The Joy Of His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”
Psalms 16:11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How do you look at your relationship with God? Is it drudgery? Is your Christian experience legalistic, nothing more than an empty ritual? Perhaps your spiritual life is hap hazard at best, a hit or miss with your devotional life. It begs the questions, “How do we get a vibrant, meaningful, life-changing Christian experience? David knew the answer. He knew that the way we receive the pleasures of living with God is by having Him show us the way of life. It is spending time with God and living in the “joy of His presence” that we learn true happiness. We were made for fellowship with God and nothing else will satisfy that longing in our heart. He has the “peace that passes all understanding.” He is the one whose essence is love. He is the one who knows us intimately and can meet our every need. He is the one who “fills us with His Spirit.” Come to Him today. Let Him show you the way of life, granting you the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You that You know me and have everything I need to live a happy and fulfilled life. Please fill me with Your Spirit. Show me the way of life and grant me the joy of being in Your presence.
AMEN

Don’t Worry

TODAY’S VERSE
“Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Romans 12:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Jesus warned us, “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.” Life is, well life. It comes with all the ups and downs. But we must remember what Jesus said next. He said, “But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” What comfort. This is why Paul could write to the church in Rome to rejoice in their hope. But not just a half hearted hope. He said a hope that is confident in its outcome. With this confidence we can also be “patient in trouble.”  We would rather avoid trouble, but that doesn’t work. Jesus said to take heart or as some translate it, “be of good cheer.” That is the kind of patience Paul was talking about. It comes out of the awareness that God is there and that He cares. That is why Paul finishes his instructions with, “Keep on praying.” God is greater than our worries. Today, when troubles come, be confident in your hope. Be patient and talk to God about your problems. He will guide you. He will comfort, He will give you strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You that when troubles come, I can come near to You. I can be confident in my hope that You care, and will guide me and help me. Help me today to be patient and bring every worry to You. In Jesus name.
AMEN

Do You Not Know?

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
At first glance you can read today’s passage and think that the author is asking a rhetorical question. Who hasn’t heard that the Lord God of the Universe is the everlasting God, creator of the ends of the earth? If you were going to believe in a God, wouldn’t you want one all-powerful? Yes, no doubt He would be the everlasting creator, who never tires and has understanding that is beyond our comprehension. But to be complete in your comprehension of God you would need to know that our God is also compassionate to those in need, giving strength to the weary and helping those that are weak. It is this almighty compassionate God that Isaiah is asking about. He says, “Do you not know? Have you not heard?” Otherwise, have you let the reality of this God change your life? It is by hoping in the LORD that you will renew your strength. Trusting in God will cause you to soar on wings like eagles. In fact, Isaiah writes that you will run and not grow weary; you will walk and not be faint. Does this sound like the God you believe in? Today put your faith and trust in our everlasting God, the creator of the earth.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear God, how I praise You for Your majesty. You are everlasting, the creator of the earth. Thank You for caring for me. Praise You for the way You strengthen me. Today be merciful to me. In your compassionate power, help me run and not grow weary, help me walk and not faint.
AMEN

A Friend Of God

TODAY’S VERSE
“You were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has brought  you back as His friends. He has done this through his death on the cross in his own human body. As a result, he has brought you into the very presence of God, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.”
Colossians 1:21-22 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What you believe about yourself is key to the way you live. What you believe God thinks about you can make all the difference in the world. That is why Paul wrote his letter to the Colossian church. He wanted them to know who they were. He starts out reminding them that they were the very enemies of God, separated by their evil thoughts and actions. But just as quick, he shares that God, through the death of Christ on the cross, has now accepted them as friends. This gives them the right to come into His very presence as a holy and blameless individual. In their book “TrueFaced” the authors say it this way, “As a maturing Christian, I no longer define myself by my sin or the sin committed against me, but by who God declared me to be.” And what has God declared about you? He has declared, because of Christ and your personal faith in Him, that you are His friend. Today, let this reality sink deep into your heart. Let it fill you with joy and peace as you live for Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for declaring me as Your friend. Thank You that through the death and resurrection of Christ, Your son, I am Your child, completely loved and forgiven of all my sins. Help me to live in this reality.
AMEN

Thinking

TODAY’S VERSE
“Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”
Romans 8:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
“What were you thinking?” Have you ever had anyone ask you that? Usually it’s after something goes wrong. There was a misjudgment and your thinking has been brought into question. Paul is suggesting that we need to be on guard about the way we think. What do we let dominate our mind? Paul suggests it is either the Spirit of God or our sinful nature. What a world of difference the two mindsets have on our life. The mind dominated with the sinful nature leads to sinful thinking and behavior resulting in spiritual death. However, if we let the Spirit of God control our mind, we will find ourself doing things that please the Spirit. This results in life and peace. Today, let your thinking be dominated with the Holy Spirit. Rebuke negative and sinful thinking. Say “No” to temptations and lust that will only lead you down the wrong road. Spend time thinking on God’s word. Pray and converse with God throughout the day. It is your mind; let the Spirit guide your thinking and you will find living for Him is what you were born for.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to live my life for You. Let Your Holy Spirit control my thinking. I give You my mind; guide me, direct me, lead me into Your will.
AMEN

