Sing

TODAY’S VERSE
“He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the LORD.”
Psalms 40:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can tell people about God or we can tell them about the God that has made a difference in our life! As we come to know Christ the more He will put a song in our heart. A song, like the Psalmist says, that will cause people to see what God has done and amaze them. More that that, they will trust in God for their own needs. This is what happened to the small town where a woman came to a well that Jesus was at. After she met Jesus and He gave her hope, she ran home and told everyone, “Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.” The Bible records that the many of the people came from the town to meet Jesus. Many trusted in Him as their Savior. People today are dying for lack of a genuine song, a song that will meet the deepest needs of their soul. God has called you and I to sing. When we do, other people just like us, will put their trust in the Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for the song You have put in my heart. Help me sing! Help me share with others all the wonderful things You have done for me.
AMEN

Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. – I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”
John 15:9-12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We were born with joy! So often we think joy is the result of our circumstances. If we behave, if we are lucky, if everything works out right, then there will be joy. But joy goes much deeper than that. Events and circumstances can make us happy or sad, but can they give us true long lasting joy? The kind of joy that isn’t dependent on what we do? No. But Jesus can. Listen to the words that He says to you, “I have loved you like my Father loves me.” And that love was from the time He chose to create you. Unconditional, irrevocable, love from God Himself. Today, let the thought of God’s love poured out for you on the cross of Calvary bring wonder. Let the image of almighty God looking at you with pleasure, love and acceptance warm your heart. Hear the words of Jesus, “I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy!” Today, let His joy overflow in your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, overflow my heart with Your joy. The joy that comes from knowing that You love me. From believing that there is nothing I could ever do to earn or lose your love. You love me because You chose to. It is finished and I am left with deep, deep joy.
AMEN

Meditating On God

TODAY’S VERSE
“You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wing.”
Psalms 63:5-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What brings you joy? What makes you sing and praise? What do you spend time thinking about? There are a lot of things that you could answer. Certainly the love of someone can cause you to act this way. A sense of deep purpose can cause a similar passion within you. A national championship after a long grueling season has had this kind of effect on millions of people. Here is the question though. Does God have this effect on you? It is possible to know all about God, all about worship, ritual and doctrine and not truly be passionate about Him? How can we, if we don’t have a deep relationship with Him? To me, the part of this passage that makes all the difference in the world is not “praising with songs of joy”, or “sing for joy in the shadow of your wing”. No, it is, “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” If we want to really know God, then we must take time to meditate and sit in His presence. We need to shut everything else out and get to know God and hear His voice. When we do this, we will be able to say with David, “You satisfy me more than the richest feast, I will praise you with songs of joy!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You today longing to know You. As I spend time with You, I pray that You would reveal Yourself to me. Help me worship and praise You in Spirit and in truth.
AMEN

Contentment

TODAY’S VERSE
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”’
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Some things are better than gold! Who of us hasn’t dreamed of being rich beyond our imagination? It is the dream that is portrayed over and over again on television, in the movies and the pages of books throughout the world. Money, fame, power; these seem to be the things that so many strive for. And yet today’s passage proclaims loud and clear just the opposite. It tells us to live our lives “free from the love of money and be content with what we have.” Why would the author suggest that? Why would anyone write something so contrary to human reasoning unless it is true or he has something better to offer? In this case the author of Hebrews has both. He was telling the truth. When all is said and done, contentment, peace, joy and love are the true treasures of life. Money can help with this, but the “love of money” is something else. It is an addiction, an unreasonable, irrational obsession with something that gives false hope. Drugs never satisfy long-term, neither will the love of money. When will you ever have enough? When will you ever be able to say “no” to the irrational obsession that the love of money creates? So what does the author suggest we really seek after? Jesus Himself. It is Jesus who promises to never leave us, to never forsake us. He is the one who can really fill our heart with love, give us the purpose, peace and satisfaction that we were created for. It is Jesus that your soul is looking for. Today, turn to Him. Bring your longings to Jesus and let Him begin to satisfy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me. Thank You that You will never leave me or forsake me. Thank You for giving me everything I need to be content in this world. I accept You as the Lord of my life and dedicate myself to following You.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.”
Psalms 40:17 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Every once in a while we need comfort don’t we? The news is worst than we thought, the pain is overwhelming, the pressure is tough, the fearful thoughts are relentless. What are we to do? The Psalmist remembers God. We should too. We should remember that God thinks of us. He is our help and deliverer and even though we are poor and needy, God’s hand can still extend to our aid. In II Corinthians 1:3-5 Paul writes, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” Do you know God as your merciful Father? You can today. Come to Him, let Him comfort you. He knows your need, He will be your help and deliverer. And when He does comfort you, you can go and comfort others in the same way God comforted you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You, poor and needy. Help me today. Comfort me and help me comfort someone else in the same way You did me.
AMEN

