Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
“Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested. – So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrews 2: 18; 4:16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life has stress. It begins when we are born and continues up unto the day God takes us home. God knew this so He created a system where a child is given to their parents and they are to teach the baby how to be resilient, how to return to peace and joy from painful emotions. This is God’s remedy for stress. But for many it never happened. Instead, stress was greeted by helplessness and trauma was conceived. Later in life, if you add to that helplessness an implicit memory of a past painful experience, you can become overwhelmed. Secular neuroscience teaches that on one end of the continuum of trauma is the fight and flight response. On the other is the more destructive, the freeze response. But the author of Hebrews knew that there was another choice, a response to trauma that has saved many from the negative repercussions of stress and helplessness. There is faith. Faith in Jesus who Himself went through trials, suffering and trauma and is able to help us. This is why the author suggests that we come boldly to God to receive all the mercy and grace we need in order to help us. Today we have a choice. We can choose faith.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your grace, mercy and love. Help me overcome the stress and trauma in my life like You did.
In Your most Holy name I pray.

He Will Intercede

TODAY’S VERSE
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.”
Romans 8:26 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Have you ever had anyone intercede for you? Sometimes when you are in situation and because of the circumstances, someone else is a better choice to represent your needs. Perhaps a lawyer, customer service representative, a trusted friend or medical professional? When they are qualified and earnest, it is a beautiful thing to watch. And we need help. Here we are, trying to live our life, one person amongst billions of others. We have great needs but who will help us? Who can understand our plight? Who would care enough for us to do something? Who would have the power to effect any change? Paul tells us who. He writes, “The Spirit helps us in our weakness.” Thank God the Father for His Holy Spirit. He is the one who intercedes for our weaknesses and needs in this life. Even when we don’t know how to pray, the Holy Spirit passionately groans and pleads our case to God the Father. What compassion, what mercy. Even now come to the Holy Spirit with your hidden secrets, your most perplexing problems, your most heinous sins, your deepest need. When you do, He will intercede, and when He does, He will bring peace and deep joy to your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I come to You just as I am, desperate and needy for Your touch. You know my situation. I need You to intercede for me to God the Father. To Him, who can do all things. To Him, who is all love and all power. Dear Holy Spirit, I give You control of my life. Guide me, direct me, fill me with Your peace and power. I pray this in Jesus’ name.

What Have You Asked For?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”
John 16:24 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
I’m not sure which is sadder:  a person who never gets a chance to have what he or she desires or a person who had all the chances in the world and never took one? Here we are with a God who is all wise, all powerful and all loving. We also have Jesus Himself saying, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” And yet what do we do? What have we asked for lately? Jesus is not talking about a magic lamp that we rub three times and make wishes for our own pleasure. We aren’t to ask God for things with wrong motives. Instead, Jesus is suggesting that we have a fellowship with His Father which is so rich and deep, that we end up aligning our will with His. When we know His will, it will bring us deep joy and great pleasure to ask God for it. We will be about the business of making His will done on earth as it is in Heaven. What at home, work or in your church can you ask God for? What can you ask for your family, friends and co-workers that would be in alignment with His will? Pray that God would give you insight into His will and a Holy boldness to ask for it. When you do, Jesus said, “You will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I ask You to help me know what to pray for. Help me to know how to pray for my family, friends and co-workers. Help me pray about my relationships, career and ministry. Speak to my heart and then give me the faith to ask You . Help me not to be like the person who had so many chances in life but never took one. Help me to ask You for something special today! In Jesus’ name.

All The Strength You Need

TODAY’S VERSE
“I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Strength is the energy that God gives us to complete a task. It is what helps us endure to the end. Strength is also what helps us resist negative forces. What better place to get strength than from God! He is able to provide all the strength we need to do what He has called us to do. Need to love someone who is unlovely? Ask Him for strength. Need to forgive someone who hurt you deeply? Ask Him for strength. Have to do something that seems impossible? Ask Him for strength. Is fear crippling you, depression strangling you? Ask Him for strength. Paul said, “I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.” We can experience the same reality that Paul did. How? Paul answered that in his letter to the Ephesians. He wrote, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.”  Today, ask Him for strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Almighty God, I need Your strength. I can’t live the life You want me to without it. Help me, Father. Give me all the strength I need to do all that You ask me to do. Today strengthen me with Your power, through the Holy Spirit I pray. In Jesus’ name.

Meditate

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.”
Psalms 145:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I am sitting one hundred yards from the Pacific Ocean. And yet, with all the activity that this vacation has had so far I have yet to spend twenty minutes in front of it’s mighty power. Tonight I walked out the door and down the path and within seconds I could hear the pounding of the waves on the shore. Standing along a guard rail, I looked down at the water coming in wave after wave and lets it’s reminder of God’s mighty love and power fill my heart. Tomorrow I plan on sitting on the sand and just being there soaking it in. How is it we can be so close to something and not take the time to capture it’s essence? David knew the answer. We major on the minors. We don’t take the time to contemplate and muse on the important things in life. David wrote, “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” David took the time to devote focused attention to God and His wonderful attributes. He took the time to pay attention to God. He dared to stop and reflect, to ponder on God’s almighty power, splendor and miracles. And when he did, he was a better man for it. You see focusing on God does not make God powerful, no more than my looking at the ocean makes it so majestic. It only allows us to see and know the mysteries of what has always been there. Today, don’t miss another moment. Don’t let another day go by without seeing and focusing on all that God is and all the love He has for you. He is majestic, He is full of glorious splendor and His miracles abound.
 
