Abide In Christ

TODAY’S VERSE
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:4-5 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I love the word abide. It connotes a deep relationship. It’s more than a casual waiting. It is to dwell with or be on a sojourn with somebody. In today’s passage, Jesus invites us to an intimate fellowship with Him. He wants us to abide in Him, and at the same time, He wants to abide in us. It is this divine symbiosis that creates God’s fruit in our life. As we abide in Him, His life force abides in us. It is His Spirit and His power that produces His fruit. Now, I can understand why we would want to abide in God, but what amazes me is that God is the prime mover. It is Jesus giving the invitation. God deeply desires this kind of relationship with us. Oh, that we would accept His invitation, open our hearts, and begin to fellowship with Him. Today, choose to abide in Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank you that the Holy Spirit abides in me. Help me to abide in You. Help me to earnestly fellowship with You, to spend time in Your word, and soak in Your fellowship. Help me to hear Your voice and to bear Your fruit. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Remain In The Vine

TODAY’S VERSE
Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Remain. What a word. In this context, it means to be grafted in. Jesus used the illustration of a vine. God takes us who are separated from Him and makes us His own. We belong to Christ. We are grafted into His forever family. Grafting means that we get our identity from the vine. We are part of the vine now and bear the fruit of the vine. We also get our life source from the vine. Paul spoke about this relationship with Christ, saying, “For in him we live, and move, and have our being.” But it is more than just being part of the vine. It is possible to be a dead branch and still be attached. Jesus also meant for us to stay or remain with Him. It is living a life of faith that is dependent on Him every day after day. It is a living connection with Christ, enduring to the very end. God has called us to worship, fellowship, and obedience to our Lord and Savior. If we do this, Jesus promises that we will bear much fruit. For what Christ said is true, “Apart from me you can do nothing.” Today, remain in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, it is so true; I can do nothing apart from you. In You, I do live and have my being. Thank You for making Your own. Help me to remain connected, drawing my strength, hope, and faith from You.
AMEN

Believe

TODAY’S VERSE
So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Romans 5:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There comes a time when you must choose whether or not you are going to believe. There are many things that you can strive for in life. There are many goals you can live for. There are many lofty positions you can aspire to. But in all your striving, there is one most important attribute you dare not ignore. God has created you to be more than a creation. He has created you to be His friend. Do you believe this? As hard as that can be to grasp, it is true. God will even help you understand it more thoroughly if you let Him. He gave you the Holy Spirit to fill your heart with His love. So today, you need to listen to His voice. Let today’s verse penetrate your heart. “So now you can rejoice in your wonderful new relationship with God because the Lord Jesus Christ has made you a friend of God.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, creator of all things, Almighty God, how thankful I am that You have called me Your friend. Holy Spirit, help me understand what this means. Please fill my heart with the knowledge of your love. Help me to know and rejoice in this new relationship with You.
Amen

Endurance and Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we just have to wait. “Wait on the Lord” the scriptures say. But we do not have to wait without hope. We have the written word of God, which teaches us about endurance and is used by God to encourage us and give us hope. As we spend time with God and meditate on His scriptures, we will find that the Holy Spirit will guide us, direct us, and give us the peace and patience we need, just when we need it the most.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me study and meditate on Your word. Help it take root deep in my heart so I will have the endurance and hope I need to livea life that is pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Heart Confidence

TODAY’S VERSE
My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!
Psalms 108:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a difference between “my head being confident” and “my heart being confident.” This is where faith and relationship come in. We read scriptures with our heads, but we meditate with our hearts. We pray “nice” prayers with our heads, but we “cry out to God” with our hearts. We “tell” someone about the gospel with our heads, but we love them and plead for their soul with our hearts. And we know the “reasons for confidence” in God with our heads, but we “experience confidence” in God with our hearts. David knew this kind of confidence in God through his experiential faith. He had a relationship with the true and living God, resulting in true worship and adoration with all his heart. Today, ask God to reveal Himself to you in real and experiential ways. Let your confidence travel the twelve inches from your head to your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your presence in my life. Help me to know You better. Help me to be confident in Your love for me, not just in my head, but in my heart. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lord, Give Me More!

TODAY’S VERSE
May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
II Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life is a learning curve. The more you try something, the more challenging it becomes. Rock climbing a small wall takes little skill and strength but as you attempt more challenging climbs, your need for skill and strength increases. Likewise in our Christian walk, the longer we live, the more relationships we have with all their complexities. The more responsibilities we have with their ever increasing demands. The more challenging life becomes, the more grace and peace we need. The more we need spiritual knowledge about God. Today ask God for more. Ask Him for more grace. Ask Him for more peace. Ask Him to increase your knowledge and understanding of who He is. Might your prayer be, “More Lord, give me more.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need more. I need more of Your grace. I need more of Your peace. I need more knowledge of who You are and what Your will is for me. Help me, Lord, as I earnestly seek You. I desire more.
AMEN

Are You Conscious Of God’s Presence?

