Come Boldly To God

TODAY’S VERSE
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Hebrews 4:15,16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The author of Hebrews uses the High Priest as a model of Christ. It was the High Priest who represented the Israelites to God, confessed their sins, and gave an offering for their offenses. To do this, he would first have to confess his own sins. He would have to make a sacrifice for his own failings. Then, after his cleansing, he could represent the people. You see, there was a limit to what the High Priest could do. He couldn’t help the people stop their sins. He could not meet the individual needs of the people. Today, God has created a better way. He has sent Himself to be our High Priest. God, in the person of Jesus Christ, came once and for all time and sacrificed Himself so we could be forgiven. More than that, Christ is on the right hand of the Father, interceding for our every need. He knows your weaknesses, so He gives you complete access to His love, power, mercy, and grace. If you know Him, you can say with confidence that He is “my” Savior. When Christ became your High Priest, He made it personal. Today, come to God’s very throne. Come to the one who loves you and has everything you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for sacrificing Your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ. I thank You for knowing who I am, You know my weaknesses, and You still love me. I especially thank You for promising to care for my every need with Your mercy and grace. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil,’ which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.
Galatians 5:16 – 17

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The fight between good and evil can get old. This is especially true when we are talking about our own behavior. Which of us has not experienced the struggle between the Holy Spirit inside us and what Paul calls our “sinful nature”? Paul points out the difference in outcomes between both. He writes, “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. – But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The point is clear. Paul says that we need to let the Holy Spirit guide our lives if we want to see the Spiritual results that our heart desires. Today, yield to the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to assist you in everything you do. Focus on the fruit of the Holy Spirit and watch it grow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit alive in my heart. I confess my struggle with my sinful nature and ask that the fruit that comes from fellowship with the Holy Spirit will grow in my life.
AMEN

You Were Made For Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
Be glad in the LORD, you righteous ones, And give thanks to His holy name.
Psalms 97:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Christian life was meant to be a life of joy. God created us for joy. That doesn’t mean that there won’t be pain or suffering. There will be, but like a child who cries when it hurts itself, soon returns to joy in the loving and compassionate understanding of its mother, we too find joy in the loving arms of our Father God. It is this relationship with our creator, this love bond that He puts in our hearts through the presence of the Holy Spirit, that returns us again and again to joy. That is why David could say, “Be glad in the Lord.” The knowledge that God is glad to be with us, that we are loved beyond measure allows us to come to His altar singing a song of thanksgiving. This relationship of complete forgiveness and unconditional love and acceptance by God has us telling others of His wonders. So today, know that you have a God that loves you more than you will ever know. Bask in the warmth of this realization so when your way gets difficult, and you experience deep pain, you will be able to experience God’s loving presence and return to the joy you were created for.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating me for joy. Thank You for Your unconditional love, which fills my heart and causes me to return to joy over and over again, no matter what.
AMEN

Seek Him First

TODAY’S VERSE
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 (NASB)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s easy for us to assume God’s will instead of asking Him for it. The truth is that God’s ways are not always our ways. Jesus said to seek His kingdom and righteousness before anything else. So, if we want to live out God’s will, we must seek God first. A quarterback has the same goal as his coach. They both want to win the game. But the Coach is better versed in the game. He has more experience and a more comprehensive view of the whole game. If the quarterback is going to do his best, he needs to work in harmony with the coach. How much more should we align our behavior and attitudes with God Almighty? A hurtful situation, a wayward son, a sudden illness, a loss of a job. Life has many twists and turns. When they come, stop and seek God. Let Him know your thoughts, your apprehensions, your fears and your frustrations. Come to Him, seek Him first, and He will direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I do “my own thing” so often. I do not take the time to know your will. I assume that what I am doing is the “right” thing. Forgive me. Please help me to stop when I am tempted to run in a certain direction. Help me to seek You first.
AMEN

The Lord’s Face

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
At first, this just seems like a benediction you hear after Sunday church—a nice platitude to give you some hope throughout the week. But when you stop to read this passage, it becomes a tremendous reality you must consider. Why? Because believing this passage can change your life. It starts out by stating that God wants to bless and keep you. What a wonderful reality. You can come to God knowing that His full intent is to bless you. But then the author adds a very personal twist. He is saying that God wants to make His face shine upon you. This means that God Almighty is fully aware of you and is turning His face deliberately toward you so you can make full contact with Him. What an invitation. Today, right now, God has turned His face toward you. His goal is to be gracious toward you and give you peace. He is looking; will you look up? Stop now, experience the presence of the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for taking such a personal interest in me. I want to know You better. Please be gracious toward me, help me experience Your face shining upon me, and give me peace.
AMEN

