Protection

TODAY’S VERSE
“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber… The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”
Psalms 121:2, 3, 7, 8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
I once saw a child crying hysterically, afraid that they were abandoned by their father in a large crowd of people. I remember thinking how odd, because his father was standing right next to him. Something had frightened the son and in his despair, he closed his eyes. As he cried, with his eyes shut, he was not aware of his father’s presence. It was not until the father picked the child up that he opened his eyes and returned to joy. How often are we like that little child? Something frightens us. It could be a confrontation, an anxious thought or worst, some dread of things to come. When our mind gets in that state, faith seems to go out the window. It is as if we stepped out of the presence of God, when in reality what we did was shut our eyes. The Psalmist decided to go into his day with eyes wide open. He writes, “My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble!”  He then affirms his faith by believing, “The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Today open your eyes. Wipe away your tears. Look up, the Lord is here! He will watch over you and keep you from harm. Put your trust in Him.
 
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, make me conscious of Your presence so I will put my faith in Your precious promises. The promise that You will watch over me and protect me. The promise that You will keep me from harm. Help me today, to put my full trust in You and open my eyes to Your power and love.

Remember

TODAY’S VERSE
“Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you remained faithful even though it meant terrible suffering. – So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will.”
Hebrews 10:32, 35-36 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
It is easy to lose our confident trust in God. We get so wound up in our present situation that we forget that God has been faithful over and over again. This is why the author of Hebrews is warning us to remember what God has done in the past. He says to “Think back on those early days when you first learned about Christ.” Remember how you were full of joy over your salvation? Think back to the early years when you took God at His word and trusted Him for mighty things. What has changed? Has God? No! Perhaps you have become more cynical. Perhaps you chalk off your early years as idealism and today you are more realistic about God’s involvement in our affairs? If you are tempted to think that way, listen to today’s passage, “Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord.” Instead, have patience and endurance. Put your faith in the God who is faithful to you. Trust Him today and continue to do His will.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to remember all that You have done for me. Help me to remember Your faithfulness. Thank You for what you have done in the past. Help me trust You with today.

Restore Me

TODAY’S VERSE

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Have you ever been at the place where the last thing you want to hear is a word from God? You know, nothing like a “twinge of conscience” to ruin a “good time.” Who needs a sermon that meddles in our affairs? That is what the children of Israel felt like. They wanted to abolish visions and prophetic messages. Instead they wanted the prophets to tell them nice lies. They didn’t want gloom and doom. They didn’t want to live in the narrow way. It’s easy to get this way. It starts slowly, like a frog in boiling water. If we knew the attitude we were cultivating was going to reach the boiling point we would never allow it to grow, but apathy never starts out that strong. It is subtle. It is a slow process. We become too busy for Spiritual discipline. We begin to fill our mind with television and internet. Work and other affairs begin to distance us from church and fellowship with other Christians. Our conscience begins to convict us but we find it easier and easier to ignore. Where are you? Do you feel far from God? Who moved? God is always there, His love for you in unconditional. Turn to Him today while there is time. Before your heart gets to hardened, tell God how sorry you are. Repent, come back to God and you will find Him there. He is ready to forgive you and restore you to a real and relevant fellowship with Himself. 

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know how far I have wandered from You. Forgive me. I desire today to renew my fellowship with You. Restore my heart. I want to hear Your voice. I desire to do Your will. Hear me dear Lord, guide and direct me I pray, in Jesus’ name.

Surrender

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God.”
Romans 6:12-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Sometimes we emphasize the wrong thing. We try to stop the darkness instead of turning on the light. We punish negative behavior and never reward what is done right. We save our money so tightly that we don’t spend money on great opportunities that come our way. It seems that Paul was going to do the same thing. He writes, “Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin.” Now how hard is that? How joyful will that experience be? Don’t get me wrong, Paul is completely right! We must watch sin in our life. We dare not get loose with our life and live out sinful whims. But there is a better way. Paul finishes his thoughts by saying, “Instead, give yourselves completely to God.” How much better is that? There is real wisdom here, a real balance. If we give our self completely to God, will He not help us with the sin issue? Won’t the Holy Spirit guide us and direct us toward a righteous life? It is like the old saying, “Love God and do as you please.” If we truly love God we will only do what honors Him. So today, let’s combat sin in our life in a different way. Let’s resist sin by giving our self and everything we do and think today, completely to God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today and completely surrender to Your control. Guide me, direct me, help me live the way You want me to. I give myself completely to You.

Heartburn

TODAY’S VERSE
“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

“And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
When was the last time you really experienced the presence of God? I mean more than just head knowledge but a time you really felt His presence? You see, we were meant to know God, not just know about Him. Isn’t that the way it should be with someone you love? Isn’t real love more than a “head” knowledge? Love was meant to be experienced, not just studied. It’s the same with God. Stop and close your eyes, focus on a time you really felt the presence of God. When you get that image, relive it again in your mind. Do you remember what it was like? Did your heart burn within you? Paul prays that you will grasp how high and deep His love is toward you. If that doesn’t warm you up, what will? We were meant to experience God or as Paul says it, “be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” I pray that today you will be conscious of His presence and have a deep and meaningful relationship with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I long to know You in a more deep and intimate way. Guide me into Your presence. Reveal more of Yourself to me. I pray that I may really grasp all the love You have for me. In Jesus’ name.

