Knowing God

TODAY’S VERSE
“My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.”
Job 42:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to walk in our Christian experience and really believe that we know God. We are like a baseball fanatic. You know the kind. He can tell you everything about a certain player. He can quote their batting average, number of homers, lifetime RBI’s. He knows where they played college ball, the names of his wife and children. He even has an autographed baseball. Yet he has never met the player. Never went to his house, sat with him at dinner or even had a discussion. Everything he knows is from reading or listening to commentators. Now don’t get me wrong, there is passion! Chances are he will fight you if you say something derogatory about the player. There is passion but it is based on admiration not friendship. Job came to a place where everything he thought he knew about God seemed empty and vain. And then He met God. Job knew all about God, He “worshipped” God, He even lived the way he thought God wanted him to; but when he saw God, it all changed. Knowing God in a personal and intimate way changes everything. And the beauty is that God created each of us with the ability to know Him. He has equipped us with the Holy Spirit who is to teach us all things and bring us into intimate fellowship with God. But the choice is yours. You can choose to spend time with God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you or you can continue to “know” about Him. Cry out to God today and ask Him to open your eyes like He did Job’s and you will be able to say, “My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, sometimes I feel so phony inside. I talk about you, I read about you, I pray to you, but I don’t seem to see you. Today, Lord, help me be conscious of your presence. Father, speak to me. Help the eyes of my heart to see you. I want to know you in a deep and personal way. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I know God deep in my heart
Come before God and ask Him to help you sense His love for you. Wait on Him. Pray, “Lord let me know Your love deep in my heart.” Wait on Him. Again pray, “Lord help me know your love deep in my heart.” As you sense His love for you, enjoy His presence and worship Him.

God’s Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. So please don’t lose heart-”
Ephesians 3:12-13 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul, the great leader of the New Testament church, was in prison. Some saw this as tragic and began to lose heart. Poverty, persecution, and hardship had been the cup of many of the believers; but to have Paul in prison was more than they could bear. However, Paul took this opportunity to write them from prison and today we benefit from his inspired words. He sent them a letter of encouragement and penned, “Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. So please don’t lose heart.” Paul knew it was true. Everyday he went from the prison into the presence. And because of Christ and his faith in Him, Paul came to God with boldness and confidence. Today we can do the same. Are you losing heart? Have you struggled and almost given up? Do not lose heart. God is here. Come today into His presence with boldness and confidence in His unfailing love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for inviting me to come to You with confidence and boldness. Thank You for loving me. Oh that I may know You and be filled with Your presence and power. Help me not to lose heart but to trust Your love.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God has invited me to come boldly into His presence
Today, quiet your heart and ready yourself to come into the presence of God. Visualize Almighty God inviting you to boldly come to Him. As you do, feel the confidence that He has given you to come. He loves you and wants you to worship Him and enjoy His presence. As you meditate say, “Heavenly Father, I come. Make me conscious of Your presence.” Wait. If needed, say it again, “Heavenly Father, I come. Make me conscious of Your presence.”  As you wait begin to sense His love and enjoy spending time with Him.

Ask For Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you hit a wall. Something comes along and has you completely baffled. You have no answers. Nothing makes sense. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to what is happening. What can you do? James offers a solution. He says, “Ask God for wisdom.” So today, stop, wait on God, cry out to Him and He promises that He will generously give you wisdom.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I need wisdom. I need Your guidance and understanding. You have promised that You will give wisdom to me generously.  I come to You in faith asking You to give me that wisdom today. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God gives me wisdom
When you ask, you have to wait for an answer. How often have you waited on God? Today you can wait on Him for wisdom. If not now, set some time aside and quiet yourself before Him. What is it you seek? Ask God and wait. Quiet your heart and muse on His presence. Quietly seek for His voice. God’s presence is real. His answer is sure. Spend concentrated time with God and He will guide you.