Talk With God

TODAY’S VERSE
My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.
Psalms 27:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a glorious invitation! There are two elements to an invitation that can make it special: who is inviting you and what you are invited to do. In both cases, this invitation is extraordinary! First, it is God who is inviting. David said that his heart heard God’s invitation. Have you? Have you sensed that call of the Holy Spirit to come and fellowship with God? He bids you come to Him. God desires your fellowship, but you must come. Second, we see that God has invited you to talk with Him! So many times, we talk “to” God, not “with” Him. What kind of friendship would you have with someone if you did all the talking? That is not fellowship, it is not a relationship. God Almighty has asked you to talk with Him. You can share your innermost thoughts and then wait and listen to what He has to say. God wants to commune with your heart if you will let Him. Today, God has invited you to come talk with Him. Stop now and start a conversation. Talk with Him, listen, and let it begin a lifelong dialogue.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for inviting me to come and talk with you. Today, I come to share my thoughts and situation and listen. Talk to me, God; I want to hear from You. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
II Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Are you growing in your knowledge of Jesus Christ? Have you been reading the Bible to know what He wants you to do? Have you examined the life of Jesus so you can follow His example? Do you know how He feels about you? Do you see life, with all its people and situations, with the eyes of Christ? God’s design was that you have more than a superficial knowledge of Christ. It is His desire that you grow in what you know and experience of Christ. That you will understand more and more about the unending grace that He has for you. As you do, you will have more peace in your life. Today, spend time and get to know Christ better. Learn about Him as you learn from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me to know You better. Help me learn more about Your desires and passions. Help me know Your love, grace, and peace. Teach me, guide me, instruct me I pray. Help me grow more and more in You.
AMEN

Do This

TODAY’S VERSE
Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything with love.
I Corinthians 16:13-14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a “to do” list! It is such an important list of things to do for our spiritual vitality. What is so exciting is that God would not ask us to do something He will not help us with. Standing firm is within our grasp. All we need to do is focus, ask God for His help, and be as diligent as possible. He will guide us. He will give us the strength and power to do what He has asked of us. Today, be on guard against spiritual apathy, attacks, and adversaries. While you are on guard, stand firm on His word and your faith in what He has said and who He is. When trouble comes remember who God is and what He has asked us to do. Be courageous in your attempt to be strong. Finally, if all else fails allow Him to work through you and do everything you do today with love! God is good and He will help you do what He has asked you to do. Simply trust and obey.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for providing all the help and strength I need. Please help me to be on my guard and stand firm in my faith. I need Your help to be courageous and strong. Lord, please help me do everything I do today with love. I ask this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN

Working With God

Working With God

TODAY’S VERSE
Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.
Psalms 127:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God has created us to work in harmony with Him. We are at our best when we allow God to guide us and be Lord of whatever we do. Paul wrote, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” The Psalmist suggests that making plans and working toward goals without God is foolishness. It is wasted. Instead, seeking God’s guidance, blessing, and partnership in everything we do is the wisest and most prudent thing we can do. How much of our lives will never reach their full potential because we do not let God work with us? Today, seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and partnership in whatever you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, lead, guide, and direct me in all I do today. Help me join You in Your work so what I do today will not be in vain but for Your glory.
AMEN

Inner Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources He will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. – And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. – Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
Ephesians 3:16, 18-19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day could you use strength? Pulled in every direction, we live under a lot of stress. Life can be difficult, and so many times, we feel too weak to do anything about it. Paul knew what weakness was. He knew what struggles and trials were like, so out of this great empathy, he prayed for the church in Ephesus to have the same thing that got him through each day. He prayed that God would empower each one of the people with inner strength. Not just any inner strength. Not some false hope built on some slogan or certain steps to follow. No, Paul was encouraging you and me to build our inner strength on knowing “how wide, how long, how high, and how deep God’s love is.” It is experiencing this great love that makes us complete. It is knowing God’s love in a deep and personal way that gives us all the fullness of life and power that He has available for us. Today, come to God. Ask Him to reveal to you how truly great His love for you really is. As He does, you will experience all the inner strength you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, give me the inner-strength that comes from understanding Your great love. Help me draw upon all the power that You have available for me this day. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
