direction of your life. Who you will marry, college choices and career choices are life-altering milestones. But the one choice that guides all others is your choice to follow God or not. Moses calls it “choosing life”. And like many major choices, they are only as good as the thousands of little choices you make to support your decision. You can decide to cross the ocean in a sailboat, but it is the daily choices you make in re-correcting your course that get you to the other shore. In the marriage ceremony, we ask the groom, “Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health, and forsaking every other, keep to her only, so long as you both shall live?” He can say, “I do” but it is only as good as him getting up every day and saying, “I will!” Moses said that you can choose life by making a choice to love God, obey Him and committing yourself firmly to Him. Today choose to follow God in all you do because “choosing to follow God is the key to your life.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose You. I choose to live for You. I choose to follow you in all that I do. Guide me, direct me. Give me the strength to do this, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Change Your Spots

TODAY’S VERSE
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
II Corinthians 4:16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You’ve heard the saying, “A leopard can not change its spots.” Well, today’s passage begs to differ. God is the God of change. When we become His child He begins a process of making us more and more into His likeness. How? Paul writes that it is through the process of transformation. He says that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind. By his own testimony, Paul shares that he was being inwardly changed and renewed daily. The good news is that our God, the great creator, is also the re-creator. Today, we can present our whole selves to Him and ask God to renew our minds and personalities daily.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am so thankful that You do not give up on me. Instead, You believe in me and have an excellent plan for my life. I come and commit myself to You and ask that You would renew me day by day and make me more like You.
AMEN

Comfort And Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
II Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God knows exactly what we need to make it in this life. He offers us two indispensable tools for getting us through any of life’s situations. He gives us comfort and strength. Comfort calms us. Comfort gives us hope and encourages our faith. Comfort allows us to trust God for the strength to press on. Strength to help us overcome obstacles. Strength needed for everyday life. Today, may God comfort your heart and mind and give you all the strength you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I pray that You will give me all the comfort and strength I need for this day. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Psalms 32:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What hope is found when we decide to stop doing something wrong. What peace is ours when we set out to make right those wrongs that we have committed. What joy we experience when we unburden ourselves of things that have held us, prisoner, in the dungeon of guilt? David paints the picture of inner turmoil and anguish we bring upon ourselves when we store the toxic emotions of a guilty conscience. He writes, “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.” But later, David writes, “Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” Where there is pain, there can be joy. Where there is guilt, there can be forgiveness. Today, come to God with anything that is bothering your conscience. Don’t go another day without experiencing the joy from a heart forgiven.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the substitute death of Christ for my sins. I know I can bring any of my wrongdoings to You for Your complete forgiveness. Lord, hear my prayers of repentance and restore joy deep into my soul.
AMEN

Grace, Love, and Fellowship

TODAY’S VERSE
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
II Corinthians 13:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a wonderful God we have. He could have set creation in motion and ignored the human species. He could have given up on humanity with all the rebellion and rejection we have given Him. Instead, God has made us the object of His affection, the crown jewels of His creation. And as a Triune God, He has purposely given us everything we need to have a relationship with Him. As God the Son, He has given us grace through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As God the Father, He is love, so He shares His nature with us. As God the Spirit, He fellowships with us in a way that is compatible with how we think and feel. Grace, love and fellowship. Today, spend time with God and discover all He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I thank You for manifesting Yourself in ways that I can know and understand. Thank You for Your love, grace, and fellowship through Father, Son, and Spirit.
AMEN

Renewed

TODAY’S VERSE
Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.
Colossians 3:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul starts this passage by writing, “But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds.” What a list. And how many times have we tried to do this? The only way we can successfully eliminate these negative characteristics is by getting rid of our old sinful nature. However, the best way to “put off” our old nature is to focus on “putting on” the new! But how? We can do it by getting to know our Creator God and becoming more like Him. God has put in us the capacity to know Him. His Holy Spirit inside us guides us, and as we attune ourselves to Him, the renewing of our mind takes place. Today, spend time with God. Get to know Him and experience His presence and immense love for you. Let Him speak to your heart. As you do, you will experience yourself becoming renewed.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You more. I want to experience Your presence more. I want to be renewed more and more so I can be like You.
AMEN

A Clear Conscience

TODAY’S VERSE
Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.
I Timothy 1:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If we want to live a joyful Christian life, we must keep our conscience clear. We have a large propensity toward rationalizing away our attitudes and behavior. We will do anything to keep from feeling guilt over something we have done. We bury any negative emotions, and before we know it, our conscience has been seared. But the truth is we end up paying a toll for our lack of repentance. Like the person in today’s passage, our faith becomes shipwrecked. This isn’t what God intended. He made us to enjoy His grace. Christ is the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and His blood shed on Calvary has made it possible to have our conscience clear for all of eternity. All He asks is that we repent, confess our sins to Him, and accept His forgiveness and unconditional love. What is it that has alienated you from God? Today, bring it to God. Confess it and ask His forgiveness. For your own sake, keep your conscience clear.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father help me keep my conscience clear with You. Convict me of sin, and by Your grace, lead me to repentance. Thank You, that when I confess my sins, You are faithful and willing to forgive me of every transgression.
AMEN
