God Is Love

TODAY’S VERSE
Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. – This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
I John 4:7-8, 10-12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We cannot separate Christianity from its roots found deep in love. It was in love that we were created. It is in love that our sins are forgiven. It is in love that we are to live for Jesus. In his book “Surrender To Love” Dr. David G. Benner writes, “Christianity is the world’s great love religion. The Christian God comes to us as love, in and for love. The Christian God woos us with love and works our transformation through love. – Only love can soften a hard heart. Only love can renew trust after it has been shattered. Only love can inspire acts of genuine self-sacrifice. Only love can free us from the tyrannizing effects of fear. There is nothing more important in life than learning to love and be loved. Jesus elevated love as the goal of spiritual transformation.” How about you? Have you surrendered to God’s love? Have you accepted His gift of salvation and His unconditional love He has for you? If not, surrender today. Give Christ your heart. Let His love wash over your soul and renew you from the inside out. God is love, and He loves you. Live in that love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You indeed are love. It is your essence. Your love is pure and powerful, and You have set Your affection on me. Thank You for Your love. I accept it and want to live every moment keenly aware that You love me. Please help me to that end. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Live The Gospel

TODAY’S VERSE
We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. – We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.
II Corinthians 6:3, 6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christ has commanded us to be His servants in this world. We represent Him, so when people see us, they should see Him. In today’s passage, we see that the Apostle Paul was trying to live in such a way that nobody could discredit the Lord because of his ministry. But how did he do this? Paul did it by the way he lived. He was able to overcome any false allegations by his pure lifestyle, allowing him to have moral authority. His understanding of God, the scriptures, his ministry, and the culture permitted him to be above reproach. Paul was patient in his suffering. Paul was also kind, and this kindness caused many to consider believing in the God he believed in. Paul believed deeply in the Holy Spirit, and it was the Holy Spirit that filled him and equipped him for ministry. Finally, Paul’s sincere love enabled him to live among so many different groups and win people to Christ. Today, let us go into the world God has called us to minister in. Let’s live the same way Paul did and help others to come to a saving knowledge of Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live like Paul. Help me live in a way that those around me would see something in me that would lead them to You.
AMEN

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
You have endowed him with eternal blessings and given him the joy of your presence.
Psalms 21:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Here, we see King David writing a psalm about God’s blessing in his life. David felt blessed because God gave him the joy of being in His presence. Joy comes from deep bonded relationships, especially with God. That is why we were created. God desires our fellowship. He has endowed each of us with eternal blessings that come from the joy of His presence. But do we even pay attention to God? Much like a marriage, you can enjoy each other’s company or keep busy ignoring each other’s companionship and wonder years later why the love is gone. Today, choose to be conscious of the presence of God. Choose to stop and meditate on who He is and the infinite love He has for you. When you do, you will find true joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me conscious of Your presence. Help me to experience today the deep joy of knowing You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and fill my heart with Your love.
AMEN

Your Own Journey

TODAY’S VERSE
Peter asked Jesus, ‘What about him, Lord?’ Jesus replied, ‘If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.’
John 21:21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life is a journey with many twists and turns. And it is different for each of us. We all travel different roads. If we are going to live the way He desires, we must be willing to follow Him. In his book “Sacred Companions”, David Benner writes, “It is impossible to specify precisely the route that has to be followed in a soul’s journey of transformation. This is because rather than following a map, in this journey we follow a person – Jesus. Jesus does not tell us where to go; He simply asks us to follow Him.” Jesus compared us to sheep. He said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” When Peter worried whether John’s journey was going to be similar to His, Jesus rebuked Peter and said, “What is that to you? As for you, follow me.” It is the same for us today. We don’t need to be concerned with others and what God has for them. All we have to do is get to know God, understand His purposes for us, and begin to follow Him. Today, obey His command to “follow me” and seek God’s direction for your journey.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me follow You. Give me the wisdom, courage, and understanding I need to participate in the journey You have for me.
AMEN

