TODAY’S VERSE
“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.”
I Corinthians 15:34 (NIV)
TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to deceive ourself, especially when it comes to living for God. We are too afraid to admit to ourselves, or anyone else, that we have “sin” so we begin to wear a mask and pretend to live a Christian life. We know the routine, the language, the ritual but do we know God and all the freedom He brings? Or perhaps we have followed everyone else to the bleachers and week after week we make the “game” on Sunday and cheer on our Pastor and their winning team. We are happy to be a spectator, even a rabid fan. We love watching. We know all about the game but never actually play. Paul knows all about pretending and says that in truth, we are living as if we don’t know God at all. And perhaps we don’t. He begs us to come back to our senses. He implores us to stop our sins, and to get to know God so we can live the way He wants us to. Stop all the habits, lies, cheating, fighting, bitterness, materialism, lust of whatever other behaviors that have us all tangled up. Today the madness stops. Today we come back to our senses and turn to God. He is waiting. He will forgive, He will restore. He will renew.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have wandered so far. I have been happy to be in the bleachers wearing my mask. Today, I come to my senses and surrender my life to You. I want to know You and live for You. Help me to this end I pray.
AMEN
