New Habits of Praise

TODAY’S VERSE
“It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening.”
Psalms 92:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a saying, “There are no atheists in foxholes.” It speaks to the nature of man in that we tend to cry out to God when we are in dire need. This isn’t just true for the unbeliever. Many who claim the name of Christ, never spend time talking to God unless they are in trouble. The atheist says he doesn’t believe in God, but what is our excuse? For some it is a shallow knowledge of God without a deep inward reality. However, for others it is good intentions gone astray. Busyness, lack of priority or poor habits have left our soul barren and dry. Today’s verse has the answer. The Psalmist says, “It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High.” We need to create these new habits and attitudes. When we begin to give thanks to God, when we begin to fill our life with worship, we will begin to foster an “attitude of gratitude” for all God has done for us. This inward joy will bring a new energy to our Spirit and create a hunger for more. But how do we develop this gratitude into a habit? The author of today’s Psalm writes, “It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening.” As we create a habit of proclaiming God’s love for us in the beginning of the day, and remembering all He has done when the day is done, it will keep our heart ever drawn to Him. It is in this daily journey with God that we will find the peace, joy and love that we have always wanted.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for not working harder on our relationship. I have not pursued You like I should have. I have not made You the priority that You should be in my life. Today, help me create new daily habits of praise and worship. Help me proclaim Your love every morning and Your faithfulness in the evening.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I daily proclaim God’s love and faithfulness in my life
Today visualize yourself doing what the Palmist said. See yourself coming before God and proclaiming His unfailing love in the morning, and His faithfulness in the evening. Sense His presence and feel His peace come over you as you bow before Him in prayer and adoration.
Feel the joy and peace overtake you as you proclaim His love and faithfulness in your life.

Know Love, Know God

TODAY’S VERSE
“While knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.”
I Corinthians 8:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live in a society where knowledge is worshipped. Our whole western culture put a premium on left brain logic and knowledge. We get report cards that tell how good we are at learning. In the church we have our own reverence for knowledge. We want to know all about God. We want to “know” the word. And although the scriptures ask us to “correctly handle the word of truth” the first part of that same verse says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed.” Knowing God’s word is important, but what is it without love? Paul says, “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” So today, make up your mind to “know” God not just “know about” God. And if you are really going to know God, then you must “know” love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You more. But I want to know You by knowing and living a life of love. Help me to this end I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will live a life of love
In today’s meditation, see God in His true form. See Him as love. Meditate on what pure love would be like. See yourself as the focus of His love. And then see God commissioning you to be His disciple of this same kind of love. Picture yourself growing in your experience and knowledge of God’s love. Today affirm, “I will live a life of love.”

Everything You Need To Do His Will

TODAY’S VERSE
“May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.”
Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Isn’t it great that you do not have the live the Christian life by yourself? Isn’t it exciting that God Himself is invested in you and your success in your Christian experience? Imagine a rich business person calling you and saying that they are giving you a business. Then they say, “Besides the business, I am going to give you all the staff, computers, business equipment and customers you need to be successful.” You would hang up the phone, jump up and down and then tell everyone you know. How much more exciting is it, that God has given you a Holy and eternal mission? More than that, God says that He is going to produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him! God says He will equip you, not with a few things, but with ALL you need for doing His will! So today you can go about your day knowing that everything you need in order to do God’s will is already provided. You can know that God is more interested in producing every good thing that is pleasing to Him in your life than you are. Rejoice, God is committed to equipping you with everything you need for doing His will. Truly, all glory goes to Him forever and ever!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your vital interest in me. Thank you for equipping me with everything I need for doing Your will. Please produce in me every good thing that is pleasing to You. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God has given me everything I need to do His will
Imagine God calling you into His presence. He sits you down and tells you that He has created you for a special mission on earth. And then He brings you to a great hall filled with everything you will ever need to be successful in your mission. “Here”, He says. “Here is everything you will need for your mission. Go and do my will and I will be with you.” Stunned, you hardly know how to take it all in, but you heart is filled with love and adoration and you rise to go on your mission for Him saying, “God has given me everything I need to do His will!”

Don’t Resist

TODAY’S VERSE
“Must you forever resist the Holy Spirit?”
Acts 7:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is a sad reality. As much as God loves us and as much as we know we need God in our life we so often live as if God wasn’t even in the equation. A conviction comes and we ignore it. An impulse to do the right thing and we self sabotage. If we are not careful we too will be guilty of resisting the Holy Spirit. So what can we do? We need to repent and then we need to reprioritize. We can begin to make time for reading the scriptures. The Holy Spirit will speak to us through its pages. We can devekop a practice to pray about those things that are on our mind. In prayer the Holy Spirit will guide us and commune with our heart. We can set aside time for quietness and in the few moments we spend, the Holy Spirit will whisper assurances of His love and comfort to our heart. Our Holy God’s Spirit resides in us. Let us rejoice in this fact and humble our hearts to love and obey Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, forgive me for the times I have resisted Your Spirit’s voice. The times I have stubbornly gone my own way. I repent. Help me to renew Your fellowship. Help me to receive Your comfort and hear Your voice of reason and instruction. Might I live for You I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit
It is easy to wander far from God. Today, visualize yourself coming back to Him. Sense the presence of the Holy Spirit and welcome it. See yourself full of joy and peace as you fellowship with the Holy Spirit and its leadings. See yourself devout, living with the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, in your life. Say each fruit of the Spirit out loud and as you do, cry out, “Lord I want it, I want more of it.”

