You’re Valuable

TODAY’S VERSE
“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
Matthew 10:28-31 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
We are valuable to God! Why is it that I wrestle with that so much? Why can’t I accept the fact that God’s love defines my value, not my performance, material belongings or status? I have value because God says I do! It is the lack of believing in our value that causes us to create a false self. In “The Deeper Journey”, M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “As our false self manages our life, we fear that we might not be valued. If our false self’s identity is rooted in our performance, then our value must be rooted in how well we perform. – To the extent our false self guides our life, we fear others. Life with others is a constant threat to our false self. – Others are constant threats to that fragile structure we have created to provide ourselves with identity, meaning, value and purpose.” Jesus came to declare how valuable we are. He would not have wasted His life and died the horrible death He did for something of little value. No, He came to redeem the most valuable thing to Him in the whole universe, the human race. Today, know that you are loved by God. Know that you are valued by Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that You love me and created me with value. Might the thought that I am valuable to You change my life today and set me free from the fear and bondage of trying to earn Your love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Love Others

TODAY’S VERSE
“While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and ‘sinners’ came and ate with him and his disciples.”
Matthew 9:10 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
So often we forget that God loves all of mankind. Jesus came and exemplified this. We get so caught up in our Churches, small groups and Bible studies that we can’t remember how to relate to everyday normal people. Jesus expects us to be good neighbors. He desires that we share His love with those that don’t know what it is like. The Pharisees did not get it. They were offended that He ate with “sinners.” In response to their distain Jesus said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” There are people all around us in need. Broken hearts, addictions, depressed, lonely, angry, poor, hungry. Wonderful people needing someone to stop and show mercy and love. Someone to invite them in and eat with them.  Someone to be their friend. God has called you and I to be that someone. Today let Jesus love someone through you. Look around and ask God who He wants you to befriend.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your mercy in my life. Help me go and give the same to others. Help me love others the way You do. Open my eyes to see those around me the way You do. Help me Lord to love like You do. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

What Spirit Do You Have?

TODAY’S  VERSE
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
II Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
What attitude are we letting control our life? With the rise in crime, a faltering economy and a tight job market it is easy to let fear, doubt, and insecurity fill our hearts. When we do, we find our self paralyzed, not able to live by faith, stepping out to trust God. It was the same way in Paul’s time. There was poverty, persecution, sickness and government unrest. It would have been easy for the churches to be gripped by fear, but Paul insisted that they had another choice. Why? Because of God! God makes the difference. It is God that gives us power, love and self-discipline. What a combination. Is there any combination that is stronger? God gives us His power. This is an unlimited source of strength for what ever we set out to do. Then He adds to it love. This is perhaps the greatest force in the universe. People armed with love can overcome any odds. Finally, God has given us the ability to be disciplined in doing His will. With our consistent disciplined use of His power and love what should we be afraid of? Today, put off any fear and timidity and let God’s power and love guide your journey.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear or timidity. Instead Lord, You have given me power, love and self-discipline. How I thank You and praise You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Peace To You

TODAY’S VERSE
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.”
Psalms 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
The Bible is full of the message of peace. It is God’s will that we live in peace. Now peace can be a relative term. Some would limit it to a “peaceful situation”. Yet many people live in a safe and friendly environment, yet live in desperation. The kind of peace that the Bible emphasizes most is a state of mind. It is the inward peace that comes from knowing God is sovereign and that we can trust Him. It is the ability to delay gratification, solutions, answers or understanding and substitute it with hope, trust and faith in God’s ultimate goodness and love for us. So today, choose peace. May peace fill your day and take you through the night.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask for You to flood my heart and my soul with Your peace. Today, may I sense You love and presence and rest myself in You.
AMEN

What Do You Want?

TODAY’S VERSE
“What do you want me to do for you?”
Mark 10:51 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
This was one of the first passages I ever preached on. I was a teenager giving a gospel message. I remember still to this day the impact this simple passage had on me. Here was this blind man sitting by the road and he hears that Jesus was coming by. Nothing could shut him up. He started shouting out to Jesus. The disciples tried to make him quiet down, but Jesus tells them to bring the man to Him. I love what happens next. Jesus looks at him and says to the blind man, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man simply answers, “I want to see.” What appealed to me then as a teenager still appeals to me forty years later. It is the sincerity of Jesus and the invitation of His question to tell Him what it is that we want. This is the same Jesus that we pray to. It is the same heart of Christ that bids us come to Him. It is the same power available that asks such an open-ended question. Today, see Him passing your way. Take the time to sit before Him and answer His question, “What do you want me to do for you?”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Jesus, I thank You for coming my way today. I thank You that You care so much for me that You would ask me what I need from You. I hear You say, “What do you want me to do?” I come silently before You and whisper my request. – Thank You, Lord, for hearing the desire of my heart.
AMEN

