Dance

TODAY’S VERSE
I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.
Galatians 3:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In today’s verse, Paul asks a serious question. Does God give us the Holy Spirit and work miracles because we are good? The answer should be obvious. But is it? Frankly, I feel the question hits a nerve! The Galatians fell into the same trap that many of us do. We don’t know how to receive love. We have a deep-seated need to earn it. Now, theologically, in our head, we know we can’t “earn” our salvation or the Holy Spirit or God’s favor, but that doesn’t stop our hearts from trying. Somewhere along the line, we emotionally learned that we must perform, do right, and make good if we are going to be loved. And so, we have our own kind of “law”. That is not what Paul wrote. Paul’s answer was simple. He wrote, “Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.” The message that He loves you, that His grace is sufficient, that His death on the cross was all that was needed for your salvation. Today, do not turn your head and look at the ground in shame when He says, “I love you.” There is nothing to earn here. He loves you just as you are. My friend, you can keep your dancing shoes on if you want, but not to perform for Him. You don’t have to. Rather dance, just dance in praise for His great love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am driven to perform, but You are driven to love. Thank You that Your love wins. I surrender my need to perform for You and accept Your amazing love and forgiveness. Thank You for loving me.

Renew My Mind

TODAY’S VERSE
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to allow secular thinking to creep into our everyday lives. David Kinniman, the president of the Barna Group, writes that “we live in a society that values fairness over justice, consuming over creating, fame over accomplishment, glamour over character, image over holiness, and entertainment over discernment.” How true. The Kingdom of God has values that are counter to those that have been embraced by modern society. So what can we do? The secret, Paul shares, is to allow God to constantly transform us by changing the way we think. As we pray, read the word, and commune with the Holy Spirit, we will begin to see the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control become realities in our lives. Peter shares that as you gradually increase faith, moral excellence, spiritual knowledge, self-control, patient endurance, Godliness, brotherly affection, and love for everyone, you will be more productive and useful in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. So today, examine your life and let God transform you by changing the way you think.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your Holy Spirit to help me. I am so vulnerable. It is so easy for me to copy the behavior and customs of the world. Please help renew my mind and make me the person you want me to be.

What Should I Do?

TODAY’S VERSE
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you hit a wall. Something comes along and has you completely baffled. You have no answers. Nothing makes sense. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for what is happening. It is easy to simply emote, get frustrated, complain, cry out or just quit. But what does that solve? Instead, what can you do? James offers a solution. He says, “Ask God for wisdom.” James says if we lack wisdom, we can ask God, and He will give it to us. So today, stop, wait on God, cry out to Him, and He promises He will generously provide you with wisdom.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I need wisdom. I need Your guidance and understanding. You have promised that You will give wisdom to me generously. I come to You in faith, asking You to provide that wisdom today. In Jesus’ name.

The Fruit Of The Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. What a list. It is easy to focus on each attribute and begin to feel overwhelmed by the challenge to master each one. But that is not what today’s verse is suggesting. Instead, it is saying that the list of attributes is the result of living in the Spirit. It’s the Spirit’s fruit. In nature, if we want fruit, we must nourish the tree it grows on. Fruit is only produced when the tree is healthy. Likewise, when we fellowship with the Spirit, live in harmony with His direction, and follow His leading every day, the Spirit’s fruit will be produced in our lives. As the Holy Spirit instructs, rebukes, guides, and comforts us, if we respond to His voice, we will experience His fruit.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I want Your fruit to grow in my life. I know that is only possible through letting You guide my life. Help me hear Your promptings. Let me experience fellowship with You today. Please guide me in all things. Fill me, Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, I ask it.

Trust, Delight, and Commit

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this.
Psalms 37:3-5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a spiritual rhythm in these three verses. It speaks to the soul. It is like drinking a tall, cool glass of water after coming in from a steamy, hot day. Somehow, trust, delight, and commit seem to go together. Today, start with trusting God. Give everything over to Him. Then stop and delight in Him. Feel His love. Let Him give you deep joy. Finally, bow before Him and commit everything to Him. Put your life in His hands. And you know what? He says He will give you the desires of your heart. It doesn’t get any better than this!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You now and trust You with all my concerns and worries. I choose to delight in You. I commit myself joyfully into Your hands. Thank You that You have promised that if I trust, delight, and commit to You, You will give me the desires of my heart.