TODAY’S VERSE
And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!
Psalms 116:9 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I can only think of one thing greater than living in God’s presence. That is being “aware” that I am living in His presence! Have you ever been with someone, and they acted as if you were not even there? You were with them, but they were not with you. How often do we go through the day as if God did not exist? Full of self-sufficiency, we make our plans and schedules and live out our days without a conscious need for His presence. Oh, the occasional prayer, perhaps a devotional reading, and even Christian music on the radio, but really walking in His presence? How often, when we pray, we say, “Lord, we come into your presence” as if His presence was somewhere outside of our realm of daily existence? Perhaps we really meant, “Lord, I am making a deliberate choice to focus on your presence.” But how much better if we stay focused on God and converse with Him? Walking in His presence means He is with us, and we know it. It means we respond to Him all the time. Today, stop and realize He is with you right now. You are in His presence, and He desires to have a relationship with you throughout the day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, help me to realize that I am always in Your presence. Help me, through the power of the Holy Spirit, commune with You and fellowship with You throughout this day. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
AMEN

Grace and Power

TODAY’S VERSE
Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed amazing miracles and signs among the people.
Acts 6:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If given a choice, which would you rather be filled with? God’s grace or God’s power? At first, it seemed obvious that I would choose God’s power. His mighty power can do more than we could ever imagine. With this power, Stephen did amazing miracles and signs among the people. Oh God, fill me with Your power! But upon second thought, what good is the power of God without His grace? His grace is what guides the power. It is His grace that forgives, sets free, and loves. It is very possible to know about God’s power and grace and not live for His glory. However, if I were filled with God’s almighty grace, I am convinced His power would follow. Grace is the power of God to change lives. Grace is the power of love. Grace is the vessel that God’s power chooses to flow through. So today, let us pray that God would fill us with His grace so His power will work through us in amazing miracles and signs.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Jesus, fill me with Your grace. Not a small part of me, all of me. Help me be completely led by Your grace. I pray that Your power, led by Your grace, would flow through me to those in need. Lord, You did it in the early church. Bring revival again today. Rain down your grace and power, I pray. Begin it in me.
AMEN

Trusting God

TODAY’S VERSE
The LORD forbid that I should do this to my lord the king and attack the LORD’s anointed one, for the LORD himself has chosen him.
I Samuel 24:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I am amazed at David’s faith and trust in God. To me, this is one of the most amazing stories in the Bible. Here was David running from King Saul, hiding in caves, and when the opportunity presented itself and King Saul went alone into the same cave David and his men were staying in, David did not attack the King. Even after his men, his faithful comrades who were with him through all his struggles saw this as a gift from God and beseeched David to strike Saul dead, all David did was cut a piece of the hem from Saul’s robe when Saul wasn’t looking. When asked why he did not kill Saul, David replied, “The Lord forbid that I should do this to my lord the king and attack the Lord’s anointed one, for the Lord himself has chosen him.” David trusted God. He knew that God allowed Saul to be King, and without word from God, David would not take justice into His own hands. He trusted God to work it all out. That kind of faith takes courage. It takes a deep belief in the love of God. It takes a personal belief in God’s provision in God’s own time. That is the kind of faith David had. When circumstances come our way that challenge us deep to the core, might God help us have that kind of faith, too.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want a deep faith like David. Help me know You more deeply and personally so I, too, will choose to trust You in my struggles.
AMEN

He Lives

TODAY’S VERSE
The Lord lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted!
Psalms 18:46 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an excellent proclamation. What a felt reality. I can hear David proclaiming, “The Lord Lives!” And why not? He had spent His whole life trusting God. He trusted God when a bear and wild animals attacked him as a shepherd. He trusted God when he slew Goliath. He trusted God when being pursued by Saul. God delivered from them all, so he starts this Psalm by saying, “I love you, Lord!” He then gives the reason for his exuberance. He writes, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.” His proclamation was similar to Peter’s revelation when Jesus asked Peter, “What about you? Who do you say I am?” Peter answered Jesus, saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Our God is alive. Christ rose from the dead. Let it stir your soul! A famous hymn says it best, “I serve a risen Savior; He’s in the world today. I know that He is risen no matter what man may say. I see His hand of mercy, I hear His voice of cheer, And just the time I need Him, He’s always near. He lives! He lives! Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way. He lives! He lives! Salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart!” Today, rejoice that the Lord lives!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, how I praise You for Your resurrection. How I praise You that You are alive in my life. Thank You that I can put all my trust in You. I love You, my Lord and my Savior.
AMEN