Complete Joy

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
John 15:11 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
God created us for joy! And where does joy come from?  Jesus said, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you.” What was it that He told us? The answer lies in the preceding verse.  It says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” Jesus said that His joy would be in us and that our joy would be complete as a direct result of the love He and our heavenly Father has for us. Our joy comes from knowing this love in a personal way. It comes from the fact that God is very, very glad to be with us. As the Psalmist suggests, we can come into God’s presence with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise! Why? Because He loves us unconditionally and has bonded with us in a way that gives us true, deep down joy. Today, don’t accept some mediocre joy. Instead, meditate on the love that God has for you and let it move you deep in your soul. Today, ask God to fill you with joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating me for joy. Help me to know the extent of Your love and how happy You are to call me Your own so that my joy will be full.
AMEN

Kindness

TODAY’S VERSE
“But the fruit of the Spirit is – kindness”
Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
Luke 6:31 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Kindness is not an option. It is not something we can decide to do only if it is convenient. It is evidence of the Holy Spirit alive in our life. Jesus instructed us to behave toward others in the same way we want them to behave toward us. When have we ever turned away kindness? Paul admonishes us to esteem others better than our self. Kindness is love in action. I have seen family members say they love each other, but don’t act kind toward each other. I have seen churches where kindness to each other is a rarity. You can be kind to someone without loving them, but you can’t love someone and continually refuse to be kind to them. Today, purpose in your heart to be kind to those around you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, kindness can make such a difference in someone’s life. Help me today to be Your ambassador of kindness to all those I come in contact with.
AMEN

Know Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.”
II Peter 1:2 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Are you growing in your knowledge of Jesus Christ? Have you been spending time reading the Bible in order to know what Christ’s agenda is? Have you examined His life in order to follow His example? Do you have a heart knowledge of Christ? Do you spend time in His presence? Do you know how He feels about you? Do you see life, with all its people and situations, with the eyes of Christ? God’s design was that you have more than a superficial knowledge of Christ. It is His desire that you grow in what you know and experience of Christ. As you do, you will have more and more peace in your life. You will understand more and more about the unending grace that He has for you. Today, spend time and get to know Christ better. Learn about Him as you learn from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me to know You better and better. Help me learn more about Your desires and passions. Help me know Your love, grace and peace. Teach me, guide me, instruct me I pray. Help me grow more and more in You.
AMEN

Forgiveness

TODAY’S VERSE
“But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.”
Mark 11:25 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Forgiveness can be difficult. It is so hard to forgive some of the offences against us. But we must remember that forgiveness is a very important part of our spirituality. We go to church, we pray, we read the scriptures. This is all good, but Jesus is making it clear, the true test for real Christianity is to forgive others. That is because all of Christianity is built on forgiveness. Where would we be without the forgiveness of Christ? In “Steps To Freedom In Christ”, Neil Anderson shares the following six important elements to forgiveness. 1. Forgiveness is not forgetting rather forgetting is a long-term by-product of forgiveness. 2. Forgiveness is a choice, a decision of the will. We can’t wait until we feel like forgiving or roots of bitterness could begin to fester in our heart. 3. Forgiveness is agreeing to live with the consequences of another person’s sin. Do we have a choice? The only thing we can choose is whether we will live with the consequences in the freedom of forgiveness or the bondage of bitterness. 4. We forgive from our heart. It is not a head exercise. It is a painful awareness of what we are forgiving and an emotional choice to forgive the way Christ forgives. 5. Forgiveness is choosing not to hold someone’s sin against him or her anymore. This is really hard. We want to hold on to bitterness and anger, but that is not forgiveness. We must give the situation back to God and let go. Let God deal with those who have hurt us. 6. Finally, do not wait until you feel like forgiving. If you do, you will never get there. Make a hard choice to forgive, even when you don’t feel like it. Today, let go of the unforgiveness that is eating you up inside. Choose to follow God and let Him help you forgive.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You know the pain I harbor in my heart. Forgiveness seems so far from my grasp, yet I know that You have commanded me to forgive. Help me to forgive those who have offended me like You have so graciously forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Lies

TODAY’S VERSE
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Does it seem hard to believe some of the Scriptures? We read today’s passage and if we listen closely, we can hear an inner dialog start to deny whether it is true or not. It may be, “Why should God help me?” “God didn’t help me last time.” It could be a muffle sound from a deeper level saying, “I don’t deserve His help.” “It will never work out.” These are lies that keep us from believing the truth of God’s love for us. I wish I could simply say, “Hey, stop believing a lie and believe the truth” and everything will work out. But it isn’t that easy. You see, lies often serve a purpose and until the need for the lie is taken care of, we will keep lying to ourself. If I am hurting because of a trauma I experienced, then simply pointing out the lies I believe will not change anything. I need Jesus to help heal the pain from my trauma, then I will be free to destroy the lie. We need to get beyond the lie that God will never help me and ask, “What happened that I feel that way?” Bring that pain to God, ask Him to heal your pain and then you will find the ability to believe the truth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am often hampered by lies I choose to believe instead of believing Your word. I have wounds, hurts, scars that have left me believing the wrong things. I need you to heal me. Lord, come visit my pain. Speak truth to my heart. Heal me. Set me free to believe the truth of Your love for me. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN
