Come To Your Senses

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.”
I Corinthians 15:34 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to deceive ourself, especially when it comes to living for God. We are too afraid to admit to ourselves, or anyone else, that we have “sin” so we begin to wear a mask and pretend to live a Christian life. We know the routine, the language, the ritual but do we know God and all the freedom He brings? Or perhaps we have followed everyone else to the bleachers and week after week we make the “game” on Sunday and cheer on our Pastor and their winning team. We are happy to be a spectator, even a rabid fan. We love watching. We know all about the game but never actually play. Paul knows all about pretending and says that in truth, we are living as if we don’t know God at all. And perhaps we don’t. He begs us to come back to our senses. He implores us to stop our sins, and to get to know God so we can live the way He wants us to. Stop all the habits, lies, cheating, fighting, bitterness, materialism, lust of whatever other behaviors that have us all tangled up. Today the madness stops. Today we come back to our senses and turn to God. He is waiting. He will forgive, He will restore. He will renew.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have wandered so far. I have been happy to be in the bleachers wearing my mask. Today, I come to my senses and surrender my life to You. I want to know You and live for You. Help me to this end I pray.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
“Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits- who forgives all your sins .”
Psalms 103:2-3 (NIV)

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
I John 1:9 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What a beautiful plan. God creates us for fellowship with Him. Like Adam and Eve, God allows us a free will, so we can choose to love Him and follow His ways. All the while God knows that He has created us with a human condition that tempts us to stray from Him and His Holy standard. Yet because of His perfect unconditional love for us, He does not require us to be perfect, just forgiven. This is possible through the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Now as a result of Christ, God is able to forgive us of every transgression. John writes, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” Today, confess anything that is between you and God. Get your conscience clear with Him. When you do, God promises to forgive.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit that convicts me of things that are wrong in my life. Thank You for Jesus Christ who took my place on the cross. Guide me today and help clear my conscience with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Maturity

TODAY’S VERSE
“Until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”
Ephesians 4:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Maturity is something to be aspired. It is not an automatic by-product of salvation. Jesus brings us salvation and with that He brings deliverance and healing. Thank God that this changes our identity, our nature, who we are. But even still, we can become a Christian and be immature. Both in a human and a spiritual capacity, maturity is a process. As children we are to mature into adulthood. As Christians, we are to grow into Christ. This is why Paul says that God has given us, “apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.” He writes, “Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.” As we subject ourselves to the teaching and authority to those that Christ has given to us, we will mature in the Lord. According to Ed Khouri in his book, “Restarting”, maturity is “reaching our God given potential, maximizing our identity, using our skills and talents effectively and growing to the full capacity of our individual design.” Christ has come to give us life and give it more abundantly. This means He has come to help us mature. Whether we have missed a stage in our human development and need to go back and mature or if we are a new creature in Christ, God’s desire is that we mature. Where are you in your stage of maturity? Are you thriving as a mature adult in Christ? Today, examine your own life. Ask God to show you where you need to mature. Ask Him to guide you and help you be all that He intends you to be.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, point out my immaturities. I want to grow in You. I want to be all that You want me to be. So please, show me where I need to grow and mature and then show me how. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Living For Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.”
John 17: 20-21 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
This was more than a prayer Jesus prayed. It was His mission statement. His goal was to spread the message, there was a loving God that had salvation for all people, to all ends of the earth. He knew that this would only happen if we worked together. It is through a oneness of purpose and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit that we can spread His message to all the ends of the earth. In his book, “The Deeper Journey” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “Union with God results in our being a person through whom God’s presence touches the world with forgiving, cleansing, healing, liberating and transforming grace. – The world will not believe in Christ because of our sound theology, our correct Creed, our well defined dogma, our rigorous religiosity. The world will believe when it sees Christlikeness manifested in our life.” Today, might we commit our self to being a more effective witness for Christ through our unity, faith and love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live for You. Help me join other believers in a deep loving relationship, so together, we will be a witness of Your love, grace and truth.
AMEN
