Empty Tomb

TODAY’S VERSE
“Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome went out and purchased burial spices so they could anoint Jesus’ body.”
Mark 16:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How you come to the tomb of Christ makes all the difference. Three days had passed since the death of Christ and some of the women thought of anointing the body of Jesus. For whatever reason they were not expecting Jesus to be risen from the dead. And neither were the disciples. How do we come to the tomb of Jesus? We come Sundays to church with our “spices” of worship, praising Him for His sacrificial death for us. But that is as far as we go. We come to the tomb looking for His body but all the while He is risen from the dead! We worship His sacrifice but deny His power. Paul wrote to the Ephesians about this very thing. He wrote, “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.” Today, ask God to add to your worship experience, the deep understanding of God’s incredible power, the power of the empty tomb.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, so many times I come to You as if You were still dead in the tomb. Yes, I believe in Your death, but deny the truth and power of the resurrection. Help me, Lord. Open my eyes that I may see You in Your resurrection power.
AMEN

Faith, Love and Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
“We think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
I Thessalonians 1:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do people think of when they think of our life’s achievements? There are many good things we can do with our time but not all are the best. We can make it a life goal to earn a lot of money. Another goal could be to become successful. Getting an education certainly can be one of the important things we set out to do. However, God puts a premium on some goals more than others. In today’s verse, Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica stressing the importance of their “faithful work, loving deeds and enduring hope”. God has called us to love the world like He does. This means being faithful in loving others no matter how hard it is. It means filling our time helping those around us all we can. Finally, loving the world means loving people, even when it is not easy. When there are not enough resources. When people reject the very love we offer them. Today, when people think of us, might they think about our faithful work, loving deeds and enduring hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord Jesus, help me live for You. Help me be faithful in my serving You. Help me be loving in all I do. Finally, give me the ability to endure because of my hope in You.
AMEN

Praise Him

TODAY’S VERSE
They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”
Revelation 5:13
Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD!
Psalms 150:1-2, 6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We often have so many pressing issues that it is easy to come to God and pour out our requests without saying anything of praise toward God. But when we forget to praise God, it is us who misses a blessing. It is ironic, we come to bless God with our praises and we are blessed in the process. Derek Prince once said, “If we only have ten minutes to pray, eight of them should be spent in praise!” There is so much we can praise God for today. Praise Him for His power. Praise Him for His glory. Praise Him for His provision. Praise Him for His love toward us. Praise Him for His death and resurrection. Praise Him for being our Almighty God. Who are we that God would allow us to even utter His name in praise, yet He does. He desires our praise and gratitude. Today, lift up your voice in praise to Him. Let everything that is in us, PRAISE THE LORD!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I have not praised You as I should. I become so occupied with this life that You have given me. So busy that I forget to stop and thank You for all You have done for me. So busy that I forget to praise You for who You are. Today, I come to say, “Thank-you!” Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. Thank You for all Your provision. Thank You for loving me and taking care of me. I stop now to praise You for Your majesty and power, for Your Holiness and unfailing love. I love You, Father God, and praise You today in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
AMEN

A Citizen of Heaven

TODAY’S VERSE

“You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; but now you have received God’s mercy.” I Peter 2:9-10

TODAY’S THOUGHT

I grew up without a nationality flavor to my life. Yes, Americans, but we weren’t strong on any particular ethnical heritage. On the other hand, my two best friends did. Steve Camarata was Italian and Ron Torigan was Armenian. I enjoyed learning about their heritage, foods and customs. I always loved their family gatherings and the sense of belonging to a common past and future. I have often felt that is what Christianity should be about. As Christians, if God is our father, then we are all related in Him and our citizenship is not just of this world, but of the one to come. Peter is talking in this passage to all of us who believe. All of us who call on the name of Christ for our salvation. We are a chosen people! But we are not to keep this truth to ourselves. It is God’s will that all people become part of His forever family. Because we are God’s chosen people, Royal Priests, a Holy Nation, Peter wrote, “You can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” It is marvelous that once we were outside God’s family, but then we saw the light, and now we belong to Him. Let’s share this great privilege with others so they, too, can enjoy being a citizen of Heaven.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, once I was without mercy and forgiveness in my life. Then You came along and called me into Your kingdom. Thank You for forgiving me of all my sins and making me Your child. Help me, even today, to share with others that do not know You, how they can come to know You as their personal Savior; how they, too, can enter Your forever Kingdom. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

This Day

TODAY’S VERSE
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Psalms 118:24, 29

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In most cases there is always a choice. Even if there is no other way out of a situation, you still can choose how you react to the inevitability of the event. Paul writes in Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” Here we have a whole range of Godly reactions to our situation. Add to that list faith, hope and prayer and how else can we react than what the Psalmist suggests, “This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”? I know how hard life can be. I know there are difficulties, horrific situations and sometimes a seemingly hopeless situation, but God has made this day. This day. Today is yours. What you do with it may have human limitations, may have the deck stacked against it, but know this, nothing, nothing, nothing can take you out of the love that God has for you and you can rejoice and be glad in this day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I have a choice. Today I choose You. I choose to rejoice and be glad in this day. Give me this day my daily bread. Lead me this day and keep me from falling to temptation. Dear Father, this is a day You have made; with Your strength, I will rejoice and be glad in it. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Stand On His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“He has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.”
Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you do with truth can make all the difference in the world. Truth is meant to be believed. But sacred truth, life changing truth, was also  meant to be acted on. You must choose, commit and continue in the truth that He loves you, forgives you and wants a wonderful relationship with you. Really knowing Christ’s love means you repent and rebound from sin in your life. The truth enables you to be in His presence praying and opening up to Him about your feelings. Today, begin to believe, really believe. Stand firmly on the truth that He loves you, forgives you and has made you His very own child.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, teach me to know, believe and live out the truth of Your love for me. Help the truth of your forgiveness and desire for my fellowship with You go deep into my heart. Help me stand firmly on the fact that, “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”
AMEN

