Harmony

TODAY’S VERSE
“So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.”
Romans 14:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You would think that the church would be the first place we would look for a group that is building each other up, but it’s not always the case. We can hurt each other just like any other group. It takes hard work to live in harmony. We come from so many diverse backgrounds with so many different temperaments, beliefs, emotions, assumptions, experiences and wounds that without concerted effort, it is impossible not to hurt each other. That is why Paul said to “aim” for harmony and to “try” to build each other up. It is not easy, but this wasn’t just some light hearted request. We must try. We must do all that we can to love each other as Christ would love us. As we submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He will produce in us the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Then we will begin to build each other up in ways that will result in harmony. So today ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, mold you and use you and let us aim for harmony and begin to build each other up.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I invite You to produce Your fruit in my life. I want to live in harmony with others and help build them up. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 14:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to get caught up in all the trappings of this life. We live in a very materialistic and mechanistic world. But there is more to life than fame, fortune, and fleshly appetites. We are emotional and spiritual beings and can choose to live by different standards and values than the world. Paul wrote that the Kingdom of God is about “living a life of goodness and peace and joy.” But not just any goodness, peace and joy. No, the source of these emotions is none other than the Holy Spirit. There is a life that God desires us to have and the secret lies in our life in the Spirit. Isn’t time we get to know the Holy Spirit and let Him appropriate these qualities in our life? Today, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, teach you, guide you and assist you in living all that God desires for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit. You, who is so instrumental in my Christian experience. You, who is so misunderstood and unappreciated. I ask forgiveness for my ignorance and apathy toward You. Instead, I come today to You and ask You to help me live a life of goodness, peace and joy in and through You.
AMEN

A New Person

TODAY’S VERSE
“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
II Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We are a new person in Christ. But how much do we really know about this “new person” that we have become? The authors of “Truefaced” make this point, “If we do not start with ‘trusting who God says we are’, we will end up trusting in our own resources to try to please God.” How true is that? The fact is, in Christ we are sons and daughters of God. We are joint heirs with Christ. We are a temple of His Holy Spirit. We are a “saint” and God’s workmanship created to do God’s good works. We are a disciple of Jesus Christ and at the same time a citizen of heaven seated with Christ in heavenly places. We have been chosen by God to be His very own. When we were born again we became a member of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a people of God. In fact, in Christ, we are Holy and dearly loved, free from condemnation for the things we have done. In fact we are unconditionally loved and have been completely forgiven and made righteous. We have been established, anointed and sealed by God in Christ and have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Today, let these truths sink deep into your heart. You are a new person in Christ, the old life is gone and a new life has begun.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for making me a new person in You. Help me know more of what this really means and to live it out in my everyday life.
AMEN

The Joy Of His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”
Psalms 16:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you look at your relationship with God? Is it drudgery? Is your Christian experience legalistic, nothing more than an empty ritual? Perhaps your spiritual life is hap hazard at best, a hit or miss with your devotional life. It begs the questions, “How do we get a vibrant, meaningful, life-changing Christian experience? David knew the answer. He knew that the way we receive the pleasures of living with God is by having Him show us the way of life. It is spending time with God and living in the “joy of His presence” that we learn true happiness. We were made for fellowship with God and nothing else will satisfy that longing in our heart. He has the “peace that passes all understanding.” He is the one whose essence is love. He is the one who knows us intimately and can meet our every need. He is the one who “fills us with His Spirit.” Come to Him today. Let Him show you the way of life, granting you the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You know me and have everything I need to live a happy and fulfilled life. Please fill me with Your Spirit. Show me the way of life and grant me the joy of being in Your presence.
AMEN

Transform Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we become a Christian, God begins a transformation in our life. His goal is to transform us into all He created us to be. He does this by renewing our mind. This is more than just the way we think, it is also the way we feel. It includes those sensations that send us into mood swings or addictive behavior. God wants to be involved in our emotional pain. He wants to heal our negative memories and restructure our irrational beliefs. But how does He do this? He does this through His Holy Spirit as we study His word, spend time in prayer and fellowship with other believers. It is through this process that we mature into the person He wants us to be. Today, give yourself to God. Submit yourself to the process of change and let Him transform you through the renewing of your mind.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your help in making me into the person You want me to be. I give You my mind, my emotions and my will. Guide me, lead me and transform me I pray.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Romans 12:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus warned us, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” Life is, well life. It comes with all the ups and downs. But we must remember what Jesus said next. He said, “But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” What comfort. This is why Paul could write to the church in Rome to rejoice in their hope. But not just a half hearted hope. He said a hope that is confident in its outcome. With this confidence we can also be “patient in trouble.”  We would rather avoid trouble, but that doesn’t work. Jesus said to take heart or as some translate it, “be of good cheer.” That is the kind of patience Paul was talking about. It comes out of the awareness that God is there and that He cares. That is why Paul finishes his instructions with, “Keep on praying.” God is greater than our worries. Today, when troubles come, be confident in your hope. Be patient and talk to God about your problems. He will guide you. He will comfort, He will give you strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that when troubles come, I can come near to You. I can be confident in my hope that You care, and will guide me and help me. Help me today to be patient and bring every worry to You. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Give Praise