Don’t Fool Yourself

TODAY’S VERSE
“So get rid of all immoral behavior and all the wicked things you do. Humbly accept the word that God has placed in you. This word can save you. Do what God’s word says. Don’t merely listen to it, or you will fool yourselves.”
James 1:21-22 (GW)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
With today’s multitasking world it is hard to focus on anything for more than five minutes. Interruptions have become a fact of life. There are emergencies, just-in-time deadlines, and we make judgments on the fly and hope that they stick. Well, if we are going to make it spiritually, we have to be intentional. It isn’t good enough to hear the Bible, a verse here, a sermon there. We need to know the Word of God. And then, most importantly, we need to do it. Start today; make a commitment to study the Bible and apply it to your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I know that it is Your joy to help me learn the Word of God and apply it to my life. I invite You to be my teacher, guide and mentor. Please help me start today to make the Bible a priority in my life.  In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I do more than hear God’s word, I do it
The Holy Spirit is your teacher and He longs to take the Scriptures and plant them deep into your life. As you meditate say this affirmation out loud. I do more than hear God’s word, I do it. Visualize yourself reading the Bible and God revealing great and mighty truths to you about His love and purpose for your life. Sense the joy and peace you draw from this relationship and the deep sense of fulfillment you get from living out what you read in His word.

Slave To My Beliefs

TODAY’S VERSE
“For you are a slave to whatever controls you.”
II Peter 2:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We like to think that we are so independent. What could ever have control over us? But in actuality it is not usually one big controlling factor we need to worry about. Rarely would just one influence control our whole life. No, the author of Proverbs said it wisely, “It is the little foxes that spoil the vine.” It is the many controlling issues that either set us free or enslave us. Beliefs are that way. It is not one large belief that controls our life. It is a whole series of beliefs that shape who we are. What we believe affects our desires, emotions, aspirations, faith, hopes, limitations and behavior. Beliefs can enslave us or they can set us free. Jesus came to help shape our beliefs. Beliefs about life and beliefs about ourselves. So, what do you believe? What limiting thoughts do you have? When you think of yourself, what do you accept as true? When you think of opportunity, what thoughts hold you back? Beliefs can control the way we live. Paul wrote, “We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.” Today, if you are going to be a slave, be a slave of Christ. Bring your thoughts and beliefs to Christ and let Him shape them, hone them and when necessary, change them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I am so enslaved by my beliefs. I confess that so many are negative, painful, limiting, carnal, angry, lustful and ungodly. I need Your forgiveness and Your help. Oh, Holy Spirit, purify my mind. Sanctify my thoughts and help me bring every one into captivity and under Your influence. Help me to believe what You do. Today I give You my mind. Influence my beliefs, I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I give control of my life to Christ
As you quiet yourself, relax and go to a peaceful place. As you sit there sense that God is coming near. He comes with love and compassion. He knows you and is offering to guide you, mentor you and help you with your life. In your own way, picture yourself as His  and surrender your beliefs and your life to Him.

The Light Of God’s Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Remember me in the light of your unfailing love, for you are merciful, O LORD.”
Psalms 25:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So much of our negative behavior is the result of false beliefs about ourselves. To sin or to be caught in sin only confirms these negative beliefs or lies that we already have. And the pain of being reminded of how we perceive ourselves is too much to bare. We would rather use deception, avoid others, put on masks or act religious – anything but let others see who we really are. But is that who we really are? God does not think so. He is not the one who has called you a loser, no good, spoiled goods, a mistake. God knows exactly who you are, and He loves you. How? He remembers us in the light of His unfailing love. Today, go and do likewise. See yourself and others through the eyes of God’s unfailing love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I long to love like You. Not just loving others, but loving myself as well. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your unconditional love toward me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am loved unconditionally
Relax and take a deep breath. Inhale, exhale. Picture yourself coming into the presence of a bright warm light. It is the light of God’s unfailing love. Feel the warmth of the light, the peace of it’s presence and sense the pleasure of God. Hear Him say to you, “I love you, I am pleased with you, I have forgiven you and I have called you my own child.” Sit and repeat the phrase again. Meditate on it slowly, like a baby drinks from the bottle. The baby drinks then stops and then starts again.  Likewise, meditate on one part of the phrase at a time and let it become real for you. “I love you – I am pleased with you – I have forgiven you – I have called you my own child.”

