Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am the LORD your God. – But you have not listened to me.”
Judges 6:10 (NLT)

“And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, your servant is listening.’”
I Samuel 3:10 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“You have not listened to me.” You would think if God spoke, people would listen and obey. But do we? How many times have we turned our back on what His word has to say? How many times have we ignored the conviction of the Holy Spirit? How many times have we bent the meaning of the Scriptures into our own will? There is a dedication and discipline needed in listening to God. There is a passion tempered with conviction that results in obeying what we hear. Part of listening is repenting when we know we have ignored Him. Part of listening is remembering the past and trusting Him with the present. The most important part of listening is well “listening.” Spending time with God, reading His word and meditating on what He has to say is the best way to keep our hearts ready to listen to Him. Might our prayer be like that of Samuel, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for speaking to me so many times. Forgive me for the times I did not listen. Help me to seek Your wisdom. Help me to read Your word and to meditate on it. Most of all, might the prayer of my heart be, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”
AMEN

He Will Answer

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.”
Psalms 17:6-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things only God can do. That is why we need to come to Him. When we do, we need to put our faith in His ability to answer our prayer. In his book, “Living From The Heart”, Dr. James Wilder elaborates, “God is the only one who can ultimately save us, sanctify us and deliver us from evil. –  When we let God do His work, things happen rather perfectly. But when we presumptuously take over His territory, things tend to crumble all so quickly.” Today, like David, may we pray to God because we know He will answer. If we do, He will show us “His unfailing love in wonderful ways.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. You have shown me it is so many ways. Today, I bring you my needs and all my cares. I come to You because I know You will answer. You grace is amazing, Your love never ending, Your power all sufficient.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God hears my prayers
Visualize God as He listens to your prayers. See His attentive face as you share with Him. Sense His deep care and concern. Feel deep in your heart that He is listening and will answer you. Meditate on His unfailing love for you. Affirm that, “God hears my prayers.”

Encourage Others

TODAY’S VERSE
“Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.”
Proverbs 12:25 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every day is full of choices. Over and over again we find ourselves at a fork in the road. Choices between faith or doubt; forgiveness or anger; right or wrong; yes or no; worry or trust. For many worry is their daily choice. Whether it is financial, relational or situational, they have dug themselves into a pit and can’t seem to get out. Life is lonely in the pit. Every day they try to get out but no one stops to help. That is what God has called you and I to do. Today’s passage says, “Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.” You and I have been charged to be an encourager. We too find ourselves at a fork in the road. We can ignore someone else’s pain or we can help them. We can stay busy minding our own business or we can stop to comfort someone else. We can judge, blame, condemn others for getting themselves in a mess or we can extend a hand. We can go our own way or we can encourage them both in word and action. Today commit yourself to be an encourager. Ask God to bring someone into your life you can minister to. As God has encouraged you, might you encourage others.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to encourage other people. Help me to be kind, considerate and to treat others in the way I want to be treated. Today might I speak Your grace and love into other people that they may truly find the encouragement that they need.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will encourage others
Today visualize yourself helping those that come you way. See yourself encouraging them. Feel their relief as you empathize and listen to their situation. Sense God’s pleasure as you share His love with those who need your support.

Spiritual Victory

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith.”
I Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a spiritual reality that we need to be aware of. Peter warns us that we are in a spiritual battle and that “the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” The good news is that God has given us everything for the victory. He has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us, His word to teach us and His presence to protect us. As a result we can obey Peter when he tells us to be self-controlled and alert, to resist Satan standing firm in the faith. James tells us that if we “resist the devil”, the devil will flee from us. If we choose to ignore the spiritual battle we are in, it will only result in spiritual turmoil in our life. So, today let us resist the lies of Satan, stand firm in our faith in God and be victorious.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that the Spiritual battle we are in has already been won. Thank You that You have provided all I need for the victory. Help me today to stand firm on Your promises, to be self-controlled and alert and to resist the schemes of Satan.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God has given me spiritual victory
Today mediate on God giving you victory in your spiritual battle. See yourself dressed in the armor of God. You have your helmet of salvation protecting your head. You have your body covered with your armored suit. You are holding your shield in front of you and your sword is in the other hand. You are in a battle but you know you are not alone. Jesus is there with you and He is giving you His supernatural strength. He is empowering you so you are standing strong and are resisting the enemy. You are focused and under the control of the Holy Spirit. Today you know that God is in you and He has given you Spiritual victory.

False God

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will not surely die,’ the serpent said to the woman. ‘For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
Genesis 3:4-5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every since Adam and Eve, mankind has been tempted to think that they could become a “god”. However, David Benner in his book, “The Gift Of Being Yourself” makes a very interesting observation. He points out that in the Garden of Eden, it was not the act of trying to be like God that was a sin, it was the act of thinking they could be like God, without God. Yes we are commanded to be like Christ. We are to emulate the characteristics of God such as love, mercy and justice. But we are never told that we can do that without the help of God and His Holy Spirit. David Benner writes, “Adam and Eve wanted to be God without God, likeness that was based on independence rather than surrender. – What we get when we choose a way of being that is separate from God is the life of the false self. – The false self is the tragic result of trying to steal something from God that we did not have to steal. Had we dared to trust God’s goodness, we would have discovered that everything we could ever most deeply long for would be ours in God. Trying to gain more than the everything God offers, we end up with less than nothing. Rejecting God, we end up with a nest of lies and illusions. Displacing God, we become a god unto our self. We become a false self.” I am so glad Jesus came. He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He came so we could know God. It is His truth, His life that enables us to be more like Him. Today, examine yourself. Are you following Christ and letting Him influence who you are, or are you busy creating your own life apart from God?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for all the times I have tried to set myself us as my own God. Today, I ask You to speak to my heart and help me get back on track with You. Guide me in everything I do so I will become the kind of person You want me to be. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am valued by God
Picture you value and goodness in a sealed bottle. You are exactly what God wants you to be. He has created you, saved you and leads you daily by His Holy Spirit. He loves you unconditionally. But then envision where others have tried to give you a bottle that is empty of value. You see it and feel you need to perform, to connive, to do whatever it takes to refill the bottle with value. But nothing you do is enough. Everyday you wake up the bottle is empty again. Now picture Jesus taking the broken bottle and giving you back your original bottle that was stolen. You see God’s bottle and it is full. See how your worth and value is all full just the way God created you. Now you can affirm. “I am valued by God.”

Believe The Truth

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me.”
Psalms 40:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Oh the lies that we believe. Those insidious thoughts that drive us crazy. Our internal dialog so often leads us into unnecessary grief and pain. William Backus in his book, “Learning to Tell Myself The Truth” writes, “You can know the truth somewhere in your brain’s storage cells, but not know the truth in your internal monologue. All too often we make ourselves miserable and keep ourselves miserable by listening to a nonstop stream of inner nonsense – even when we know very well that the nonsense runs counter to divine truth.” In today’s passage, the Psalmist is crying out to the Lord for His mercy. He is asking God to protect him with His love and truth. It is knowing the truth that keeps us from all the madness. Martin Luther wrote, “We pray, ‘Lead us not into temptation’, so that God would guard and keep us lest the world, our flesh and the devil lead us into misbelief, despair and other great shame and vice.” Today might we let truth guide us. Might we challenge our negative thinking and any lies that would temp us from believing in the love and mercy that God has for us. May His love and truth protect us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, do not withhold Your mercy from me. Please help me to trust in Your love and believe the truth you have given me in Your word.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
The truth sets me free
Discernment, wisdom, knowledge, these are all related to knowing the truth. They are all gifts from God. Today, meditate on each. Ask God for discernment. Sense what it would be like to be discerning in difficult situations. Picture God giving you the wisdom you need to solve mysteries and know what truth is in complex situations. As you meditate on knowledge, ask God for the knowledge you need to distinguish what is right and wrong. See God coming to your aid through the knowledge that comes from communing with the Holy Spirit and knowing His word. Feel yourself thirsting for truth, searching for it and then receiving it. Praise God and affirm, “The truth sets me free.”

Wisdom And Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.”
Colossians 1:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an exciting prospect. Paul was asking God to fill the Colossians with the “knowledge of His will”. But it wasn’t some instantaneous filling. It wasn’t an “insight” pulled out of thin air. Paul said that the knowledge of God’s will was the result of spiritual wisdom and understanding. What do you wonder about? What about your future has you stymied? What direction are you in need of? You could ask God to simply give you His will, but according to this passage you really need to ask God to impart to you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Why? Because God’s will is not that simple. Most times it is not a single answer that we need. Rather it is a series of answers. “Go this way” will not suffice. It is more like a long distant trip. You have to navigate across many highways making many decisions about direction along the way. God’s wisdom and understanding give us the ability to discern each step. Today ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will by giving you all the spiritual wisdom and understanding you need. You can begin to pursue that wisdom and understanding through, prayer, meditation and studying the word of God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father thank You that You can make Your will abundantly clear to me through spiritual wisdom and understanding. Help me today as I meditate, pray and read Your word to get all the wisdom and understanding that I need.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God Directs My Path
Visualize yourself at the beginning of a long journey. As you begin to impart on this journey picture yourself packing your suitcase. You look around and see a large bag of Spiritual Understanding. Picture yourself taking the bag and putting it in your suitcase. Feel the sense of relief as you know that you are taking Spiritual Understanding with you. Next see the box of Wisdom on the floor. You bend over, pick it up and put it in the suitcase. “Ahhh”. You breath a sigh of relief as you know you have wisdom for the journey. Bow before God and commit your life journey to Him. Ask Him to help you use Spiritual wisdom and understanding to know and to do His will. Affirm with a deep joy that God will direct your path.

All Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever really sought after something? Really longed to find it? When it is important to us, it is amazing to see how serious we can get. This is how God wants us to seek after Him. He spoke through the Prophet Jeremiah, admonishing us that the only way we would really find Him was when we seek Him with our whole heart. Notice, Jeremiah did not say, “when you seek him with your whole intellect.” It is not knowing “about” God; it is about “knowing God” in a deep and intimate way. God is saying that if you would get passionate about Him, then you will begin to find Him. How intent are you on knowing God? Begin today by seeking Him with your whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today. I really do want to know You. I want to have a deep intimate relationship with You. Help me discipline myself to take the time to know You. Take the time to hear You. Take the time to tell You my thoughts, hopes and dreams. To share with You my fears, apprehensions and doubts. As I seek You this way, that is with all my heart, I pray that You would reveal more and more of Yourself to me.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I seek to know God with all my heart
Today start by telling God that you want to know Him with all your heart. Meditate on what that means. Ask God to reveal Himself to you in such a way that you can emotionally respond to Him. Ask Him to help you to have a heart felt love for Him. And then wait. Just wait for His love to come to you. Wait for Him. Visualize yourself in His presence and sense His love for you. Let His love for you fill your whole heart.

Real Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
“If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.- But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.”
James 3:13, 17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We usually think of wisdom in terms of knowledge or the ability to solve a mystery. However James describes something much more comprehensive. It is “relational” knowledge. The wisdom that God desires includes morality, prudence, humility, gentleness, love, mercy and good deeds. It seems that God is more interested in how we apply what we know, especially in the way that we relate to others. You can be intellectually right, yet morally wrong in the way you use your knowledge. To be right, yet arrogant, unloving and proud is not real wisdom. Which is more wise, to know how to solve someone’s problem or to help them solve their problem? Solomon, was King David’s son. God asked Solomon what would he want if he could have anything? Solomon told God that he would want wisdom. God gave it to him. It was Solomon, certainly the wisest man in his day, who challenges us in Proverbs three different times, that when we get wisdom to make sure we also get understanding. Might God grant us the understanding that real wisdom is, “peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You, that when I ask for wisdom, You give me so much more. With wisdom you also give me understanding. Help me use your wisdom to help others. With the knowledge You give me, help me to be gentle, humble, loving and merciful.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God’s wisdom helps me to be gentle, humble, loving and merciful
Visualize yourself being in different circumstances where you need wisdom. See yourself giving the right answers and more importantly the right actions. Sense the joy you get from being Godly in your response to your situations. Feel how gratifying it is to to do the right, good and loving thing. Today, dedicate your life to Christ and affirm that His wisdom will help you be gentle, humble, loving and merciful.

Who Is Jesus?

TODAY’S VERSE
“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.’”
Matthew 16:13-16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you really believe about Jesus? That is the real question. You can have all sorts of “head knowledge”, you can quote the creeds and catechisms, but if you don’t have that everyday “I’m going to trust You because I know You love me” kind of knowledge, you really don’t know who Christ really is. There were all kinds of speculation about the nature of Jesus. Some thought He was a prophet, others thought He was John the Baptist or Elijah, but Peter knew who Jesus really was. Peter answered without hesitation and said that Jesus was indeed the Christ the son of the living God. Peter had a complete view of who Christ was. Do you? Julian of Norwich wrote, “Some of us believe that God is almighty and can do everything; and that he is all wise and may do everything; but that He is all love and will do everything – there we draw back.” You see, it is one thing to believe God can do everything, another to believe He may, but it is a whole other level of knowledge to say that God loves me and will do everything. Today, make your knowledge complete. Trust in Him with your whole heart. Believe in His deep love for you with faith, trusting Him in all things.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You are almighty and can do everything. I praise You for the fact that You are all wise and may do all things. But most of all Father, I worship You today, believing that You love me unconditionally and will do all things according to that love.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
Christ is the Son of the living God
Today picture Jesus in His Full Deity. Visualize Him as God. Observe yourself before Him and see Him in all His power. Sense that with that power is an incredible love. As you see Him, recognize that He is more than a man, more than a prophet, more than a good moral teacher. Look and wait until you see and sense deep in your heart that He is God manifested in human form. Let the deity of Christ fill your heart and mind.
