Overcoming Temptation

TODAY’S VERSE
No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
I Corinthians 10:13 (TMB)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life is hard. It is easy to be tempted to take the easy way out. Easy to complain. Easy to give up. But what a slippery slope we walk on. Lying, cheating, substances, gambling. These are the temptations we hear about the most. But what about the temptation to hate, become depressed or ungrateful? You see, we are all tempted to behave in a way we shouldn’t. What’s your temptation? Do you feel hopeless to overcome? Are you in total denial? Whatever your temptations are today, God knows and is waiting for you to come to Him for help. “He will never let you be pushed past your limit; He will always be there to help you come through.” Call on Him today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, You know the temptations I face. I have been in such denial. I have felt so helpless at times. I can’t do this life without You. I need Your help. Thank You for promising that You will always be there to help me come through. Oh my Heavenly Father, I wait on You to help me. Help me today. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ Your son, my Savior. AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
Christ helps me overcome temptation
Feel yourself in the clutches of a temptation. It is upon you. You feel powerless to overcome. But all of a sudden there is a new sensation. It is the presence of God. He has come to set you free. His Holy Spirit is present and wells up inside of you. Courage and strength burst from your heart and you say, “No!” You feel the power of God and again say, “No! Be gone!” You see Christ next to you, praying, fighting your fight. He puts His arm around you and helps you overcome. You shout out loud, “Christ helps me overcome temptation. Praise His name!”

Spiritual Wisdom and Understanding

TODAY’S VERSE
“We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.”
Colossians 1:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How different would our life be if we really sought after and acquired the complete knowledge of God’s will for our life? But would that be enough? How many times have we known God’s will and yet sat helpless to do anything about it? Jesus said to love our enemies. How easy is that? Perhaps that is why Paul also prayed that God would give us spiritual wisdom and understanding. If a complete knowledge of God’s will is the destination, then spiritual wisdom and understanding is the road map. It is how we get there. Today, ask God for His wisdom and understanding regarding His will for your life. He will guide you and direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your wisdom and understanding regarding Your will for my life. I get easily distracted, confused and discouraged. Fill me with Your Spirit and lead my path today. I pray in Jesus’ name.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God gives me spiritual wisdom and understanding
How much better our lives would be if we spent time discerning God’s will for that day. Today, take a few moments of silence and ask God to speak to your heart about His will for you this day. Wait on Him. Let Him speak to your heart. Wait for His spiritual wisdom and understanding.

His Word

TODAY’S VERSE
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How important is it for you and I to spend time with God in His word? It is imperative! It is a must. If we are going to live the kind of life God wants us to, then we must spend time listening to what God has to say about it. Everything we do is based on the various beliefs, perceptions, and assumptions we have. Many of these were shaped in childhood. Others are the result of the knowledge and experience we pick up as adults. If we are going to shape our thinking and behavior so that it aligns with His will for us, we must let His word penetrate deep into our heart and make all the necessary changes it needs to. The author of Hebrews compares the word of God to a sharp, double edged sword. Just like a sword can cut deep into our flesh and bone, so God’s word cuts to the thoughts and attitudes that we hide deep in our heart. God then can use His word to judge and correct those core beliefs that guide the way we live. Habits, addictions, compulsive behavior, negative emotions can all change, if we let His living and active word work in our heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please use Your word to mold me, change me and make me more like You. Cut to my inner thoughts and beliefs. Judge them, correct them and align them with Yours. In Jesus Name.

God’s Word Changes Me
Meditate on today’s verse. Visualize God’s word as living and active changing your thoughts and emotions. Sense God sharing with you, moving in your heart. See His joy as He imparts His word to you penetrating deep into your soul and changing your attitudes.

