Always Pray

TODAY’S VERSE
“One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.”
Luke 18:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus was a master story teller. His parables had deep meaning and were full of spiritual truth. He was on a mission and teaching certain truths was a very important part of His visit on earth. “Love one another.” “Love God with all your heart, mind and soul.” “Do to others as you would have them to do to you.” These are a few of His major themes. But in today’s passage, Luke shares one of the most important life principles Jesus came to tell us. The message was, “Always pray and never give up!” It’s simplicity, yet profound spirituality leaves me oerwhelmed. Pray? That’s it? Could it be this simple? And yet anyone who has had strife in their life knows how hard it is to keep praying. Complain, no problem. Fret, have it covered. Avoid any action at all? Been there. Pray a little? I can do that. But Jesus was specific. And He said it out of love and complete understanding of how this life works. He knew the balance between Heaven and this world. He said it clearly, “Always pray and never give up!” So today, what will it be? Christ bids us to follow Him. He knows our situation and commands us to “Always pray and never give up.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, You never ask me to do anything that You won’t enable me to do.  You have asked me to bring everything to You in prayer and to keep bringing it, never giving up. Lord, I desire to do this. Help me, empower me, increase my faith, encourage my heart. Today, I put my faith in You and will not give up.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I will pray and never give up!
Quiet your heart and bow yourself in the presence of God. Meditate on His almighty power. How strong, how powerful. Muse on His abundant love for you. Sense His awareness of you, His pleasure in communion with Him, the sheer expanse of His love for you. Affirm in your heart that He hears you, He understands your situation and has asked you to pray and never give up. When you are ready, say to God out loud, “Lord, I will obey, I will pray, I will not give up!”

Promises

TODAY’S VERSE
“Through his glory and integrity he has given us His promises that are of the highest value. Through these promises you will share in the divine nature because you have escaped the corruption that sinful desires cause in the world.
II Peter 1:4-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Peter reminds us that God has given us great and precious promises. Promises are those great weapons that we have to counter negative thinging and painful emotions. How many times we feel out of sorts, emotionally troubled when all the while God’s promises are greater than our fears and circumstances. Promises like He will never leave you, or He has fully forgiven you and has prepared a place for you in glory. God promises that nothing can seperate us from His love and that there is no condemnation now that we are in Him. He has promised that the Holy Spirit is in us to comfort, guide and direct our life. He has promised that He has given us everything we need in order to live a Godly life. Peter knew this so he encourages us to, “make every effort to respond to God’s promises.” That’s the important key to promises. If we are going to enjoy the peace and joy that comes with the promises, we need to appropiate them. We need to respond to what He promises and act on it. When we do, we will share in His divine nature and escape the negative thinking that comes with our natural human disposition.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I give this day to You and put my faith in You and Your love for me.  Help me focus on all the great and precious promises You have given me. Help me to trust You and to not to lean on my own understanding.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I stand on God’s promises
Come to God and quiet your heart before Him. Picture God in all His power promising to love, protect you and care for you. Sense His amazing love and let your mind be at peace. Take a deep breath and as you exhale say, “Father, I trust in Your promises.”

Your Source Of Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
“There I will go to the altar of God, to God—the source of all my joy.”
Psalms 43:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Joy is the great equalizer. It is what our soul strives for, that spiritual homeostasis that keeps life in balance. But joy isn’t something we can conjure up by ourself. Deep, rich joy comes from a loving relationship with God. When we find ourself out of sorts, when our emotions seem to be at the edge, it is our relationship with God and the deep affirmations that He gives to us, that bring us back. The Psalmist knew where his joy came from. That is why he wrote that he went to the altar of God and through praise, worship and prayers, he found the source of all his joy. Jesus knew this too. When people came to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” He replied, “You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” Yes, Jesus said that because it was the right moral choice; but I believe He also knew that it was the best solution to all that bothers us as human beings. He knew that our heart, mind and soul is the true altar of God. Indeed, knowing God in deep and intimate ways is our true source of joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, how I long to know You in deep and personal ways. Help me worship You at the altar of my heart, mind and soul, so I can know You as the true source of all my joy.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God is the true source of all my joy
Come today and focus on your internal place of worship, a place where you come before God and love Him with all your, “heart, mind and soul.” As you invite God to make His presence known to you, give Him any painful emotions that you are experiencing and let Him help you return to joy.