To Do Today

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 5:16-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Not sure what to do today? Don’t know which direction to go in or where to start? In today’s passage Paul has given us a tremendous “to do” list. In fact, he is emphatic about our doing it. He uses the words “always”, “continually” and “in all circumstances.” Look at what he says we should do. “Be joyful always!” We think of joy as an emotion but, in fact, many times joy is an act of the will. We can choose to see the glass half full, the trip almost finished, hope right around the corner. We can choose hope and experience the presence of Christ in our life which will result in joy!  Paul then says, “Pray continually.” Prayer is more than an occasional ritual. It is the communication that comes out of a vibrant, authentic relationship. It is a conversation with the living God that goes on all day. God really is with us and we talk to Him continually. Finally Paul writes, “Give thanks in all circumstances.” Giving thanks is that expression of gratitude we give to God when we decide to give Him the glory for the good around us and trust Him with the bad. When things go right, we praise Him and when we are not sure about our circumstances and are upset, it is the voice of reason that says, “I thank you, God, that you are trustworthy.” Today add to your list of these important  things to do: be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, above all else today, I choose to be joyful. I also commit myself to pray throughout the day as things come to my mind. And Father, today I will deliberately be conscious of giving You thanks in all my circumstances. Help me to this end. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Anxiety Or Peace?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
I Peter 5:7
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As hard as we try, we can’t control everything. Circumstances happen, situations arise, consequences catch up with us. Anxiety or peace? Because of God, we do have a choice. God makes all the difference in the world! Peter tells us to cast all our cares on God. I love the imagery. You throw something light — you cast something heavy. We are to take our heavy load of worry and anxiety, use all our strength and faith and cast it onto Jesus. Let Him take it. Why? Because He cares for us. Why? Because He is able to keep us in perfect peace. Isaiah shared the secret to peace. He said to fix our thoughts on God and trust Him. What is it that you are worried about today? Cast it onto Jesus. Trust Him with it. Fix your thoughts on His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that I can cast all my cares on You. I thank You that You care for me and that You are able to keep me in perfect peace. Take my situation; I trust You with it. I choose to take my focus off my worries and fears and put it on You and Your love. Give me Your peace today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Don’t Miss The Party

TODAY’S VERSE
“His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against both heaven and you, and I am no longer worthy of being called your son. “But his father said to the servants, ‘Quick! Bring the finest robe in the house and put it on him. Get a ring for his finger and sandals for his feet. And kill the calf we have been fattening. We must celebrate with a feast, for this son of mine was dead and has now returned to life. He was lost, but now he is found.’ So the party began.”
Luke 15:21-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shame can keep us from the party. Here we have a beautiful story told by Jesus. It is about a young man who disgraces his family, leaves home and squanders all his inheritance. Finally, he has no friends, no family and no future. He is feeding pigs for a farmer and is tempted to eat the pig’s food. Full of shame, he decides to go home. He rehearses his remorse in the form of a speech but when his dad sees him way off in the distance, the father runs toward him. Shame kept the son from running. Shame kept him from an embrace. Shame gave a speech of defeat and disownment. But grace gave the son a robe. Grace put a ring on his finger. Grace put sandals on his feet. Grace gave him back his life again. Grace threw a party. The son could not deny his fathers grace. Don’t let shame rob you of your Father’s grace. Everyday God has a party just for you. Isn’t it time you went?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your grace. Thank You for rejoicing over me. Forgive me for not celebrating. Forgive me for being so wrapped up in myself. Today, I accept Your loving grace and forgiveness. Today, I come to the party You are having for me.
AMEN

The Victory Is His

TODAY’S VERSE
“Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”
I Samuel 14:6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We all have our wars to fight. Saul and his 600 men were trying to defeat the mighty Philistine army with thousands of soldiers. It was a bitter war. Saul and his 600 men were pinned down and trapped. Saul’s son, Jonathan, summoned his armor bearer and felt that they should go and fight the army. His famous battle cry was, “Perhaps the LORD will help us, for nothing can hinder the LORD. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” With faith, Jonathon and his armor bearer went to the Philistine outpost and took on twenty soldiers. Then something miraculous happened. The Philistines’ vast army in the camp became confused, panicked and afraid. God added an earthquake and all the army fled, being chased by the Israelites.  In the midst of difficult times, we need to be reminded that, “Nothing can hinder the Lord.” When the odds seem overwhelmingly against us, we must remember, “He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” Today, count on the Lord. Let Him help you in your own private conflict. He can win the battle!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my personal battles. You know how overwhelmed I can get. Lord, I know that nothing can hinder You. You can indeed give me personal victory whether I have many resources or only a few! Today I submit myself and my situation to You and ask that You would provide for me in miraculous ways. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