TODAY’S VERSE
“But you are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love. Therefore you did not desert them.”
Nehemiah 9:17 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The story of Nehemiah in the Old Testament is about the redemption of God’s people. The people were scattered. They had disobeyed God and he allowed calamity to come upon them. But in God’s timing, He called Nehemiah to rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem so the people could come back together as a nation. When they were done rebuilding the walls they had a great celebration. Nehemiah writes, “Standing on the stairs were the Levites—who called with loud voices to the LORD their God and said: “Stand up and praise the LORD your God, who is from everlasting to everlasting. – Our God, the great, mighty and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love.” They celebrated God who is forgiving, gracious and compassionate. What do you celebrate about God? What is it about God that brings a smile to your face and a joy in your heart? If you can’t think of anything then think on this. God has never given up on you, He will never desert you, He is always slow to anger and will always keep His covenant of love with you. Today, take pause and give praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your gracious love toward me. Thank You for Your forgiveness and compassion. Thank You that You will never desert me but will keep your promise to always love me.
AMEN

A Friend Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“You were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has brought  you back as His friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.”
Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you believe about yourself is key to the way you live. What you believe God thinks about you can make all the difference in the world. That is why Paul wrote his letter to the Colossian church. He wanted them to know who they were. He starts out reminding them that they were the very enemies of God, separated by their evil thoughts and actions. But just as quick, he shares that God, through the death of Christ on the cross, has now accepted them as friends. This gives them the right to come into His very presence as a holy and blameless individual. In their book “TrueFaced” the authors say it this way, “As a maturing Christian, I no longer define myself by my sin or the sin committed against me, but by who God declared me to be.” And what has God declared about you? He has declared, because of Christ and your personal faith in Him, that you are His friend. Today, let this reality sink deep into your heart. Let it fill you with joy and peace as you live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for declaring me as Your friend. Thank You that through the death and resurrection of Christ, Your son, I am Your child, completely loved and forgiven of all my sins. Help me to live in this reality.
AMEN

Rejoice

TODAY’S VERSE
“But let the godly rejoice. Let them be glad in God’s presence. Let them be filled with joy. Sing praises to God and to his name! Sing loud praises to him who rides the clouds. His name is the LORD—rejoice in his presence!”
Psalms 68:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Joy comes from relationships. And one of the most joyous relationships we can have is with God. Why? Because God created us that way. He created us for fellowship with Him. It is the longing of God’s heart to have communion with us. We love our children and we hope that they rejoice in that fact, but who is really blessed? Isn’t it us, the parents? We are the ones who had the joy of bringing them into the world and nurturing them into maturity. Aren’t we the real winners? What joy our children bring us. Likewise, God gets great pleasure out of His relationship with us. And at the same time we are blessed by God. How thankful this should make us. How full of praise. So today, rejoice that you are loved by God, deeply loved. Be glad in His presence for He desires your relationship. Be filled with joy that you bring the Almighty pleasure. Sing praises for all His love for you. Rejoice!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You for Your love for me. How full of praise I am in the thought that I can really know You. How glad I am to dwell in Your presence. Thank You Lord. How I praise Your name.
AMEN

Stand In Awe Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let everyone stand in awe of him.”
Psalms 33:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever been blown away by something? Watching Michael Jordon doing a dunk, the sunset in Hawaii, Isaac Stern playing Beethoven’s Sonata in C Minor on his violin, the Rocky Mountains; these are just a few things that can inspire. But the Psalmist writes of something much greater than any mountain majesty. He writes of the majesty that created the mountain. He shares, “The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs.” His conclusion was, “Let the whole world fear the LORD.” What about you? When is the last time you stopped and stood in awe of God? When have you let your mind go and just bask in His greatness, His power and His infiniteness? No one can do it for you. The good news is, it’s easier than you think. Just stop. Close your eyes and whisper, “How mighty You are, dear God.” Let it sink in and add, “I stand in awe of You, almighty Lord.” Then wait. Muse on Him. Pause and let the majesty of God flood your soul. Meditate; He is awesome, He is mighty, He loves you. Today, stand in awe of Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I stand in awe of You. You are mighty! You are glorious. You are worthy of all my praise. To You be the glory, I stand in awe of You.
AMEN