Your Recipe For Life

TODAY’S VERSE
“Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.”
II Peter 1:5-7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
A salsa is only as good as its ingredients. Avocado, diced tomatoes, onion, the list of ingredients goes on. Mixing everything together, gathering chips, it was time to taste this masterpiece. As I took my first bite, I was dumbfounded as to how bland the taste was. Knowing the person who prepared the dish, I knew it had to be an error. Sure enough, upon reviewing the recipe, salt and lime juice were missing from the experience. What a difference two ingredients can make. By adding the two missing elements the taste, that the chef had originally intended, was brought forth. Likewise, God has given us a recipe for life and Peter encourages us to make every effort to include all the ingredients needed. We are to start with faith and add goodness. Next is knowledge, self-control and perseverance. Finally, we add the zest: Godliness, brotherly kindness and love. These eight ingredients combine to give us the kind of life God desires for us. Peter ends his thoughts this way. “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Today, ask God to take these ingredients and help you add them, little by little, to your own life’s recipe.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me have the faith I need to live for You. With this faith in place, help me add, day by day; goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, Godliness, brotherly kindness and love. I pray this in Jesus Name.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I live my life God’s way
Peter gives us a vision of what the Christian life should be like. Vision it for yourself. Picture God giving you all the faith you need to start. With faith picture Him helping you with goodness, knowledge and self control. Sense what it feels like to live out these attributes. Feel God add to that perseverance and Godliness. Sense His Holy Spirit helping you increase you ability in these areas. Finally, feel Him give you the brotherly kindness and love you need to serve Him. As you wait on Him, feel the presence and power of Holy Spirit fill you and enable you to live for Him.

Because Of His Mercy

TODAY’S VERSE
“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.”
Titus 3:3-7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul has written a beautiful description of what it is like to come to Christ as an adult. Paul had a lifetime of experience without Christ to look back on and constantly marveled at the grace of God to save him. And yet, as someone who came to Christ at a young age, I can say that today’s passage excites me just as much as it did Paul. I have found as I live my life as a Christian, that there are many times I experience my own foolishness and disobedience. I have been deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. Malice and envy have consumed me to where I have hated and been hated. And yet, with Paul, I can say that the kindness and love of God our Savior has appeared to me over and over again. You see, I strive to live under the Lordship of Christ. As I walk with Him, He continually convicts me and draws me back to Himself. Like Paul, the joy I experience in the fresh forgiveness of sins and renewed fellowship with Christ is, “not because of righteous things I have done but because of His mercy.” Like Paul, I am dependent on the renewal of the Holy Spirit to live my life. How about you? Do you experience the joy that comes from a daily walk with the living Christ? We were not made to receive Christ and then stop our Christian experience. Receiving Christ is only the beginning. We were meant to grow in Christ to fully mature believers. Today, might we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the blessed realization of our sins forgiven, fellowshipping with Christ as the Lord of our life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank you for forgiving me of my sins. Thank you for the grace, mercy, peace and joy that you pour into my life. Help me to live for you each and every day with the realization of all you have done for me.

I live in the awareness of Christ’s kindness and love
Today, meditate on a time when you were happy and excited about life. Let the experience fill your mind. Next, think of a time when Christ made you feel the same way. A time when you were full of the joy of the Lord. When you have that in mind, bring it forward to today and rejoice in God alive in your heart right now. Become aware of the kindness and love He has for you right now.

Thinking Right

TODAY’S VERSE
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Philippians 4:8

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You have heard the saying, “You are what you eat.” I think in reality we are more like what we think.” Thoughts, whether conscience or on a more hidden level, affect the way we feel, perceive reality, act or react. Thoughts help create our moods, attitudes and beliefs. Anger, jealously, pride, envy, sadness, rebellion, these and many other negative emotions or behaviors have their root in the way we think. That is why it is so important to be aware and take responsibility for our thoughts. Paul instructs us to consider our mind in a Spiritual war. We are to demolish any rouge thoughts that set itself up against Godly thinking. We are to take our thoughts captive and put it through a Godly filter so it becomes the way He would have us think. Paul also gives us a list of the kinds of thoughts we should dwell on. We should dwell on thoughts that are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. We have a choice, we can rule our thoughts or we can let them rule us. Today, let Jesus be the Lord of your thought life. Let Him help you with the way you think.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I bring you my mind and my sub-conscious mind. Help me bring all my thoughts into the light of Your Holy Spirit. Today, dear Lord, help me dwell on thoughts that are noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.  In Jesus Name.

Fear No More

TODAY’S VERSE
“I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Fear comes in different shapes and sizes. To be sure, there are full-blown phobias and crippling fears that can interrupt our life; but for most of us, fear is more insidious. Fears of rejection, insignificance, and abandonment may not interrupt our life but they can sure influence the way we think and act. You see, our thoughts, motives and behaviors are constantly shaped by either faith or fear. The Psalmist found the secret. He said that if we seek the Lord, He will deliver us from all our fears. Turn on the light of faith and the darkness of fear will dissipate. Decide to seek God today. Move away from fear, toward faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I want to trade my fears for faith. Today, when fear comes to my attention, I will seek You. I will seek You with all of my heart. Thank You that You promise to deliver me.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God delivers me from all my fears
Which is it, “I am afraid.” or “I am fearful?” The truth is, you are not your fears, you have fears. You can separate yourself from your fear and observe it. So today, meditate on Christ being there when you have a fear and picture yourself giving it to Him. Watch Him take your fear and experience your heart slowing down, your body loosening up and a peace returning to your soul. Picture your fear coming to you like a wave in the ocean coming to shore and as you give your fear to Christ watch it come to the shore and dissipate on the sand. Say aloud, “God delivers me from all my fears.”

