Show Me Your Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” – Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
Exodus 33:14-15, 18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The people of God had sinned. While Moses was on the mountain top receiving the ten commandments from God, the people were rebelling by creating an idol and worshipping it. God was angry and was going to destroy the people. However, Moses pleaded with God to spare the people. Finally, God told Moses to take the people away without Him lest His fierce anger come against them. Moses knew better than to lead these people without God’s guidance, so he asked to reconsider and lead the people with His own presence. Moreover, Moses asked God to reveal His glory to him. Oh, that we would seek out and depend upon the presence of God the same way Moses did! What a difference it would make in our lives. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer”, Rick Richardson writes, “Do you long to be filled at the core of your being with more strength, more substance, more hope? You may feel urgent need of immediate help and practical steps. But I implore you to realize that knowing God, practicing God’s presence and seeking God’s life are more important to your healing than anything else in all the world.” C.S. Lewis, in his book “Miracles,” writes, “The presence of God is the most real thing we ever encounter.” Today, decide, like Moses, not to go any further, not to consider any new direction, without being conscious of God’s presence. Might we pray, “Lord, show me Your glory.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know so little about Your presence. All I know is I don’t want to take another step without really knowing You. Lord, help me become aware of Your Glory. Reveal Yourself to me. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Sit Before The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
Then went King David in, and sat before the LORD.
II Samuel 7:18 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love this verse. The Bible makes it clear that King David was a “man after God’s own heart.” David knew the heart of God and wrote many of the beautiful Psalms that we have come to love. In today’s passage, we see David was moved deeply by God and had to talk to Him. What I love is that David went and sat before the Lord. This was so important to David that he established a special tent, the Tabernacle of David, so he could be in the presence of God without breaking the sacrificial law. The Priests could only come into the presence of the Lord and stand. There were no chairs in the Tabernacle. They stood and performed the ceremonies as were set down in the law. No more, no less. And here was David, like a child before his Father, sitting, no doubt in deep reverence but also in love. Love for His heavenly Father. And because of Jesus and His sacrifice for us, we too have become children of God. We have the privilege of sitting in His presence at any time we desire. The Lord bids us come to Him, worship Him, share with Him, and pray to Him. Today, sit before Him, enjoy His presence. Share with Him your burdens, your concerns. Express to Him your joy and your love. What a glorious privilege is yours to sit before God Almighty.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, I sit before You in deep wonder and worship. Who am I that You would allow me to know You, and yet You do. Your love for me is immeasurable. I sit in worship and adoration. I sit in humility and praise Your Holy name. You are my God, and I sit humbly before You.
AMEN

I Want To See!

TODAY’S VERSE
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!”
Mark 10:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“I want to see.” That may be an obvious answer for a blind person who is asked by Jesus, “What do you want me to do for you?” Sight is a precious gift that we quickly take for granted. But as I read this, I thought, I too need to ask for sight. Not physical but spiritual. I am so blind to the things of God. The cry of my heart is, “I want to see.” I want to see, like the servant of Elisha, who was afraid of the enemy armies until Elisha prayed, “O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!” The Bible says, “The LORD opened the young man’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire.” He saw reality with spiritual eyes. I also want to see the way Paul prayed we should see. He wrote, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Today, when God asks you, “What do you want me to do for you?” answer, “Help me to see.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me with my spiritual blindness. Open my eyes, Lord, that I may see what you want me to see.
AMEN

Run The Race

TODAY’S VERSE
And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I have run/walked over twenty-five thousand miles in my lifetime. Most of those miles were times of solitude, just the Lord and me. Much of it was spent in prayer, praying for my family and friends. I love running. But racing was different. I would arrive at a race, and the course would stretch over miles of terrain that I knew nothing about. The pace would be faster, and the distance often a lot longer than my daily journey. It was all about endurance. And just as the author of Hebrews suggests, I would pick out a runner ahead of me and pace myself. I would watch their moves, mimic their stride, and slowly catch up and pass them. I would picture myself being able to match and surpass their performance. But here, the author of Hebrews is talking about life. It is the ultimate challenge. It is an arduous journey that requires all the mental and spiritual strength we can muster. To run it with the necessary endurance, we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. He knows the way. He has the pace. Though we will never catch Him, nevertheless, to run the race well, we must mimic Him. We do what He does, and being the champion that He is, He will get us safely to the finish line. Today, run with Jesus, let Him lead your way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, I am grateful that I don’t have to face life alone. I am so thankful that You are my Savior and that You are committed to getting me through this race of life. Help me keep my eyes on You.
AMEN

