Relationship With God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.”
Luke 6:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what Jesus prayed about all night? Most of us struggle to pray for short amounts of time before our mind wanders off or we don’t know what to say anymore. But for Jesus it was about a relationship. Have you ever stayed up all night with a good friend? Jesus was spending time with His Father. We see this kind of prayer in John 17. Jesus is praying for all those that would follow Him. It was a deeply moving and passionate prayer. It was an intimate conversation with His Father. And Jesus prayed that we would have the same kind of relationship with God the Father that He did. He prayed, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.” Jesus asked the Father to make it so we would have the same kind of relationship that they had with each other. God has given us the ability to love Him, know Him, converse with Him, listen to Him, just like Jesus did. Isn’t it time that we started to spend more time with God? Why not start today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want a deeper relationship with You. I want to know You more, love You more, share with You more and hear more of what You want me to know. Help me do this through the power of Your Holy Spirit I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am moving toward a deeper relationship with God
Picture Jesus walking up the mountain alone. You are following and you see Him stop. He gets comfortable and starts to talk to His Heavenly Father. Sense the love between them. Picture the joy that they are sharing. It continues on and then Jesus sees you. Visualize Jesus asking you to come join Him. Feel the warmth of His love drawing yourself toward Him. Walk over and sit quietly before God. When ready simply imitate what you sense Jesus would do and just love the Father. Picture yourself conversing and building a deeper relationship with Him. When ready say, “I am moving toward a deeper relationship with God.”

Keep God In All Your Plans

TODAY’S VERSE
“You inspect the breaks in the walls of Jerusalem. You store up water in the lower pool. You survey the houses and tear some down for stone to strengthen the walls. Between the city walls, you build a reservoir for water from the old pool. But you never ask for help from the One who did all this. You never considered the One who planned this long ago.”
Isaiah 22:9-11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a great tension between trusting God and doing things by ourself. The old adage, “Pray as if everything depended on God and works as if everything depended on you,” sounds good but is it really what God wants? Yes, we should pray and ask God for His guidance, and yes we should work hard at what He has called us to do. But it is not like the prayer at the beginning of a meal. At mealtime we give thanks and then go about eating our food. But for our life concerns and projects we pray over what we are about to do and then remain in continuous prayer as we participate with God in what He has called us to do. The Israelites trusted God as they worked on the walls of Jerusalem, but somewhere between planning and building, they forgot God was in the plans. Isaiah wrote, “Between the city walls, you build a reservoir for water from the old pool. But you never ask for help from the One who did all this. You never considered the One who planned this long ago.” Today, as you go about your day, as you attack the plans that God has given you, consider Him. This is a new day; make Him the Lord of it and seek Him in all you do.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, forgive me for running ahead of You. I desire to live for You and yet it seems I live my life without You. Help me. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit so that I keep You Lord of all I do. Help me to live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God is Lord of all I do
Picture your today’s to do list in your mind. Scan the agenda and see yourself going through your day. Now stop, and start over. Picture Jesus with you, walking, sitting, talking, vitally interested in all you do and say. Sense His presence with You, guiding you through each appointment and activity. See Him directing you and blessing all your efforts. Visualize yourself at the end of the day thanking God for all He has done for you and blessing all your efforts. Repeat: God is Lord of all I do.

With God I Can

TODAY’S VERSE
“You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.”
Psalms 18:28-29 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
David’s faith in God is infectious. He shares how dire his situation is when he writes, “The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path.” And yet David trusts in God. Not just trust, David gushes with optimism. Verse after verse gives hope in the God who cares, the God who is able. When there is darkness in his life, God provides light. When there is an army, God gives him strength. When there is a wall in front of him, God enables him to scale it. David writes, “God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights.” We have problems, struggles abound and difficulties are all around; but today, trust in God like David did. Put your faith in Him. He will make a way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God Almighty, I need Your strength today. I need Your light in my darkness, I need Your help to scale the walls in front of me. Lord, give me the faith I need so I can say with confidence, “With God I can.”
AMEN

AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
With God I can
Quiet your heart before God. Invite the Holy Spirit to fill you with faith. Imagine yourself in darkness and slowly picture God bringing in light. Picture a large overwhelming wall in front of you. See yourself asking God to fill your heart with confidence. Feel your self becoming energized with strength and then scale the wall. Feel the joy as God meets your need. Repeat: With God I can.

