Servanthood

TODAY’S VERSE

“Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.”
Mark 10:43 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some of Christ’s teachings were counterintuitive to what we learn in this world. A leader, we think, should be assertive, take charge and rule with a “my way or the skyway” attitude. But this is not the type of leader Jesus advocated. When discussions of leadership came up amongst the disciples and they were vying with each other to see who would sit on Christ’s side in glory, Jesus reminded them of His kingdom values. You see, in the Kingdom of God it is of supreme importance to love, to prefer others over yourself, to be kind and to serve. Jesus said it this way to the disciples, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant.” A servant is one who makes sure that the needs of the person that they are serving are met. They care for the other person. They are genuinely concerned for the other person’s welfare. Jesus wants us to be that kind of leader. A person who cares about those that are following. A person that puts love in action and people above the process. Today, when you are asked to lead, remember whoever wants to be a leader must be a servant.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me lead through servanthood. Help me follow the example of Jesus who was the greatest servant leader of all. Help me love others and serve them with all my heart. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
