What Do You Want?

TODAY’S VERSE
“What do you want me to do for you?”
Mark 10:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
This was one of the first passages I ever preached on. I was a teenager giving a gospel message. I remember still to this day the impact this simple passage had on me. Here was this blind man sitting by the road and he hears that Jesus was coming by. Nothing could shut him up. He started shouting out to Jesus. The disciples tried to make him quiet down, but Jesus tells them to bring the man to Him. I love what happens next. Jesus looks at him and says to the blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man simply answers, “I want to see.” What appealed to me then as a teenager still appeals to me forty years later. It is the sincerity of Jesus and the invitation of His question to tell Him what it is that we want. This is the same Jesus that we pray to. It is the same heart of Christ that bids us come to Him. It is the same power available that asks such an open-ended question. Today, see Him passing your way. Take the time to sit before Him and answer His question, “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I thank You for coming my way today. I thank You that You care so much for me that You would ask me what I need from You. I hear You say, “What do you want me to do?” I come silently before You and whisper my request. – Thank You, Lord, for hearing the desire of my heart.
AMEN

Joy and Quiet

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have stilled and quieted myself, just as a small child is quiet with its mother. Yes, like a small child is my soul within me.”
Psalms 131:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Have you ever seen the behavior of a mother and infant? They go through a rhythm of joy and quiet. The mother is happy to be with the baby and the baby is joyful in return. Laughter and a lot of love is exchanged. Next the baby will quiet itself and just want to rest. This is especially true after nursing. The joy bond between the mother and child is followed by quiet. A deep, serene trust is built. This is the way God prepares us for life. He knows that, in this world, we need joy and quiet. David knew this too. David purposely stilled himself to a place of quietness where he could enjoy and be nourished by the fellowship of God. He knew that peace, hope, courage and strength all came from the love bond He had with His heavenly Father. This love bond was the result of times of joy and quiet He spent with God. We need to do the same. God offers us peace that passes all understanding. He gives rest to those that He loves. He asks us to be still so we can know that He is God. Today put aside some time and quiet yourself before God. Be at peace, resting in His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today and desire a sacred time of quietness before You. I need Your peace. I need to be assured of Your love. I desire to experience Your quiet presence. As I come before You, like a child resting in their mothers love, I ask You to please quiet my heart and fill me with your joy, love and peace. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Directions

TODAY’S VERSE
“Show me the right path, O LORD; point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.”
Psalms 25:4-5 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
There are so many paths to choose from. Wouldn’t it be nice if we just had to make one turn and never had to ask for directions again? But that isn’t going to happen. Life has too many variables and we were given a free will in order to choose our behavior. The good news is we are not alone. We don’t have to make decisions all on our own. As a mighty warrior and later as King, David had to make many decisions. Although he had the right to decide whatever he wanted to, David knew that having God’s guidance was the only way to make good decisions. He prayed that God would show him the right path. He asked God to be specific and point out the way he should go. So God would guide Him by teaching David truth. As David meditated on God’s word and character, he would end up putting more trust in God. This trust would result in hope and direction. Today, you have many different directions you could take. Stop and commit your journey to Him. Ask God to guide you and direct you in all you do and say. Put your trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I commit this day to You. You know all the decisions ahead of me. Grant me wisdom and show me the paths I should take. I put my hope and trust in You. Guide me I pray.
AMEN

Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD gives his people strength.”
Psalms 28:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Strength is a mighty gift to have from God. With strength you can have many options. You can have strength to make it through a tough time. Strength to accomplish a difficult task. Strength to overcome overwhelming circumstances. Strength when all else has failed. Strength to be patient and wait on the Lord. Strength to tear down strongholds. Strength to get through another day. Strength to outlast a temptation. Strength to give it another try. Strength to accept grace. Strength to face your deepest fears. Strength to start over. Strength to admit when your wrong. Strength to accept your weakness. Strength to trust in God. Today God has all the strength you need. It’s yours for the asking.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You that You give Your people strength. You know my needs. You know where I am weak and where I need Your strength. Give me all the strength I need for today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Patience

TODAY’S VERSE
“Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.”
Colossians 1:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
In his letter to the Colossians, Paul admonishes the Christians to “live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way.” He then tells them how. He says to get our strength from God’s power so we can exercise “great endurance and patience.” Endurance and patience pleases God. Patience is easier accomplished when there is hope. Where there seems to be a sense of fairness, it is easier to endure. But how often do we have that luxury? It is during difficult situations where all seems lost, where hope is nowhere to be found, that we must trust God and be strengthened in a way that only His power could accomplish. We come to Him, with all His glorious might, and choose to deliberately be patient and endure. It is an act of faith, one that is pleasing to Him. Today, trust God and His power, put your situation into His hands and choose to be patient and endure.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me trust in Your power and might and exhibit patience and endurance today in all I do.
AMEN