God Hears Me

 TODAY’S VERSE
“But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.
Psalms 18:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love hope. I need hope. Everyday is new and so are the challenges. And there are a lot of things we can do to help ourself get through the morass of issues and concerns that face us. There are a lot of different techniques and systems that will help us. New ways of thinking, new tools. But one thing surpasses every coping mechanism, every strategy, every method of problem solving. It is our relationship with God. David knew this. He was a doer. He knew how to solve problems, yet when he was in severe crises, there was one place he went to over and over again. He went to God. He went to the arms of his good shepherd. And God heard him. He writes, “Yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.” His cries reached the ears of Heaven. So will yours. Today, don’t stop whatever is helping you but add to it the one thing that can make all the difference. In all your striving add hope. Cry out to the Lord, you will reach His ears.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to You. I come and present all my needs, all my concerns. I cannot make it without You. I cry out and I know You hear me. Comfort me even today, Lord. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God hears my prayers
Close your eyes and picture yourself before God, hands stretched out, humbly sharing your needs and concerns. Picture God looking at you with joy and understanding. Sense His concern and love for you. Breathe deep and as you exhale say, “Thank you, God, for hearing me.”

What Do You Believe About God?

TODAY’S VERSE
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What we believe about God makes a difference. Is He an overbearing parent, never pleased with us? Is he our celestial Genie whose purpose is to give us our wishes on command? Is he a senile old man, unable to really comprehend what we are thinking or doing? Is He sadistic, getting pleasure from making our life miserable? Perhaps a mad scientist that started this experiment but has lost control, not able to influence any desirable outcome? If we are really honest with ourselves, we will see a little bit of our own beliefs in these scenarios. The author of Hebrews says if we want to please God, then we must believe that He is the God of the Bible, not something that we made up. Not some misconceptions that we bring with us from childhood. He is the God who created the world and loves us with a never ending love. He is the God that rewards those that earnestly seek Him. Start today to earnestly seek Him. Study the Bible, pray, meditate on His goodness. He is the God who desires to be known as He really is. Seek the truth about Him today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I confess I do not really know You as I should. I haven’t spent the time it takes. I haven’t shared my real heart with You. I haven’t waited long enough to hear Your voice. Forgive me. Please reveal Yourself to me through Your word and in my prayers. Today I commit myself to know You more.
AMEN

New Thinking Habits

TODAY’S VERSE
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
It is so easy to let our thoughts run away from us. You know, the inward chatter that goes on all day. The voice when you get up in the morning, the musing on the drive to work, the stewing over events on the way home. Inner thoughts are powerful. They create emotions, which in turn, cause actions. Paul is saying that we have to take ownership of our inner dialog. It is so easy to be negative, anxious, angry, doubtful, bitter or carnal in our thinking. Instead, we need to be responsible for what we think and deliberately focus on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy thoughts. What a difference this discipline would bring to our life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You my thought life. I want You to be Lord of both my conscious and unconscious part of my being. You know my thought process. You know my habitual thinking patterns. I bring them to You. I ask that You help me today begin a habit of focusing on true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praise worthy thoughts.  In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

More Than A Father

TODAY’S VERSE
“And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, ‘Abba, Father.’”
Galatians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What a tender thought. Paul was very deliberate in using “Abba Father.” This is a more affectionate term than “Father.” The real translation of “Abba Father” is “Daddy!” God invites us to call Him “Daddy.” Can you say that? Have you thought of Him that way? Paul says that as God’s children, He has given us His Spirit and the job of the Spirit is to help us fall more and more in love with the Father until we realize that  He is our “Daddy.” Will you let Him do that? Will you begin to meditate, to really stop and consider that He is your loving affectionate Father? Imagine His deep love for you. Imagine you coming into His presence, calling Him “Daddy”. Ask God to help you know this reality deep in your heart, that God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I want to call you “Daddy”. I hear it in my head, but it isn’t quite in my heart. I invite You, Holy Spirit, to speak to my heart, to help me feel the Father’s love, to know the Father’s love. Prompt me, Holy Spirit, to call God, “Dear Father, Dear Daddy.”
AMEN

