The Fruit Of The Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I think of our human propensity for anger, confusion, impatience, harshness, lack of control and impulsiveness, I am amazed at God’s solution. Our humanness, a result of man’s fallen condition, has been trumped by God’s Holy Spirit. What a plan. God gives us a body in which we house our personality with enough room for His Holy Spirit. The result is the ability for the Holy Spirit to produce in us new attitudes, motivations and behaviors. Paul calls it fruit. What a great analogy – the Holy Spirit alive in us, growing into a beautiful fruit tree. The fruit that the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. You don’t have to make an apple tree produce apples. When watered, nourished and receiving adequate sunlight an apple tree produces beautiful luscious apples. Likewise, you don’t have to manufacture the fruit of the Spirit; rather, you begin reading and meditating on His Holy word and spending time in relationship with God through confession and prayer and the Holy Spirit will generate the results. Begin today to nourish your Spiritual life and let the Holy Spirit produce its fruit.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I desire the fruit of the Holy Spirit to be evident in my life. Help me to read and meditate on your word. Help me to relate to you in prayer and confession. Help me, Holy Spirit, live the life you want me to. Produce your fruit in my life, even today.
AMEN

Consider The Poor

TODAY’S VERSE
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
I Timothy 6:18 (NIV)

“Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!”
Psalms 41:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created you for a great purpose. He created you to be His ambassador of love! All around us are people in need. No one is immune from heartache, illness or crisis. But there is a group of people close to the heart of God that He keeps reminding us of. It is poor. It is so easy to forget, yet He doesn’t forget. And if we are going to be His disciples and do His business, then we must take serious God’s cry for us to help the poor and needy. Paul tells Timothy to command those with the means to do good. He wants us to be “rich” in good deeds and to be generous. God has called His children to be kind and compassionate to those in need and when we are, David reminds us that there is great joy to those who are kind to the poor! And it is true, there is great joy. Today ask God to help you find ways to help those that are less fortunate.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I get so wrapped up in my own life that I haven’t taken the time I should to consider the poor and needy. I worry about my own needs and do not feel the compassion I should for those in need. Please forgive me. Help me today to find something I can do. Guide me to someone who I can help. I want to be generous and willing to share with others in the way you have been so generous and loving to me.
AMEN

His Perfect Peace

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you think about? Where do you fix your thoughts? God expects us to consider what we think and judge it according to His word. Trouble comes into our life and we begin to fear. When it does we have a choice to make. Will we remain in fear? Will we let it escalate into panic? Or will we obey today’s passage and trust in God, fixing our thoughts on Him? When we do, He promises us peace. Not just any peace, His perfect peace. It is the same way with anger, jealously, doubt and a hundred other thoughts that come into our life everyday. Today, when negative thoughts come to your mind begin a new habit. Trade them in for peace. How? By giving the thoughts to God and then choose to trust in Him by fixing your thoughts on His love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me trade my negative thinking for your perfect peace. Today, help me to fix all my thoughts on you.
AMEN

Boast About This

TODAY’S VERSE
“This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.”
Jeremiah 9:23-24.(NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are taught as a child not to be proud. But what about an earnest, heartfelt joy, welling up inside ourself that has to express its appreciation for what we have? What of expressing our sincere appreciation and wonder at something so extraordinary, so surreal that it defies us to keep our silence? There is such a boasting. It is a deep, holy appreciation for what God has done for us. The Lord told Jeremiah to tell the people not to boast in human strength or in materialism. These are nothing to boast about; they pale in comparison to what God has for us. If we are going to boast in anything, then here is what God says we should boast about: “Let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness.” How can we hold such a truth inside? How can we stop from sharing with others such a tremendous privilege it is to know the Lord God of the Universe? That this same God has given us the privilege to call Him, “Lord of our life”? It is the same God who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness that calls us His children. It is He that we affectionately call Father. Today, rejoice in the fact that our Almighty God loves you. Go boast in this and when you tell others, tell them that He loves them too!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you that I can boast about the fact that You love me and that I know You. Thank you so much. Help me really understand the unbelievable privilege that is mine, so that I boast about Your amazing love to others and they will desire the same for themselves.
AMEN

Thriving In The House Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people.”
Psalms 52:8-9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Not all planting environments are the same. Amount of sunlight, average temperatures, availability of water and soil composition can have a dramatic effect on the growth of a plant. This is why David uses the illustration of an olive tree growing in the house of God. Because of a Godly environment, David is saying the olive tree, which is symbolic of you and I, thrives. This is not just existing but living life to the fullest. What David is really saying is when we live in the presence of God, we do more than just grow spiritually, we thrive. The result of thriving in the presence of God is praise and trusting Him. So, what can you do to create a environment that makes you conscious of the presence of God in your life? What can you do to make your spiritual life thrive? You can start as David did by praising God and always trusting in His unfailing love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come to praise You today for Your unfailing love. I trust Your leadership to guide me and help me grow in Your presence. I desire to be like the olive tree that thrives in your house.
AMEN