Listen

TODAY’S VERSE
“He inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The LORD answered him.”
I Samuel 23:2 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to read this passage and not get the significance of the spiritual moment. You see the truth is we worship the true and living God who wants to interact with us. Christianity is more than a religion it is also mystical relationship with God. The Philistines were threatening the town that David was in and his men wondered if they should fight. David knew the odds were not in their favor but wanted to know what God thought about it. So what did he do? He asked God. And God answered him. We talk about prayer and so we talk to God, but we don’t spend much time listening. God speaks through His word. God speaks through our conscience. God speaks through Godly friends and leaders and God speaks through His Holy Spirit. God speaks but are we in the habit of listening?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need to hear Your voice. There is so much I need to know from You. Please help me listen. Help me hear what you desire to say to me so I will follow Your will for my life. Today I come and pray with Samuel of old, “Speak Lord for Your servant hears you.”
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I listen to God
Quiet your heart and when you are ready ask God to make His presence known to you. Sit before God and soak in His presence. Ask Him to help you hear His voice. Visualize yourself talking to God and picture Him talking to you. Sense what it would be like. Hear it, feel it. Sense the reality of God sharing with you in real and personal ways. When done, pray to God, “Lord I come and desire to listen to Your voice. Help me hear you.”

Focused Attention

TODAY’S VERSE
“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What we think can dictate the way we feel. Then our feelings effect our thinking and so the spiral goes. So much of what we think at a rudiment level is false. Often what we worry about, the self talk we have, how we view ourself, our core beliefs about life, are based on lies, half-truths or erroneous assumptions. They enter our minds in stealth mode and before we know it, we are feeling down. These lies go unchallenged and cause all sorts of havoc in our lives. Paul says that there is a better way. He says to pray. Talk to God about our thoughts, expose them to the light of the Holy Spirit. He is able to guard our hearts and minds. William Backus in his book, “Learning To Tell Myself The Truth” shares “Feelings follow your thoughts. Untruthful, negative thoughts lead to unpleasant feelings of anxiety, depression or frustration, while truthful, positive thoughts create corresponding pleasant and upbeat feelings.—Your feelings can serve as an alarm to remind you to question your thoughts and beliefs. Are they negative or positive? Are they true or false? Once you’ve begun to identify the underlying thoughts and beliefs, you are on your way to healing, wholeness, and happiness.” Today begin to follow Paul’s advice. When negative feelings come, “fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my inner person. You hear my self talk better than I do. By the power of the Holy Spirit please alert me to my negative thinking and help me fix my thoughts on what is true. Help me think with my faith in Your love and power, not with my feelings. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I fix my thoughts on what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely and admirable
The way we correct our thinking is through focus. Focused attention on what we feel and what we are thinking. Focus on what God says in His word. Focus on the presence of God and His love for us. Today, spend a few minutes focusing on today’s affirmation. Repeat it three times slowly, thinking of each word. Let your mind focus on what it means to you. Focus on God’s presence and His help in keeping you focused. Today shut out the interference and practice focused attention.

Truth

TODAY’S VERSE
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.”
Ephesians 6:10-14 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is interesting that when God chose to warn us about Spiritual Warfare and described the armor of God, the first piece He told us of was the “belt of truth.” Truth is crucial to having spiritual victory. Jesus said, “”If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” But today, if we are not careful, we will lose the ability to know the truth. More and more information is being dumped on us all the time. It is impossible to keep up with all the new information. With the increase in media and the ability to make celebrities, we find ourselves choosing truth because of the way it is presented or who is presenting it. It is like choosing a sports team or favorite musician. We have become spectators of the truth. We choose truth without a real allegiance. In fact, many times we decide what we want to believe and then build a case to prove it. We have lost the reverence for truth. Worse, it is a “I can believe two opposites are true at the same time.” So when I am in church, I will sing like I truly believe (And I may truly believe) but on Monday I live at work as if God never existed at all. I deny Christ as any authority in my life. Today we must recommit ourselves to truth. We must dig into the word of God, ask God to speak to us and hold on to the truth as if our lives depended on it. Let us put on the armor of God and stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around our waist.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know I am in a spiritual battle and need to know, believe and live the truth. Help guide me be strong in Your mighty power as I pray, meditate and follow Your lead.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
Truth sets me free
Picture a time when you have been tempted to believe and live a lie. Sense the denial, the deceit and the guilt of living that way. As you feel the weight of that moment, picture Jesus coming to you offering you the truth. Feel hope entering your body, sense the relief as you realize that the truth is going to set you free from the bondage you were in. See yourself accept the truth from Jesus and as you do sense the love in which He gives it to you and embrace the moment. Take a deep breath and feel truth go deep into your soul. Affirm in your heart, “God’s truth sets me free!”

