Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
“We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.”
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How different would our life be if we really sought after and acquired the complete knowledge of God’s will for our life? But would that be enough? How many times have we known God’s will and yet sat helpless to do anything about it? Jesus said to love our enemies. How easy is that? Perhaps that is why Paul also prayed that God would give us spiritual wisdom and understanding. If a complete knowledge of God’s will is the destination, then spiritual wisdom and understanding is the road map. It is how we get there. Today, ask God for His wisdom and understanding regarding His will for your life. He will guide you and direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom and understanding regarding Your will for my life. I get easily distracted, confused and discouraged. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead my path today. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God gives me spiritual wisdom and understanding
How much better our lives would be if we spent time discerning God’s will for that day. Today, take a few moments of silence and ask God to speak to your heart about His will for you this day. Wait on Him. Let Him speak to your heart. Wait for His spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Doing Good

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. – Our people must learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others; then they will not be unproductive.”
Titus 3:8,14 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Doing good to others is very important to God. Paul uses strong language to communicate this point. He uses the words, “insist”, “devote” and “must” when talking about meeting the urgent needs of others. He writes that helping others will keep us from living an unproductive life. There are people all around us with urgent needs. Are we responding? Are we exemplifying the love of Christ to them? God wants us to learn to do good by meeting the urgent needs of others. Why not start today. Ask God to lead you to someone you can help.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to see the needs around me. Help me to view others through Your eyes of compassion. Lead me today to someone who needs my help. Give me the wisdom and strength to do all I can to meet their urgent need.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will help those in need
Today, see yourself before God. Sense His heart toward the needy. See His concern for those that are hurting. Who will go? Who will help take the love of God to those in need? Picture yourself raising your hand and saying to our Father, “I will go, send me. I will help.” Feel the pleasure that God has in sending you. Feel the love of God in your heart. See yourself helping those around you with care, concern and great empathy. Say out loud, “Yes Father, I will help those in need.”

Be A Light

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”
John 12:45-45
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”
Matthew 5:14-15

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is the purpose of light? It is to invade darkness. What have we done? We have built islands of light and hidden it from the darkness. We have hoarded the light. Might we hear God’s call – be GIVERS of the light! Rise up, use your spiritual gifts – give away the light – invade the world’s darkness.
Today, give away hope, peace, love, joy, and patience – GIVE AWAY THE LIGHT!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Father, Maker of Light, You have invaded my dark heart, but I am guilty of hoarding the light. Forgive me. Help me to invade the darkness and give away Your light. Might all around me light up! AMEN

Walk The Talk

TODAY’S VERSE
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
James 2:14-18

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a world in such need, but we are so busy we don’t see it. We are so inwardly focused, so concerned about our own welfare, we don’t stop to help others. That is not the way of Christ! Our churches should be making huge differences in our communities, but we don’t. When will this change? It can change TODAY if you and I decide to do something. Today, we can make a difference in someone’s life if we just open our eyes and hearts. May God help us to “walk our talk.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me see other peoples’ needs with Your eyes. Bring someone into my life today who needs help. Give me the mercy to stop, the wisdom to know what to do and then the love to do it. Thank You, God, for all You have done for me; help me do for others.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will follow Christ and help those in need
Knowing how to help people is difficult. But if we have the desire, God will help us figure out the how. So today, let God bring an image to your mind of someone who needs help. Stop and look at them. See them with the eyes of Christ. Let compassion well up inside of you. Ask them, “How can I help you?” Picture Christ helping you help them. Feel the joy that you and God share as the person is blessed by you actions.

Go And Do Likewise

TODAY’S VERSE
“The Lord gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry. The LORD frees the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind. The LORD lifts up those who are weighed down. The LORD loves the godly. The LORD protects the foreigners among us. He cares for the orphans and widows, but he frustrates the plans of the wicked.”
Psalms 146:7-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Is this the God we see in the Bible? Is this the God we pray to? Where do we find this God in our Christian lifestyle? The truth is, the God we worship in the Bible has always taken the poor, downtrodden and displaced people seriously. He expects us to do the same. We serve God when we serve others. Ask God to show you ways you can serve the needy. He cares. Do we?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I confess I need to be more compassionate. I need to be more proactive in helping the lonely, hurting and distraught. Please show me ways I can start to love those in need the way You do. Even today, lead me to someone I can help.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will care for those in need
Fill your mind with images of Jesus feeding the hungry. See Him talking to prisoners with love and acceptance. Hear His tone of compassion as He ministers to those who are emotionally distraught. See Him caring for those in need. Hear Him as He says to you, “Go and do the same.” Answer His call and say, I will care for those in need.