What Do You Believe About God?

TODAY’S VERSE
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What we believe about God makes a difference. Is He an overbearing parent, never pleased with us? Is he our celestial Genie whose purpose is to give us our wishes on command? Is he a senile old man, unable to really comprehend what we are thinking or doing? Is He sadistic, getting pleasure from making our life miserable? Perhaps a mad scientist that started this experiment but has lost control, not able to influence any desirable outcome? If we are really honest with ourselves, we will see a little bit of our own beliefs in these scenarios. The author of Hebrews says if we want to please God, then we must believe that He is the God of the Bible, not something that we made up. Not some misconceptions that we bring with us from childhood. He is the God who created the world and loves us with a never ending love. He is the God that rewards those that earnestly seek Him. Start today to earnestly seek Him. Study the Bible, pray, meditate on His goodness. He is the God who desires to be known as He really is. Seek the truth about Him today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I confess I do not really know You as I should. I haven’t spent the time it takes. I haven’t shared my real heart with You. I haven’t waited long enough to hear Your voice. Forgive me. Please reveal Yourself to me through Your word and in my prayers. Today I commit myself to know You more.
AMEN

New Thinking Habits

TODAY’S VERSE
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
It is so easy to let our thoughts run away from us. You know, the inward chatter that goes on all day. The voice when you get up in the morning, the musing on the drive to work, the stewing over events on the way home. Inner thoughts are powerful. They create emotions, which in turn, cause actions. Paul is saying that we have to take ownership of our inner dialog. It is so easy to be negative, anxious, angry, doubtful, bitter or carnal in our thinking. Instead, we need to be responsible for what we think and deliberately focus on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy thoughts. What a difference this discipline would bring to our life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You my thought life. I want You to be Lord of both my conscious and unconscious part of my being. You know my thought process. You know my habitual thinking patterns. I bring them to You. I ask that You help me today begin a habit of focusing on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy thoughts.  In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Do You Hear?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God was frustrated with His people. They had wandered far from Him. They would not listen to God so He sent His prophet Isaiah to ask the people, “Have you never heard? Have you never understood?” We would do well to ask ourselves these questions whenever we read God’s word. We get so busy, so inwardly focused, that even when we read His word, we do not hear. We do not understand. We don’t begin to fathom the ramifications of the tremendous promises He gives us. In today’s passage God wanted to emphasis His patience, love, strength and commitment toward those in need. The prophet writes, “The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.” Unlike the Israelites, did you hear it? Did you understand? God is GOD! And God never grows weary of you. He wants to love and help you. He is never weak, not for a second! And He has all the power to help you in your situation. He fully understands where you are and wants to give you all the strength you will ever need to face the situation you are in. Rest assured God gives His power to us when we are totally weak and powerless. Today, might we hear His voice and understand His great love for us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father God, help me to hear You. Help me to understand the depths of Your word. Help me know Your truth. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit, I pray.
AMEN

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
‘“Then he asked them, ‘But who do you say I am?’ Peter replied, ‘You are the Messiah sent from God!”’
Luke 9:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Who am I? That is what Jesus asked Peter. He asks us the same question. Who is Jesus? But more importantly, who is Jesus to you? You could say, “He is the Savior of the world.” But how much better to believe, “He is my Savior.” You could say, “He is the friend of sinners.” But how much better to know, “He is my friend.” You could say, “He is the lover of all mankind.” But what joy if you could say, “He is the God who loves me.” Jesus isn’t so interested in what we know about Him. He cares more about how we know Him. Today, spend time with Him. Get to know Him until you can say with surety, that He is your God, your Savior and your friend and that He loves you unconditionally.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You that You care. You care about my thoughts, my beliefs, my relationship with you. Help me care, too. Help me know You in a much more personal and deeper way than ever before.
AMEN