Talk With God

TODAY’S VERSE
“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.’”
Psalms 27:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What a glorious invitation! There are two elements to an invitation that can make it special: who is inviting you and what you are invited to do. In both cases this invitation is extraordinary! First, it is God who is doing the inviting. David said that his heart heard God’s invitation. Have you? Have you sensed that call of the Holy Spirit to come and fellowship with God? He bids you come to Him. God desires your fellowship, but you must come. Second, we see that God has invited you to talk with Him! So many times we talk “to” God, not “with” Him. What kind of friendship would you have with someone if you did all the talking? That is not fellowship, it is not a relationship. God Almighty has asked you to talk with Him. You can share your innermost thoughts and then wait and listen to what He has to say. God wants to commune with your heart if you will let Him. Today, God has invited you to come talk with Him. Stop now and start a conversation, talk with Him, listen and let it begin a life long dialog.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your invitation to come and talk with you. Today I come, not to share my own thoughts and situation, but to listen. Talk to me God, I want to hear from You. I pray that I may start an exciting life-giving dialog with You. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

What Do You Really Need?

TODAY’S VERSE
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”
II Corinthians 9:8 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Need. That is certainly a relative word. We have taken the word “need” and have turned it into everything from a wish list to a whim. Larry Crabb addresses this in his book, “The Pressure’s Off.” He writes about what we really need. He writes, “Nothing wrong with desiring safe airplane flights and warn marriages and a decent income. But none of these things, none of our hopes for a “Better Life of Blessings”, represents God’s priority agenda… We need only to be safe from any power that opposes God’s agenda for our lifes.” And what is that agenda that we need? Crabb shares the three needs that God wants for us; radical forgiveness, supernatural love and spiritual might. And Paul shares that God is able to grant you these needs because through His grace God will provide all of the forgiveness, love and might that you will need in order to be involved in His good work. Today, might we lay aside those “other needs” that we think are so important and ask God to meet our real needs of forgiveness, love and spiritual might.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need You and Your spiritual provisions of forgiveness, love and spiritual might more than anything else in the world. Help meet my real needs today. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

His Will

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”’
Matthew 11:28 (NLT)

“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 (NASB)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
You would think as Christians we would put God’s will above our own. But that is not always the case. We often find ourself assuming God’s will, not asking Him for it. God’s ways are not always our ways. Life has so many variables, that we must seek His face in order to know His will. Jesus said to come to Him when we are weary and carry heavy burdens. He said to seek His kingdom and righteousness before anything else. If we want to live out God’s will in our life, then we must seek God. A quarterback has the same goal as his coach. They both want to win the game. But the Coach is better versed in the game. He has more experience and a more comprehensive view of the whole game. If the quarterback is going to do his best, he needs to work in harmony with the coach. How much more should we align our behavior and attitudes with God Almighty? A hurtful situation, a wayward son, a sudden illness, a loss of a job. Life has many twists and turns. When they come, stop and seek God’s face. Let Him know your thoughts, your apprehensions, your fears and frustrations. Come to Him, seek Him first and He will direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I do “my own thing” so many times. I do not take the time to know your will. I just assume that what I am doing is the “right” thing. Forgive me. Help me to stop when I am tempted to run in a certain direction. Help me to seek You first. Help me to share with You my inward thoughts and feelings so You can show me Your will.
AMEN

Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil,’ which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.”
Galatians 5:16 – 17 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
The fight between good and evil can really get old. This is especially true when we are talking about our own behavior. Which of us has not experienced the struggle between the Holy Spirit inside us and what Paul calls our “sinful nature”? Paul points out the difference in outcomes between both. He writes, “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. – But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The point is clear. Paul says that we need to let the Holy Spirit guide our life if we want to see the Spiritual results that our heart really desires. Today, yield to the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. Ask Him to assist you in everything you do. Focus on the fruit of the Holy Spirit and watch it grow.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit that is alive in my heart. I confess my struggle with my sinful nature and ask that the fruit that comes from fellowship with the Holy Spirit will grow in my life.
AMEN

God’s Provision

TODAY’S VERSE
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Self reliance. Isn’t that the modern day dream? Actually, it has been that way since the beginning of time. And “faith” seems to go right along with it. We have all sorts of faith when things are going well. But is it faith in God or self reliance? The answer comes when money, health or relational situations start to falter. When things start to fall apart, do we? Does our “faith” go south and fret, worry and fear start to occupy our minds? If so, listen to what Paul is saying. “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” We have a God who loves to provide all our needs. He wants to lavish us with His loving provision. So today, when we feel threatened, when we consider bad news, when something comes up that goes straight to the pit of our stomach, let us stop and consider what Paul wrote, “God will supply all your needs from His glorious riches.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I become self reliant and forget that it You that provides everything I need. I need You Lord and I thank You that You will supply all my needs today from Your glorious riches.
AMEN
