TODAY’S VERSE
“Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. – So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrews 2: 18; 4:16 (NLT)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life has stress. It begins when we are born and continues up unto the day God takes us home. God knew this so He created a system where a child is given to their parents and they are to teach the baby how to be resilient, how to return to peace and joy from painful emotions. This is God’s remedy for stress. But for many it never happened. Instead, stress was greeted by helplessness and trauma was conceived. Later in life, if you add to that helplessness an implicit memory of a past painful experience, you can become overwhelmed. Secular neuroscience teaches that on one end of the continuum of trauma is the fight and flight response. On the other is the more destructive, the freeze response. But the author of Hebrews knew that there was another choice, a response to trauma that has saved many from the negative repercussions of stress and helplessness. There is faith. Faith in Jesus who Himself went through trials, suffering and trauma and is able to help us. This is why the author suggests that we come boldly to God to receive all the mercy and grace we need in order to help us. Today we have a choice. We can choose faith.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your grace, mercy and love. Help me overcome the stress and trauma in my life like You did.
In Your most Holy name I pray.
AMEN