Hope In God

TODAY’S VERSE
“And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”
Psalms 39:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Hope is only as good as the person you hope in. Blind hope is not hope; it is credulity, the state of willingness to believe in one or many people or things in the absence of reasonable proof or knowledge. We don’t just hope for hope’s sake. Our hope is not in a religion. It is not is a creed or tradition. No, we believe in the one and true God, the God who is there. A moral and loving God. The God of eternity who has a much broader perspective on life than we could ever imagine. We come to our loving God and put our faith in Him; so when we need hope, we simply have to draw from our Spiritual experience and put our trust in Him. Today, join the Psalmist in his answer to the question, “Where do I put my hope?” Answer God by saying, “My hope is in you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me when I doubt You. My worry is testament to my lack of faith or trust I should have in You. Today, dear Lord, I come again and renew my hope in You. I reaffirm my faith and put my trust in Your love and almighty power. My hope is in You, my Lord and my God.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
My hope is in the living God
Ask yourself, “What are the things that I am worried about?” Bring them to mind and reflect on them for a moment. Name them and as you do, Ask yourself, “Is God greater?” As you ask yourself that question, allow yourself to see God as much greater than your worry. Sense His love for you. As you consider His wisdom, power and might, ask yourself, “Where will I put my hope?” Answer by saying, “My hope is in the living God.

God’s Power

TODAY’S VERSE
“I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Ephesians 1:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul is throwing out a challenge to all of us who think just knowing about Jesus is enough. Knowing the Bible and tenets of the faith is great and necessary for our Christian growth, but we are nowhere near what God wants for us if we do have experiential knowledge regarding Christ’s power and mighty strength. Paul is so emphatic that he used four different words in this passage explaining God’s power. First, it is great power. This is the same word we use for dynamite. It is an inherent natural power. Second, Paul uses the word “working”. It is a working operative power. It is the same word we use for energy. The third word for power is “mighty”. This means a manifested strength. It is used as might, strength and mighty deeds. The word actually means the overwhelming evidence of power. Finally, Paul uses the word “strength”. This means a power that is inherent, part of its natural capacity. It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead! Paul is saying that he wants us to know God’s natural inherent attribute of strength. God is all powerful. The only thing stronger than His power is His love for us. This is what God wants us to believe. This is what God wants us to avail ourselves of. Today, let us ask Him to use His mighty strength in our lives. Let us trust Him for great and mighty things, so we will be a witness to this generation that is desperately seeking a spiritual solution to the struggles they are having in their lives.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, enlighten the eyes of my heart that I may know the incredible greatness of Your power that You have for my life. Help me trust You and avail myself of the power You want to use on my behalf. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I Trust God To Use His Mighty Power In My Life
Picture yourself on the beach watching the mighty waves of the ocean come slamming onto the shore. Know that God’s strength is greater. Imagine God creating the world out of nothing and sense deep in your heart, the incredible greatness of God’s power for you. Say with confidence, “I trust You, dear Lord, to use your mighty power in my life.”

Trust God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Praise the LORD! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.”
Psalms 28:6-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is hard to relax. I mean really relax. Why is it? We say we have faith and yet we are wound up tighter than a spring ready to snap at the next bit of pressure. Perhaps it is because when it comes to living life on our own, we are way over our head. We try, but life is so complicated. There are so many variables. But the truth is, God never intended us to live life all by ourself. He wants us to depend on Him. He wants us to live with His love and mercy helping us along the way. This is where fellowship with God is born. When we acknowledge that He is God, that He loves us and we begin to communicate with Him and share our inner struggles and needs, He hears us and gives us the help we need. God is pleased. And so are we. David knew this and proclaimed, “I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.” Today, relax, give it all to Him. Trust God, He will have mercy and help you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father God, I come and bring all my burdens to You. I am so tired of trying to fix everything myself. I need You. I ask You for mercy. Please help me today, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I Put My Trust In God
Quiet your heart and come before God in prayer. Sense this big burden you are carrying on your back. Picture God wanting to take the burden from you. Take it off and lay it at His feet. Feel the relief as you take it off your back. Sense the joy in God’s heart as you give it to Him. He has heard your cry for mercy and is pleased to help you.
Smile and feel the joy in your heart as you say, “I put my trust in God.”

Close To God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”
James 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
A person shared that there was a sign on the expressway that said, “Do you feel far away from God?” He was thinking about the question when the next billboard read, “Who moved?” Isn’t that usually the case? When we feel far from God, it is because we have turned our back on Him. James knew that we have this propensity so he wrote, “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” But the question is, how do we come close to God? The first thing we need to do is turn back in the right direction. The Prophet Isaiah wrote, “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.” Confessing to God and repenting from any sin, will allow us to have a clear conscience and reopen the door of fellowship Him. Then we can turn to God with our heart and mind. Both our emotions and thoughts have so much to do with our relationship with Him. We come to Him in quietness, reflection, meditation and prayer. We open our emotions and thoughts to Him and allow His Holy Spirit to commune with us, guiding, convicting, teaching and directing our life. God desires to have a relationship with us. He hasn’t moved. Will you come to Him today?