Here Am I

TODAY’S VERSE
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.’”
Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Matthew 9 reads like a journal on supernatural power. Jesus heals a paralyzed man, raises a dead girl and gives sight to two men. He is exhausted feeling cramped in by all the throngs of people coming to Him for help. Even after all this, Jesus goes from town to town teaching, preaching and healing every disease and sickness. But then there is a dramatic shift in strategy – Jesus sees all the people harassed, helpless and needing help and then tells His disciples to pray that God would send you and I to help Him do His work. Do you get it? Jesus didn’t come here to help and heal everyone by Himself. He came to redeem mankind, begin the process of helping mankind find the way, truth and life and then commissions you and I to take His power and ministry to the whole world. He has empowered you and I to aid Him in bringing His message of salvation and healing to a desperate world. The world where you and I live out our existence. In the Old Testament God asked His people, who will go share with the people? Isaiah said, “Here am I. Send me!” Might our response be the same!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I thank You for Your tireless mission of love that reached out to me. Today, I hear Your voice saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go?” How else can I respond to Your love but say, “Lord Jesus, I want to join You in Your work. Here am I. Send me!”
AMEN

Wait On The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
Psalms 27:14 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to delay gratification. We want what we want, when we want it. But what if it is a Godly dream? What if it is something you have yearned for so long? How do you wait, especially if it seems that God is silent? David knew the secret. He wrote, “Be strong and take heart.” He is calling on us to be strong and brave and use all the patience and strength we have in order to persevere. And then he calls upon us to “take heart.” Waiting is more emotional than it is intellectual. It is when everything in us is screaming for action, crying for resolution and we have the accelerator pushed all the way to the floor that we need to stop and calm ourself. We need to refocus on what is true and reconnect with God. Then in that moment, we can “wait” and allow God to help us regulate our emotion back to peace and joy. Today we have choices. We can wait, we can be strong and we can take heart. Today, wait for the Lord; He is there.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You that You know my situation. You know my needs. Help me gain strength from this and to take heart. Teach me to wait on You and trust You to provide for me in ways that only You can. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Be Not Afraid

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?”
Psalms 27:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes we just need to answer the question.  The Psalmist asks, “Who should I fear?” It could be phrased, “Why should I be afraid?” It would seem that the question is rhetorical. Why with God, we should not fear anything and yet many times fear blinds our eyes to the truth around us. I remember seeing a little boy who thought he was lost. He was in a crowd and start screaming. I was only a few feet away. He cried hysterically. I was going to help but I knew that his father was standing right next to him. The little child was so overcome with fear of abandonment that he cried so hard, he could not see his father right in front of him. It wasn’t until the dad picked him up and hugged him for a few moments that the boy took comfort in his father’s arms. Fear is like that. When we fear, it blocks out all other reality. Here is God, our light and salvation, and yet we act as if we are lost in utter darkness. We are in the stronghold of God’s love and yet fear blinds us from the reality of our salvation. Is this your reality? What is it that you fear? Rebuke it right now. Look into the eyes of Jesus. Let His light penetrate your mind and heart. Let Him be your stronghold. Hear Him say, “Arise and walk in peace.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I admit that I let my emotions overwhelm me. I do not allow myself to fully understand what it means that You are my light, salvation and stronghold. Forgive me, Lord. I want Your peace. I want Your joy. I want to know You more fully. Even today let me experience Your presence in my life. I ask You to make me fully aware of Your love and power. I give myself to You, Jesus; help me not be afraid.
AMEN