Come To The Waters

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.”
Isaiah 55:1-2

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What an invitation. What an opportunity. What a heart felt plea from God to each and every one of us. Given a free will, we can choose what we do with our lives. We can decide who we want to follow. We can choose to fill our life with things that will never satisfy. But God loves us so much He pleads with us to wake up, to consider our priorities and choose life. In an allegory, God calls every person who is thirsty deep in their soul, to come and drink His waters of spirituality. He can quench our thirst. Knowing that we are spiritually bankrupt, He says buy what our soul needs from Him and charge it to His account. And then in what I think is a deep cry out to our materialist society, God says, “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.” God loves you and desires that you live your life in His abundant grace. Come to Him today. Take all that your soul needs. Feast on His love and care for you. Let your soul learn of Him and grow. Come today, to His waters and never thirst again.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for Your grace. Thank You that I can come to You today and drink of Your love, mercy and grace. Thank You for loving me unconditionally so that I will never thirst again. My soul delights in You.

Listen To God

TODAY’S VERSE
“‘I am the LORD your God. – But you have not listened to me.”
Judges 6:10 (NLT)

“And Samuel replied, ‘Speak, your servant is listening.’”
I Samuel 3:10

TODAY’S MESSAGE
“You have not listened to me.” You would think if God spoke, people would listen and obey. But do we? How many times have we turned our back on what His word has to say? How many times have we ignored the conviction of the Holy Spirit? How many times have we bent the meaning of the Scriptures into our own will? There is a dedication and discipline to listening to God. There is a passion tempered with conviction that results in obeying Him. Part of listening is repenting when we know we have ignored Him. Part of listening is remembering the past and trusting Him with the present. The biggest part of listening is “listening.” Reading His word, spending time with God, meditating on what He has to say, all of this creates a real and vibrant relationship. Relating to God in this way, knowing His unconditional love for us and learning to love Him in return is the best way to keep our hearts ready to listen to Him. Might our prayer be like that of Samuel, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for speaking to me so many times. Forgive me for the times I did not listen. Help me to seek Your wisdom. Help me to read Your word and to meditate on it. Most of all, might the prayer of my heart be, “Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”

He Will Answer

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Show me your unfailing love in wonderful ways.”
Psalms 17:6-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Some things only God can do. That is why we need to come to Him. When we do, we need to put our faith in His ability to answer our prayer. In his book, “Living From The Heart”, Dr. James Wilder elaborates, “God is the only one who can ultimately save us, sanctify us and deliver us from evil. –  When we let God do His work, things happen rather perfectly. But when we presumptuously take over His territory, things tend to crumble all so quickly.” Today, like David, may we pray to God because we know He will answer. If we do, He will show us “His unfailing love in wonderful ways.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your unfailing love. You have shown me it is so many ways. Today, I bring you my needs and all my cares. I come to You because I know You will answer. You grace is amazing, Your love never ending, Your power all sufficient.

Loving God

TODAY’S VERSE
“I come to your altar, O LORD, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.”
Psalms 26:6-8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
David knew that it was more important to know God than to know about Him. He did not hide behind his role as King but remembers what it was to be a shepherd. A shepherd out in the fields worshipping God and trusting Him with everything He did. He knew God and worshipped Him with songs and instruments. Later in life David would write today’s passage sharing about the same experience. He writes, “I come to your altar, O LORD, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, LORD, the place where your glorious presence dwells.” It is easy to get in a rut learning all about God but never spending time knowing Him. It is great to love Bible study. Who doesn’t love an inspiring sermon. It challenges us to live for God. But in all the learning, in all the doing, we also need to love worship. We need to love spending time in His presence. Today, spend time in His presence. Come to His altar and spend time in praise and communion.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I love Your word. I love serving You. But in all my haste, I must confess, I often forget to love You. I haven’t spent the time in Your presence. I haven’t taken enough time to worship You. Help me to come to Your altar more often. Help me sing thanksgiving to You and meditate on Your wonders. Might knowing and loving You be more important than knowing about You.

Emotional Healing

TODAY’S VERSE
“Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck. Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can’t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me. I am exhausted from crying for help; my throat is parched. My eyes are swollen with weeping, waiting for my God to help me.” –  “Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged. For the LORD hears the cries of the needy.”
Psalms 69: 1-3, 32-33 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
We all go through struggles and hard times. Life is not fair. There are times of sadness, despair and regret. The Psalmist paints a picture of someone trapped in an emotional downward spiral. Everything seems overwhelming and yet in the end they were able to say that there is encouragement in seeking God’s help. Why? Because God hears us. In the book, “Living From The Heart Jesus Gave You” the authors talk of two types of trauma that brings the kind of despair that we read in today’s passage. There is the trauma of “not getting what we need” and then there is the trauma of “getting something that we should have never received.” The first is the result of neglect and abandonment, the second from abuse. But the good news is that God hears us in our despair and He can help us. The authors write, “Life brings each of us inescapable traumas that block maturity. God’s redemptive activity comes to us in two ways: He brings healing to our traumas, and adopts us into His family. Both ways boost us through our blocks to maturity, along the way to wholeness, With these boosts, we will be able to live from the hearts He gave us, our true identities will emerge, and our relationships with family and community will be characterized by joy.” Today, praise God for His healing. It is there for you as you bring your pain to Him. Also, praise God for His family. It is through the fellowship and love from each other that we are made whole and can experience the joy He has for us. 

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for hearing my cries. Thank You for Your desire to heal me from my traumas. Thank You for making me part of Your family where I can experience the love and fellowship that will bring me into maturity. I commit myself to You for my complete healing. In Jesus’ name.