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to know You and Your glorious splendor. Help me stop and meditate on You. Help me focus my attention, love and devotion toward You. Guide me into a deeper knowledge of You I pray.

Do You Really Know Him?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
II Peter 1:2-3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you know Christ? I don’t mean “know of Christ”, but do you know Christ to the point that knowing Him deeply influences your life? Look at today’s verses. Peter is saying that we will experience an abundant amount of grace and peace through our knowledge of Christ. He then goes on to say that our knowledge of Christ will set loose the power of God and give us everything we need for life and godliness. I love that phrase, “EVERYTHING WE NEED FOR LIFE AND GODLINESS!” Some things? Almost everything? No, everything we need for life! This is no small claim. Peter is saying that our knowledge of Christ is crucial to everything we need in life. So what does knowledge mean? Peter was using the Greek work that means a full knowledge, a deep participation by the knower in the object known so that it powerfully influences him or her. This is more than an acquaintance or a casual relationship. It is a passion to know, really know, God. It is a hunger for His word, a longing to spend time in His presence, an openness to dialog freely with Him and listen for His voice. There is so much to gain by knowing Him, really knowing Him. You can start to know Him more today. He is waiting for you to try.
 
TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, I confess my lack of spiritual knowledge. I have not taken the time I should to really know You. I haven’t been real with You nor have I let You be real with me. But today, I want to start. I want to know You, really know You. I want to hear Your voice. I want to sense Your presence in my life. I want Your scriptures to come alive in my mind. Father, I want to know You as Father. Help me know You.  In Jesus’ name.

How Should We Live?

TODAY’S VERSE
“And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God.”
Titus 2:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul gives great instruction to Titus. In it we are told to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. Instead Paul tells us to live with wisdom, righteousness and devotion to God. It is interesting. Have you ever noticed how we don’t need any instructions on how to turn “to” godless living and sinful pleasures? It is part of our natural disposition. Our brokenness, our striving for recognition or our escape from emotional pain, drives us toward godless solutions and pleasures. How then can we overcome such temptation, such natural tendencies for self gratification? Thankfully Paul finishes his thoughts with a great truth, one that we can depend on. Paul writes, “He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.” The secret is Jesus. He came to cleanse us, free us and assist us with living for Him. Today, give your life to Him. Let Him be the source of your victorious living.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, how I thank You and praise You for freeing me from sin and cleansing me from its stain on my life. Thank You for Your assistance in helping me live the life You have called me to live. In Jesus’ name I pray.

How Do You Wait?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.”
Psalms 37:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Waiting can be hard, especially when we find ourselves in difficult situations. The trouble is what we add to waiting. It is wait plus fretting; wait plus stewing; wait plus conniving; wait plus brooding. Instead, David adds God to the waiting. He says to be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him. That means if we are going to add anything to waiting,it should be wait plus faith; wait plus prayer; wait plus hope; wait plus the peace that passes all understanding. Is there something that you are having trouble waiting on? Are you fretting, stewing, conniving or brooding? If so, give it over to Jesus. Be still before Him and wait in faith, hope and peace.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so hard to wait. Forgive me for fretting, stewing, conniving and brooding. Help me instead to trust You. I surrender my situation to You. Today I will wait in faith, hope and peace. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”
Hebrews 11:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wrestled with faith? I have. Even as I write this I am asking God for one of the biggest projects I have been involved with. I have been part of other peoples ideas that were larger, but this is one that God has given me, and I feel the weight of it. And that is where doubt comes in. Am I hearing God right? Does God want to do this? What if He doesn’t do something? And then I read where the author of Hebrews writes, “And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” So I come in obedience, if for no other reason but to please Him, and pray that God would lead me, guide me and answer the prayer that I believe He gave me. That He would calm my fears, my doubts and as I choose to be confident, that He would flood my soul with assurance that what hasn’t happened yet will. Today I choose faith. And what about you? What is it that you are trusting God for? I pray that you, too, will have the confidence that what you are hoping for will actually happen. Today, might your faith please Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come today believing that You exist and that You reward those who sincerely seek You. I choose to exercise my confidence that what I have asked in faith will actually happen. I pray this in Jesus’ name and for His sake.

Pursue Godliness

TODAY’S VERSE
“Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.”
I Timothy 6:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you pursuing? What demands your attention and devotion? What occupies your time? What do you spend your resources on? What area of your life gets your very best? The answer to these questions speak volumes about your spirituality. Paul, speaking to Timothy, encourages him to spend his life pursuing spiritual goals. He writes that he should pursue righteousness and a Godly life. In doing that he also tells him to pursue faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Could Paul be serious? What about fame, wealth, knowledge, success, significance and security? What about a hundred other noble goals? Why think about it. If we pursued Paul’s list, what would happen? What would we end up like? I am convinced, if we focused all our intentions on the list Paul gives us, our life would be of the highest calling. We would be living life the way Jesus did. There are good pursuits but there is only one life on this earth. If we believe anything about Christianity, then let’s pursue a life like His. Today, make it a goal in everything you do to pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me pursue You and the life You want me to live. Help me live the way Jesus did. I need Your Holy Spirit to guide me, help me and give me the strength to pursue a godly life. In Jesus’ name.