Praise God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.”
Psalms 145:3 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I don’t praise the Lord enough. How easily I forget. I become so familiar with Him that I take His presence for granted. Worst, I get so embroiled in my own drama that I don’t take the time to consider God. One part of me agrees with the Psalmist, I can’t begin to fathom the greatness of God. But what kind of excuse is that? Who said anything about fathoming all of God’s greatness? I am talking about appreciation for the little I do know. I am suggesting that I could do something about knowing God much better than I do right now and perhaps that would result in a better spirit of praise and worship. Today, let’s start with what the Psalmist has said. The Lord is indeed GREAT. He is awesome, all powerful and mighty, much more so than we can imagine! With that said, let us praise Him for who He is. Let us thank Him that He is even mindful of us. And let us commit ourselves to knowing Him better and better. Why? Because He is worthy of all our praise!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Today, Father, I come to praise You. I praise You for Your greatness. I praise You for Your majesty. I praise You for Your awesome power. Worthy are You Lord to receive all my praise.
AMEN

In His Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. – I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow!”
John 15:9,11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
This was one of the most passionate speeches of Jesus Christ. He is before His disciples and encourages them to “abide” in Him. He uses the illustration of a vine and a branch. The branch is alive because it is connected to the vine. The vine is the source of life and as long as the branch “abides” or “remains” connected to the vine it will thrive. Jesus wanted the same for us. He comes and assures us, “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me.” How powerful is this? Jesus loves us in the same way that God the Father loved Him. What a supernatural love, and it is ours. And what does Jesus ask of us? He asks that we remain in His love. Can you imagine being at an exotic resort, basking in the sun, totally relaxed, enjoying the wind and the surf and the owner gives you the key to the place and says, “Remain here!” Jesus is saying, “I love you just like God the Father loves me and I want you to enjoy, bask in and take advantage of all the love I have for you!” And with this love comes a supernatural joy. A joy that completely fills our being until it overflows. So today, think of your connection to Jesus Christ. Sense all the love He has for you and then rejoice. Let yourself overflow with His joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for Your love. I realize that You are the vine and I am a branch. Today, help me remain in You. Help me get all the love I need from my connection with You. As I remain in Your love, fill me with Your joy.
AMEN

Options

TODAY’S VERSE
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When things go bad, plans fail, sickness comes, and the economy tanks, there are options. You could despair, get angry, quit or curse God. You could deny what happened or blame others. You could get depressed, despondent or anxious. Or you could listen to what Paul suggests. He gives us three choices. He writes that you can choose to be joyful, patient and faithful. You can choose to be joyful because you have hope. Hope is the equalizer. It is the force behind miracles. Before faith, there is hope. You can choose hope and all the joy it brings. You could also choose to be patient. In the midst of your predicament you can reserve judgment, defer decisions, wait action. You can choose to be patience and trust in God. Or you can pray. Not just a prayer but a mindset. A trust, an obedience, a dialog with God. No matter what, you pray. You trust, you cry out – you can choose to be faithful in prayer. So today, when the opportunity presents itself, choose to be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me to trust You more. Help me to be joyful in the hope that You give me. Help me to be patient with the problems I find myself in. Help me pray faithfully, trusting in Your power and love.
AMEN

Renew Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. – Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”
II Corinthians 4:8,9,16 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What are you going to do today? What’s on your list? It is hard to get everything done when we are stressed and under the gun. But what about those things that never made your list? How will they ever have a chance? Paul knew what it was like to have struggles. He had a lot to do. A lot of churches looked to him for leadership. He was concerned about all the new converts and whether they were getting the right teachings. On top of all that, Paul had much contention and hardships as he ministered. He said that he was, hard pressed, perplexed, persecuted, and struck down. It would have been horrible to work under these conditions except for one thing. And Paul had it on his list of things to do. He took the time to be inwardly renewed every day! Look at what he wrote, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” Paul took the time to get to know God. He allowed the Holy Spirit to minister to him. He came to God and did not leave until the work of renewing was done. It was on the top of his list of things to do. Is it on yours? Today, find some time to let God minister to you. Be purposeful and deliberate in getting to know God and He will renew you day by day.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I come to You today and ask You to renew me. Renew my thoughts, renew my attitudes, renew my passion. Fill me, guide me, direct my path. Renew me today I pray.
AMEN

All My Praise

TODAY’S VERSE
“Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.”
Psalms 36:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What do you praise God for? In just a verse and a half, David gives us four reasons to worship God with thanksgiving. First, God’s love for you is unfailing and as vast as the heavens. His love will never fail. Second, His faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Not only does God love you, you can count on Him to be there for you. Not just there but His righteousness is like a mighty mountain. You can count on Him to be righteous on your behalf. His love always has your best in mind. Finally, Gods love is just. God is not like man. There is no sense of unfairness with God. He is just. He will act on your behalf against injustice. Put these together and there is reason to praise. There is reason to worship God and all the unfailing, faithful, righteous and just love He has for you. Praise Him today!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I don’t understand everything that goes on in life, but this I can count on. You have an unfailing love for me that is faithful, righteous and just. For that I am deeply thankful and give You all my praise!
AMEN