Pursuing You

TODAY’S VERSE
Surely, your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.
Psalms 23:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Psalms 23 is perhaps the most famous passage in the Bible. Parts like, “Though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil” make it a favorite at funerals. At the end of the chapter, there is a glorious verse. Usually, it reads, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” It sounds so poetic, but do we understand the meaning? Today’s passage says it in a slightly different way, a way that brings out the true sense. It reads, “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.” See the difference? It is not some passive “following”. It is not a result of any good we have done. Instead, it says that God “pursues” us with His unfailing love and goodness. Not just temporarily, but all the days of our lives! He pursues you. If you ignore Him, He pursues. If you take Him for granted, He pursues. Even if you turn your back on Him, His unfailing love and goodness pursue you. Today, live in the joy that God is pursuing you with His love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh, Father, thank You for pursuing me with Your unfailing love and goodness. Today, help me live in the joy of that reality.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins.
Psalms 103:2-3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a beautiful plan. God creates us for fellowship with Him. Like Adam and Eve, God allows us free will to choose to love Him and follow His ways. All the while, God knows He has created us with a human condition that tempts us to stray from Him and His Holy standard. Yet because of His unconditional love for us, He can forgive every transgression through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross. John writes, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Today, confess anything that is between you and God. Get your conscience clear with Him. When you do, God promises to forgive.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit, who convicts me of sin. Thank You also for Jesus Christ, who took my place on the cross. Guide me today and help clear my conscience with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalms 103:11-13

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Guilt is an insidious emotion. The Psalmist knew this firsthand. He wrote, “I am dying from grief; my years are shortened by sadness. Sin has drained my strength; I am wasting away from within.” His sin had caused him much grief. It affected him emotionally and physically. Our misbehavior, our rebellion toward God, does the same to us today. Hundreds of studies have linked toxic emotions to physical disease. But it doesn’t have to be that way. God has provided a way for us to have freedom from guilt. It is through the forgiveness offered by the death of His son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The Apostle John wrote, “If anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins and not only our sins but the sins of all the world.” Do you know this same Jesus as your personal Savior? Have you accepted His death on the cross as the penalty for your misdeeds? If so, you can say with the Psalmist that as high as the heavens are above the earth, your personal history, with all its pain and regret, is removed from God’s sight. They are as far as the east is from the west.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for my sins. Thank You that when I confess and renounce any wrongdoing, You will quickly forgive and cleanse me. I thank You for Your unconditional love that takes all my guilt and casts it into the deep sea. I praise You for the unbelievable grace You give to me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Waiting On God

TODAY’S VERSE
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s passage is one of the secrets to living a joyful life. Other translations use “hope” or “trust” instead of wait. But with the word “wait,” you have hope and trust in action. Waiting is a verb. So often, WE want to do something and don’t wait to let God do His will. We want to “fix” things when God wants to bring change. Waiting is often the most challenging work we can do. And the most profitable. So when you are worried sick – wait on the Lord. When you first get up in the morning– wait on the Lord. When your child is late getting home – wait on the Lord. When your money is running out – wait on the Lord. When you get discouraging news – wait on the Lord. Today, wait on the Lord, and He will renew your strength. He will help you soar like an eagle. He will help prevent you from getting weary or fainting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me learn to wait on You. Help me trust You and put all my hope in You. Thank You for Your promise that I will not grow weary or faint.
AMEN

A Road Through The Sea

TODAY’S VERSE
Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there!
Psalms 77:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This is from a Psalm written by Asaph. It is a Psalm where he spews out all his distress and frustration with God and the way his life was going. He says, “Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion?” And if we were honest, we would admit that there are times when we have thought the same thing. But something happened. Asaph started to remember all that God had done in the past and started to overlay that on the present and the future. As you would with a business that is going bad, you would look over the situation, remember business principles, apply them to your situation, and start to make corrections. Circumstances were horrible, but God’s love and power were the same. Asaph focused on all the good God had done and wrote, “Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders!” And then he remembered (I love this) that God led His people out of Egypt via a road, but not an ordinary road. No, a road that led through the Red Sea! A road no one would have ever thought of. That is the God we follow. That is the God we can trust in. He has a road for you. No matter how bad it looks, follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining. So many times, I have forgotten how wonderful You are. I have forgotten about the Red Sea. Help me to trust You more. Today I commit to following the path You have for me.
AMEN

My Generation

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.
Psalms 78:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How personal is God to you? How have you applied faith to your own circumstances? Are you living with a vibrant, relevant trust in God for your own personal circumstances or are you simply involved in a passed down religious experience. Now it is true that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, but each generation has a new set of circumstances, and we must appropriate faith to our own unique situation. We can’t live off the faith of previous generations. True, we must not forget the great deeds that God has done in the past, and we must keep His commands and teachings, but now we have to take all we have heard and know and make it true for us. This is our time to step up and trust God. So today, as different as this time is from all other times before, know that God is with you and set your hope on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You and put my faith in You. I need You for such a time as this. I need You for specific needs in my life. I ask You to be the Lord of my life in this generation. Help me to live for You today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