Overcome Temptations

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life is hard. It is easy to be tempted to take the easy way out. Easy to complain. Easy to give up. But what a slippery slope we walk on. Lying, cheating, substances, gambling. These are the temptations we hear about the most. But what about the temptation to hate, become overly angry or ungrateful? You see, we are all tempted to behave like we shouldn’t. What’s your temptation? Do you feel hopeless to overcome? Are you in total denial? Whatever your temptations are today, God knows and is waiting for you to come to Him for help. “He will never let you be pushed past your limit; He will always be there to help you come through.” Call on Him today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know the temptations I face. I have been in such denial. I have felt so helpless at times. I can’t do this life without You. Thank You for promising that You will always be there to help me. Help me today. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Your son, my Savior.

God’s Way

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times have we regretted something we said or did? We were too hasty, reacting before we could think. How much pain have we caused acting out of anger, not concerned about the consequences? James admonishes us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. How different would our life be if we would follow this simple advice? How more effective would we be in our job, ministry, or dealing with those in our family? What opportunities to heal and bless others would be ours if we submit to James’ behavior code? Today, we can make a choice. Choose to listen. Choose to think before we speak. Choose to pray before we act out our anger. With God, all things are possible.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I ask for Your help this day to watch my tongue and emotions. Please help me to listen to others. Help me to be careful before I speak, and help me control my temper. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so I can be more like Your Son Jesus.

Don’t Fool Yourself

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In today’s multitasking world, it is hard to focus on anything for more than five minutes. Interruptions have become a fact of life. There are emergencies and just-in-time deadlines, and we make judgments on the fly and hope that they stick. Well, if we are going to make it spiritually, we have to be intentional. It isn’t good enough to hear the Bible, a verse here, a sermon there. We need to know the Word of God. And then, most importantly, we need to do it. Start today; make a commitment to study the Bible and apply it to your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I know that it is Your joy to help me learn the Word of God and apply it to my life. I invite You to be my teacher, guide, and mentor. Please help me start today to make the Bible a priority in my life. In Jesus’ name.

His Grace Is All You Need

TODAY’S VERSE
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you.”
II Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul the Apostle was distraught. He had asked God three times to help alleviate a situation plaguing him. God did not relieve the situation, but God did promise Paul that His grace was sufficient for him. Grace, what a word! It means God’s concern, His favor, His provision, His friendship, all this, without any merit on our own that would cause Him to act favorably toward us. It is from the depth of His unconditional love for us that He helps us in the inner person. He will do whatever it takes to get us to the other side. His grace is sufficient for anything you bring to Him today. Will you accept it?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come to You needy. I come with an empty cup and ask that You fill it today with Your grace. Let me drink of it. Let it go down deep into my soul until I can say with confidence, “Your grace is sufficient for me.” Thank you, Lord! In Jesus’ name.

What Are You Remembering?

TODAY’S VERSE
I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.

TODAY’S THOUGHTS
What we choose to dwell on impacts our thinking and eventually our actions. Jeremiah had plenty to lament about. God’s mission for him was difficult. He had to wander about the land with a thankless job. If he dwelled on it, he became bitter and downcast. But Jeremiah had a choice; he could also remember God’s faithfulness. When he did, it lifted his spirits. Jeremiah learned the secret to abundant living. He discovered how to have hope. He decided to meditate on the fact that God was not finished with him yet! That God’s compassion toward him NEVER fails. He recalled how God’s compassionate thoughts toward him were new every morning. Jeremiah concluded that God’s faithfulness is indeed great! How about you? When you start your day, what do you think about? What do you remember? Is your soul downcast, or are you excited about God’s love for you? Today, choose to dwell on God’s great compassion and let it give you the same hope that it gave Jeremiah.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for dwelling on the negative. I stop now to give You thanks. Thank You that You have compassionate thoughts about me. Please help me understand and believe that. Let it shape my thoughts today. Thank You for Your great faithfulness. In Jesus’ name.