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I must confess that there are so many times I feel so distant from You. I admit my own wandering. Forgive me for the sin that has separated us and help me to stay in close fellowship with you. I give you my heart and my mind. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit, I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I have fellowship with God
Stop and allow God to speak to you about anything that would be in the way of fellowship with Him. As He brings anything to mind, confess it and ask for forgiveness. Allow God to forgive and cleanse you. As you do, picture yourself moving toward God and He being there, waiting and very happy to be with you. Take a deep breathe and then say, “I have fellowship with God.”

Perfect Peace

TODAY’S VERSE“You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Perfect peace. I have a hard time comprehending that. Perfect peace. I take a deep relaxing breath just thinking about it. That is what God is promising us if we trust in Him. Why? Because He is trustworthy! He can be trusted. But trusting is more than just saying we trust Him. Isaiah qualifies the kind of trust we need to have perfect peace. It is the trust that keeps our thoughts fixed on God. Fixed on His love. Fixed on His compassion. Fixed on His grace. Fixed on His provision. Fixed on His promises. Fixed on His almighty power. Today, let’s experience that perfect peace. We can start right now by fixing our thoughts on Him and keeping them there throughout the day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Lord, I desire Your perfect peace! Please help me trust in You by focusing my attention on You and all that You will provide to get me through this day. Please, Lord, when my thoughts wander and peace starts to flee, nudge me and help me to refocus on You again. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name. AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I live in God’s perfect peace
Today fix your thoughts on God. Say each phrase out loud and slowly. Pause between each phrase and let God fill your mind with images and sensations of His greatness. As you do, let His peace fill your heart and mind. Focus and fix your thoughts on…His love… His compassion… His grace… His provision… His promises… His almighty power. Say, “Today I will live in God’s perfect peace.”

God’s Throne

TODAY’S VERSE
“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrew 4:14-16 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes you need a helping hand. You need someone who understands what you are going through and can help you navigate difficult times. Jesus is that intercessor. He is God with all the power and wisdom we need, yet because of His volunteer time spent on earth in human form, He knows exactly what we are going through. He knows all our limitations, frailty, emotions and how to work with them and live a victorious life. He can guide us down the same path of faith, strength, hope and love that He took. So let’s do what the author of Hebrews suggests. Let’s come boldly to our gracious God and ask Him for the help we need today. We will find Him gracious, compassionate and able to help us when we need it the most.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, I come to You because You know all about me. You know my situation. You know my thoughts, my frustrations and my desires. You know my needs. I come to You because You are the Almighty God and can do all things. And yet with all Your Holiness, You are still endlessly compassionate toward me. You promised that if I come to You, You will help me when I need it the most. I come to You now. I give You this day with all of its challenges, struggles and complexities. Make me conscious of Your presence as You meet the deepest needs of my heart and life today. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I come boldly to the throne of our gracious God
Quiet your heart and sense the loving presence of God. Picture God’s throne a far off. Slowly start to approach God on the throne. As you do, sense His pleasure in your approaching Him. Feel a joy deep within you and imagine coming boldly into God’s very throne room. Say to God, “I come dear God for Your grace and mercy and thank You for Your wonderful love for me.”

I Am Trusting God

TODAY’S VERSE
“But I am trusting you, O LORD, saying, ‘You are my God!’ My future is in your hands.”
Psalms 31:14-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when we just have to trust God. Not with a blind faith, but a faith built on a solid foundation; a faith with roots going down deep into our being. A place where our primal fears and apprehension lie colliding with our seemingly logic and assumptions. When everything in us says, “Run, hide, quit, fight or give in,” God shows up and we have to choose. David had to make a choice and he chose God. He may have been afraid but he said, “But I am trusting.” He may have had advice that was contrary but he said, “But I am trusting.” His back was against the wall, all human hope exhausted yet he said, “But I am trusting!” Today, let go. Hear God’s voice, see His amazing love and power for you and say with David, “But I am trusting you, O LORD – You are my God! My future is in your hands.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to trust in You. I know I should and I am so weak in my faith. Holy Spirit, comfort me, encourage my heart, blow gently on any small amber of faith You find and fan it into a flame. Ignite my heart so I can trust You more. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I am trusting God
Quiet your heart and be still. When ready, visualize a pad in your mind and write a list of things you are deeply concerned about. As you look over the list, sense God’s presence. Allow God to look over your shoulder at your deep concerns. Sense His love for you and His desire to work things out for you. Feel faith well up inside and when you are ready, say out loud, “I am trusting you, O LORD – You are my God! My future is in your hands.”