Stronger Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.
Romans 4:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How does that happen? How does one’s faith grow stronger? Abraham knew God, and his life’s circumstances were continually challenging him, yet his faith grew stronger. Paul shares, “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise.” God called Abraham and promised that through him, He would start a new nation. When he considered his age and the age and barrenness of Sarah, his wife, he remembered, “God promised.” Time passed, living in tents, and yet he remembered, “God promised.” When he faced the challenge of ending his son’s life on the altar, he leaned on the fact that “God promised.”
Consequently, each time Abraham remembered God’s promise, his faith grew. God’s promises are real, but they do you no good if you don’t know them. Today, get to know God’s word and all the promises He has for you, and start to believe for yourself.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know and believe Your promises. Help my faith grow stronger, even today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are two ways to look at today’s passage. The first is the most obvious. God in His omnipresence is everywhere you go and nothing can separate you from Him or His love for you. It is God-dependent. God has taken on the challenge always to love you no matter what outward circumstances you may be in. And He can do this because, as John writes, “God is love.” But there is another reality that is hidden in today’s verse. That is your own “inward state awareness of God’s love.” As you mature, you assimilate your circumstances and influences around you. You allow them to create in you an inner state of being. It is like a person who has a loving caregiver knows, even when they are separated for long lengths of time, they are still loved by that person. The love was just as real in the person’s absence as in their presence. This is because, over time, the consistency of the love of their caregiver had become part of their inner state of being. How much more can this be true of God? God has created you with the ability to know His love. Know it in such a profound way that even in dire circumstances, you can experience His loving presence. As you fellowship with God and get to know His heart, His love will create in you a trusting confident state of mind. You will be convinced that what Paul said is true. Nothing can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your deep love for me. Thank You for allowing me the privilege of knowing You and having Your love become a part of my very being. Help me to trust in that love.
AMEN

Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”
Isaiah 30:21 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to hear someone and not listen to a word they are saying. We get so engrossed in what we are doing that we half-listen. How many times are we that way with God? We get up in the morning and barely say, “Hi” to Jesus and then bust out the door. We may spend some time reading and offering up prayer requests, but do we listen to God? God wants a relationship; He desires to communicate with us. He has answers to questions like, “Lord, what do You want to say to me?” “Jesus, what do you want me to do today?” There is a whole new spiritual experience waiting for us if we just stop to listen. Today, spend time with God, and your ears too will hear a word, a word from God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need a word from You. Help me today to stop and listen. I come and say with Samuel, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.”
AMEN

Press On

TODAY’S VERSE
I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, – But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.
Philippians 3:13, 16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We find ourselves in so many difficult situations. Often, it is so hard to discern God’s will. I could easily spend all my time asking, “Why?” I could spend endless hours full of bitterness, fear, or sorrow. But then what? What has this accomplished? Isn’t faith about trusting God even when things don’t go the way we think they should? Isn’t His will for us to let go, trust Him, and move on? But we want closure. There must be justice, revenge, or something that has a semblance of fairness. Who says? Who started that rumor? Life is not always fair. Paul said that we see reality as if we were looking through a dark piece of glass. Things don’t always make sense. But God does. And the best advice anyone can give you was given by Paul. He writes, “I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.” There was too much to do, too much grace to live with, too much love of God to celebrate. Why should Paul spend all his time looking backward? Instead, he forced himself to look ahead. We must too. Why? Because if we are going to make it in this life, Paul says, “We must hold on to the progress we have already made.” Today, hang on to the progress and maturity God has blessed you with. Let go of the past; let it go and press on. Return to joy and live the life God has for you today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me press on and not get stuck in the past. Help me look forward to the life You have for me. Help me see Your love, mercy, grace, and peace. Help me pursue You and all that You have for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You See?

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you see? A lot of it depends on what you are looking through. Each of us comes to the Scriptures through different lenses. We see through our experiences, beliefs, senses, and personality. So, although scripture is true, we may have a skewed view of it. For example, in today’s verse, what do you believe? When you close your eyes, do you see God as a mighty one who will save you? Or do you have doubts about His ability or desire? Do you see God as rejoicing over you with gladness? Is He exulting over you with loud singing? Is He ecstatic in His love for you? Or do you struggle to feel like a recipient of that kind of attention from God? Finally, can you picture God quieting you with His love? Does the very thought of God bring peace to your heart? God’s word is true, but unless you read it and challenge your emotional thinking, you will not align your real beliefs with God’s. Today, ask God to help make His word clear to you and start to see what He has for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, as I read Your word, help me to see what You really want me to see and to believe it with all of my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love God

TODAY’S VERSE
I love the Lord because
Psalms 116:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the Lord because? Go ahead and fill in the blank. The Psalmist includes reasons like, “Saved me from death.” “Listens to me.” “Saves me.” “Is kind and good,” and “Gives help to those in need.” The Apostle John writes, “We love Him because He first loved us.” How about you? Why do you love the Lord? What can you praise God for? Worship is the expression of praise and gratitude for all that God is and all that He does. Today, let worship be a part of your day. Thank God for the many reasons you love Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I love You. I come now with a heart full of gratitude for all You are and do. Thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace in my life.
AMEN