Presence Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, ‘If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.’ – Then Moses said, ‘Now show me your glory.’”
Exodus 33:14-5, 18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The people of God had sinned. Moses was in the mountain, hearing from God, when God told him to go down from the mountain because the people were rebelling against Him by creating an idol and worshipping a false God. Moses pleaded with God to spare the people and God told him to take the people away. Moses knew better than to lead this people without God’s guidance so he asked for God’s presence to be with him. Even more, Moses asked God to show him His glory. Oh that we would seek out and depend upon the presence of God the same way Moses did! What a difference it would make in our life. In his book “Experiencing Healing Prayer”, Rick Richardson writes, “Do you long to be filled at the core of your being with more strength, more substance, more hope? You may feel urgent need of immediate help and practical steps. But I implore you to realize that knowing God, practicing God’s presence and seeking God’s life are more important to your healing than anything else in all the world.” C.S Lewis, in his book “Miracles” writes, “The presence of God is the most real thing we ever encounter.” Today, decide like Moses not to go any further, not to consider any new direction, without being conscious of the presence of God. Might we pray, “Lord, show me Your glory.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know so little about Your presence. All I know is I don’t want to take another step without really knowing You. Lord, help me become aware of Your presence. Reveal Yourself to me. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Stop Coping

TODAY’S VERSE
“Letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
Romans 8:6 (NLT)
“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
For a long time I had wrestled with my glasses. They were bent, causing me headaches and resulting in having to move my head awkwardly to make the bi-focal lens work right. But hey, I could see okay and why take time out to get them fixed if I didn’t need to. “If it’s not broken, why fix it?” I was coping fine. Eventually, my reading was worse and I noticed signs starting to blur at far distances. I would move my glasses on my head and “cope” harder. Finally, my wife set up an appointment to get new glasses and I went in. I was embarrassed to realize that it had been over ten years since I last had an eye exam or new pair of glasses. As they tested my eyes, I was amazed at how much better I could see, how less my face tensed up as I didn’t have to “cope” with seeing. As I left, I could not help but think of how many issues in life I act the same way. I look at life through worn out glasses, learning to cope with inferior sight when all the time a new pair of glasses is waiting for me. Jesus said He came to give us extraordinary living. Paul wrote that we can choose to let the Holy Spirit control our mind. The result is not some half-baked coping, it is life and peace. Our own thinking is poor eye-sight at best. We need the direction of the Holy Spirit to give us the sight we really need. Today, give up coping and start living. Quit trying to make it on your own, just getting by. Start living with the life and peace God has for you. Give your mind to the Holy Spirit and let Him take control.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have tried to cope on my own. I say, “I will follow You”, but instead I rely on my own efforts. Forgive me, Lord. Today, I give You my mind and ask You to control my life. I am tired of coping. I want the life You have for me. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

Fellowship With Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“To you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus. – God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
I Corinthians 1:2(NLT), 9 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you wake up in the morning, who do you think you are? What purpose do you have? You could say, “I’m a mother and need to get my children taken care of.” “An employee and need to get ready to work.” “A broker and need to make money in the market today.” “A retiree and I need to volunteer at the hospital.” A larger purpose may be a certain occupation like, “A police officer and I need to save lives.” While all of these are noble and certainly are worthy of expression, what I don’t find most of us doing is getting up in the morning with the realization that Paul was trying to make. In reality, you and I have every right to get up and say, “By God’s grace I am one of God’s holy people and I have been asked to fellowship with Christ today.” How would that affect the way we plan? What attitude would that give us? What joy would there be in our heart? We are a chosen people, chosen by God to live for Him. Jesus desires that we become consciously aware of His presence, actively involved in a dialog with Him. He wants to share in our joys and our sorrows, our victories and our defeats, our greatest pleasures and our most mundane tasks. Today, might we choose to fellowship with Him. Choose to include Him in your day. Share, pray, meditate, talk to Him. Today, might we really know what it means to be called into the fellowship of Jesus Christ our Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to fellowship with You. Help me to appreciate and fully understand what that means. Help me today to begin to fellowship with You in more deep and meaningful ways. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Trust, Delight and Commit

TODAY’S VERSE
Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
Psalms 37:3-5
TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a Spiritual rhythm in these three verses. It really speaks to the soul. It is like drinking a tall cool glass of water after coming in from a steamy hot day. Somehow trust, delight and commit seem to go together. Today start with trusting God. Give everything over to Him. Let go, trust Him. Then stop and delight in Him. Feel His love. Let Him give you deep joy. Delight in His presence.
Finally bow before Him and commit everything to Him. Put your life in His hands. And you know what? He says He will give us the desires of our heart. It doesn’t get better than this!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come to you now and trust you with all my concerns, and worries. You are God and I give myself to you. I choose to delight in you. I ask you to fill me with a deep joy today. I want to love you with all my heart. I commit this day to you and all that will transpire. I commit myself joyfully into your hands. Thank you that you have promised that if I trust, delight and commit, you will give me the desires of my heart.
AMEN

Hope

Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 13:15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a glorious hope we can have in Christ. Paul prays for the church in Rome and we can claim this same prayer for ourselves. He prays that God will fill us with joy and peace. But not just fill us, He desires to completely fill us. And not just because of hope but because we are dealing with the source of all hope! And how can God do this? He does it as we trust in Him. The result is a confident hope, powered by the Holy Spirit. Today, let us put our hope in Him, the source of all hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, help me trust in You as the source of all my hope. Help my hope turn into joy and peace so I can overflow with a confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
AMEN