Be Not Afraid

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
Psalms 27:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes we just need to answer the question.  The Psalmist asks, “Who should I fear?” It could be phrased, “Why should I be afraid?” It would seem that the question is rhetorical. Why with God, we should not fear anything and yet many times fear blinds our eyes to the truth around us. I remember seeing a little boy who thought he was lost. He was in a crowd and start screaming. I was only a few feet away. He cried hysterically. I was going to help but I knew that his father was standing right next to him. The little child was so overcome with fear of abandonment that he cried so hard, he could not see his father right in front of him. It wasn’t until the dad picked him up and hugged him for a few moments that the boy took comfort in his father’s arms. Fear is like that. When we fear, it blocks out all other reality. Here is God, our light and salvation, and yet we act as if we are lost in utter darkness. We are in the stronghold of God’s love and yet fear blinds us from the reality of our salvation. Is this your reality? What is it that you fear? Rebuke it right now. Look into the eyes of Jesus. Let His light penetrate your mind and heart. Let Him be your stronghold. Hear Him say, “Arise and walk in peace.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I admit that I let my emotions overwhelm me. I do not allow myself to fully understand what it means that You are my light, salvation and stronghold. Forgive me, Lord. I want Your peace. I want Your joy. I want to know You more fully. Even today let me experience Your presence in my life. I ask You to make me fully aware of Your love and power. I give myself to You, Jesus; help me not be afraid.
AMEN

Our Real Purpose

TODAY’S VERSE
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Some people search a lifetime for a purpose. Why am I here? Where can I find meaning? We look for this bigger than life significance and we can’t find it. We search for something that will fill this hollow feeling inside. There is a craving in our soul that we can’t satisfy, a thirst that we cannot quench. It’s like the song says, “we are looking for love (purpose) in all the wrong places.” All the while the Bible gives a very fundamental answer to the secret of life satisfaction. Paul sums up our purpose in one simple verse. You and I will never be happy, never feel fulfilled until we figure out what Paul is saying. He says that you and I are the workmanship of God, His masterpiece! A specific, personally made, creation by almighty God Himself. More than that, we were created for this one simple thing, to do good works! That’s it. Our meaning, purpose, life satisfaction comes from living for God, from loving in His name, from doing good because He created us specifically to do good. What joy, what purpose, what meaning to know that we are hand picked agents of God’s good in this world. Do you believe this? Are you living this? If not, you can start today!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, help me to fully understand what it means to be Your workmanship, created for good works. Help me to comprehend that You really know me, love me deeply and have specifically called me to be Your representative in this world. Thank You for such a glorious calling. Help me today to do Your good works which You prepared me to do before I was even born. You are my creator, I am Your servant. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Do You Want Me To Do?

TODAY’S VERSE
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus cared for the poor.  Look at what Matthew writes, “He went through all the towns and villages teaching, preaching and healing every disease and sickness.” But it wasn’t enough. Jesus knew His time was ending. He saw the need of His creation and He cried out that we would appeal to the Father to send more people to do the same work. Viv Grigg in his book Companion to the Poor has said it better than anyone I have ever read, “There is a drum-beat beating in my head day after day, a beat that impels me forward into long hours of discipline and constant work. It is the cry of those saved from their sins, only to be entangled again by that same sin – by the tentacles of their poverty, drawing them down, down, down till they are totally lost to this earth. We must work and direct our undivided energy and unflagging zeal to provide economic stability for these, our brothers and sisters in Christ. We must avoid being so busy working among the slum people that we forget to deal with the problems of the slums themselves. The Biblical response to poverty caused by sin is to preach the gospel to the sinner, but the Biblical response to sin caused by poverty is to destroy the curse of poverty.” Might we do both! Jesus did.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I see Your compassion and I am humbled. Forgive me; I have not cared like I should. I haven’t been that involved in helping those in need. I want to make a difference but how? What do You want me to do? Speak to me; show me, Lord. Even today, help me see the need around me through Your eyes. Then help me act on what You show me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lord, Reveal Yourself To Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.”
Psalms 103:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the fact that God reveals Himself to us. He revealed His love to Moses and the children of Israel. Paul writes to the Church, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.” God revealed His love to David. Look at what he writes, “He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things. He is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. His unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.” Today, might your heart be ready to receive all that God wants to reveal to you. May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, reveal Your love to me. Help me know the heights and depths of Your compassion. Help me grasp the greatness of Your mercy and forgiveness. Move in my heart I pray and help me know You more.
AMEN

No Perfect People Allowed

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
I Timothy 1:15 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“No Perfect People Allowed”. I first heard this phrase in a message by John Burke, Pastor of Gateway Church in Texas. I find it appealing because it allows us the freedom to be who we are in Christ. It is like the phrase, “Christians aren’t perfect, they are forgiven.” Yet why is it we come to church and pretend that everything is okay and never seek out the help we need? Could it be due to the fact that when someone does something wrong ,they so often end up being ostracized from the rest of the fellowship? We need to work on getting rid of the stigma of falling down in our Christian walk and learn to help each other back up. People are looking for a Christianity where they can belong. Where they can be authentic and real with their life story. Paul tells us to “bear one another’s burdens,” not to pretend we don’t have any. Paul starts his spiritual journey admitting that he is the “chief of all sinners.” As he goes through his journey, he changes focus to who Christ is and what He does with sin. Christ convicts, corrects, forgives, gives grace and helps us get up after a fall and try again. We are not perfect, but thank God, He has a perfect plan. Begin today, with all your struggles and imperfections, to live for Him and rejoice in His unconditional love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I am tired of trying to be perfect. I cannot do it. Instead, I humbly accept your grace and forgiveness. Thank you, Lord, for accepting me with all my imperfections. In Jesus’ name. AMEN