My Generation

TODAY’S VERSE
So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obeying his commands.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How personal is God to you? How have you applied faith to your own circumstances? Are you living with a vibrant, relevant trust in God for your own personal circumstances or are you simply involved in a passed down religious experience. Now it is true that God is the same yesterday, today and forever, but each generation has a new set of circumstances and we must appropriate faith to our own unique situation. We can’t live off the faith of previous generations. True, we must not forget the great deeds that God has done in the past and we must keep His commands and teachings but now we have to take all we have heard and all that we know and make it true for us. This is our time to step up and trust God. So today, as different as this time is from all other times before, know that God is with you and set your hope on Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You and put my faith in You. I need You for such a time as this. I need You for specific needs in my life. I ask You to be Lord of my life in this generation. Help me to live for You today. In Jesus’ name.

What Do You Expect?

TODAY’S VERSE
“But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Expectations have a lot to do with outcomes. What is faith if it is not an expectation that God is going to do what He said He would do? What is hope if it is not an expectation of good things to come? What are you expecting from God? What are you expecting your life to be like? The answers to these questions make all the difference in the world. The Bible gives us many reasons to expect great things in our life. We have a great God with a great love for us who has a great plan for our life. This should influence what we expect today. We should go forth today expecting God’s favor on our life. We should expect God’s love to shine in our heart. We should expect that He will lovingly listen to our prayers and grant our requests according to His will. We should expect Him to act in love on our behalf. We should expect God to be compassionate and forgiving toward us. So let me ask you, “If you are a loved child of the King of Kings, what are you expecting today?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I say I trust You, but often my expectations betray me. I don’t act as if I believe You really love me. I don’t act as if You are determined to bless me today. Forgive me, Lord. Please help me to live in the expectation of Your love and blessing in my life today and everyday.

Quiet yourself and review your past few days. Have you expected great things from God? Have you walked in confidence and assurance of His love and blessing in your life, or have you been worrying and full of anxiety? Stop and visualize yourself walking around today with full confidence of God’s love and blessing in your life. Breathe deep and sense what it feels like to expect God’s blessing today. To expect Him to be with you and guide you. Picture God with you all day and start to match your expectations to the reality of His presence and power in your life.

A Road Through The Sea

A Road Through The Sea

TODAY’S VERSE
Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there!
Psalms 77:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This is from a Psalm written by Asaph. It is a Psalm where he spews out all his distress and frustration with God and the way his life was going. He says, “Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion?” And if we were honest, we would admit that there are times when we have thought the same thing. But something happened. He started to remember all that God had done in the past and started to overlay that on the present and the future. Like you would with a business that is going bad, you would look over the situation, remember business principles, apply them to your situation and start to make corrections. Circumstances were horrible but God’s love and power were the same. Asaph began to focus on all the good God had done and writes, “Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders!” And then he remembered, (I love this) that God led His people out of Egypt via a road, but not an ordinary road. No, a road that led through the Red Sea! A road no one would have ever thought of. That is the God we follow. That is the God we can trust in. He has a road for you. No matter how bad it looks, follow Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for complaining. I have forgotten so many times how wonderful You really are. I have forgotten about the Red Sea. Help me to trust You more. Today I commit to follow the path You have for me.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will trust in God
Visualize yourself with the Tribe of Israelites leaving Egypt. You are fleeing for your life on a road that is heading right toward the Red Sea. You have the Army of Egypt chasing you and a Sea of water in front of you. Picture yourself getting closer to the Red Sea and starting to complain. Feel the distress well up inside you. Just as you feel like giving up, sense God give you faith enough to trust Him. Begin to feel hope. Take a deep breath and picture the Red Sea open in front of your eyes. Sense your joy and begin to walk to the other side. As you cross the Sea see yourself full of joy and praising God. Apply this same joy to today as you decide to trust in God for whatever comes your way.