Conscious Of God’s Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!”
Psalms 116:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I can only think of one thing greater than living in God’s presence. That is being “aware” that I am living in His presence! Have you ever been with someone and they acted as if you were not even there? You were with them but they were not with you. How often do we go through the day as if God did not even exist? Full of self sufficiency, we make our plans and schedules and live out our days without any conscious need for His presence. Oh, the occasional prayer, perhaps a devotional reading and even Christian music on the radio, but really walking in His presence?  How often, when we pray we say, “Lord we come into your presence” as if His presence was somewhere outside of our realm of daily existence? Now, perhaps what we really meant was, “Lord I am making a deliberate choice to focus on your presence.” But how much better yet, if we just stay focused on God and simply converse with Him? Walking in His presence means He is with us and we know it. It means we respond to Him all the time. Today, stop and realize He is with you right now. You are in His presence and He desires to have a relationship with you throughout the day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to realize that I am always in Your presence. Help me, through the power of the Holy Spirit commune with You and fellowship with you throughout this day. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am conscious of God’s presence in my life
Quiet your heart and meditate on a peaceful place. Perhaps it is somewhere you have been, something you have seen or imagine. It is a peaceful place and you are in it. As you observe yourself in this peaceful place, ask God to reveal Himself to you. Sense God’s presence. Now visualize yourself going throughout your day, conscious of God being with you. See him there with you and you are relating to Him. Sense yourself being more and more conscious of His real and abiding presence as you picture yourself living throughout the day. Finish by affirming, “I am conscious of God’s presence in my life.”

He Leads The Way

TODAY’S VERSE
“Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.”
Psalms 77:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life’s pathways are not always smooth. There are many times when the terrain is rough at best. What do we do then? Thank God He is the one who promised to get us through to the other side. In today’s passage we see that God was able to lead the Israelites through what seemed to be an impossible pathway. The Jews had left Egypt and were heading to the promised land when they ran smack into the Red Sea. I am sure that many of the people wondered what kind of path God had led them on. But the scriptures are clear; God had led them on a road that went through the Red Sea, a path that ran through the mighty waters. It was a road no one but God knew was there. He offers the same to us. He is the great shepherd. He is the one who can make our crooked paths straight. He is the one who turned the Red Sea into dry ground. So, what terrain are you on? What is your path like? Is it steep, full of sharp rocks, high cliffs and loose footing? Does it take you through dark forests and thorny underbrush? There was a song we sung as little children that you can take comfort in. It said, “My God knows the way through the wilderness. All I have to do is follow.” Today, choose to trust God. Follow Him. He has a path you know nothing about. He is the Great Shepherd, He will get you home.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know the journey I am on. You know the path I am following. Please guide me, Lord. Help me know which way to go. You are the Great Shepherd, be my shepherd today I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God will guide my path
It is easy to get overwhelmed with the twists and turns of life so today visualize yourself on a dark, winding road. You are not sure which way to go, but then a light appears and you sense it is God. Take a deep breath, relax and let God guide you on the path. Feel your worry dissipate as put your trust in Him. Feel the relaxation go deep into you being. God is here, He is in control, He will guide your path. Feel the joy and comfort of the Lord fill your heart as you put your trust in Him.

Heart Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
“My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!”
Psalms 108:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a difference between “my head being confident” and “my heart being confident.” This is where faith and relationship come in. We read scriptures with our head, but we meditate with our heart. We pray “nice” prayers with our head, but we “cry out to God” with our heart. We “tell” someone about the gospel with our head, but we love them and plead for their soul with our heart. And we know the “reasons for confidence” in God with our head, but we “experience confidence” in God with our heart. David knew this kind of confidence in God through his experiential faith. He had a relationship with the true and living God that resulted in true worship and adoration with all his heart. Today, ask God to reveal Himself to you in real and experiential ways. Let your confidence travel the twelve inches from your head to your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your presence in my life. Help me to know You better. Help me to be confident in Your love for me, not just in my head, but in my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
My heart is confident in God
Today visualize yourself sitting in your home. You are alone sitting quietly in peace. There is a knock at your front door. You walk to the door and open it and there is Jesus. He is at your door and you can see by the look on His face, and by the exuberance in His body language, that He is happy to see you. He really wants to spend time with you. You can sense a deep connection. It is obvious to you that He loves you. You can feel a wonderful confidence in the love of God begin to fill your heart.