Pour Out Your Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him.”
Psalms 62:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Ever have anyone tell you, “I can’t help you if you don’t tell me about it.” You know, you are distressed, you come to a friend and they can tell something is wrong. They ask you, “What is it?” and you say, “Nothing.” They want to help but can’t because you won’t engage with them. You won’t share what is bothering you. Isn’t that how we treat God? Sure we believe “in” Him, we just don’t believe Him. He says that He is all loving and all powerful. He says that we should cast all our cares on Him because He cares for us. He promised that He would never leave us or forsake us. Even if our mother forsakes us, He says, “I will never forget you.” And yet we don’t take the time to share our concerns with Him. He is not our confidant. We don’t “pour out our heart to Him.” Isn’t it time to change? Doesn’t your heart long for a close, loving relationship with God? You can have it. It’s yours if you want it. Everything can change. Today, begin a new fresh relationship with God. Come to Him. Trust Him. Spend time with God and pour out your heart. He is waiting.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess that I hurry through life and don’t take the time to pour out my heart to You. I do so much on my own. But Father, I want that to change. I long for a deeper walk with You. Help me today to trust more. Help me sense Your loving presence and share with You from the depths of my heart.
AMEN

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.”
Psalms 56:13 (NLT)

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
Psalms 139:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what it would have been to be Adam and Eve? They had a personal relationship with God. They met with Him every day and lived in His presence. Though they disobeyed God and changed the world forever, we still have an opportunity to fellowship with God. David knew this. As a Shepherd boy he would spend his nights under the stars and sing to God. As he grew, he became “a man after God’s own heart.” David knew what it meant to walk with God. He admitted, “Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.” He came to the realization that there was no where he could go, no situation he could be in that would take Him outside of God’s presence. We too can have that same reality. God bids us to come and fellowship with Him. He desires for us to live in His life-giving light. Today, stop and realize that you are in the very presence of God. Better yet, remind yourself that His presence lives in you! Rejoice and walk with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your abiding presence. Thank You that there is no where I can go that You will not be there. Thank You that I can walk in Your presence and I choose to do so. I choose today to walk in Your life-giving light.
AMEN

The Lord Bless You

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often we put the emphasis on us “following” God when we would be better off “responding” to God. We worry so much about how to love God when we all we really need to do is truly understand His love for us. If we really knew what today’s verse really meant how could loving God ever be an issue? How could we ever be worried about following Him? But do we really believe that God desires to bless us and keep us? Do we see God as a loving God that turns His face toward us with such a focus that it is as His face is shining right on us? It is this daunting attention from our loving God that causes us to love Him. It is this knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that His intention is to bless us and keep us, to be gracious with us and give us peace that causes us to follow Him without reservation. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, said it best, “We love Him because He first loved us.” Today know that God has blessed you and kept you. Understand that He has turned His face toward you and has shined it upon you. Finally receive the peace that comes from knowing His unconditional love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your awareness of me. Thank You for shining Your face on me. Thank Your for turning Your face toward me and giving me peace. Today Lord, help me live in this reality.
AMEN

Trusting God

TODAY’S VERSE
“But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD.”
Psalms 73:28 (KJV)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverb 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We never seem to run out of opportunities to “trust” God. That doesn’t mean we actually choose to trust Him. In fact, if we were honest with ourself, we would admit that most of the time we choose to fear, run, hide, get mad, pout, strike out at others and a myriad of other reactions to the many stresses in our life. But this is not what God wants. God wants us to trust Him. Both David and his son, Solomon, knew this and shared their secret to trusting with us. David said that trusting is the result of drawing near to God. Trust is choosing to move from fear to faith. From anger to peace. From doubt to certainty. It is in moving toward God that we find trust. Solomon warned about depending on our own understanding and encouraged us to move toward God, seeking His will in everything that is going on. It is in “trusting God with all of our heart” that we find Him near, showing us which way to go. Today, when you find yourself in a quandary, stop! Draw near to God, seek His will and trust in Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I come to You, drawing as near as I can. Hear my heart. I come seeking Your will and will trust You with all my heart.
AMEN

Forgive

TODAY’S VERSE
“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much of life would be easier if we could forgive? Resentment, bitterness, rage, remorse, guilt, so many damaging toxic emotions can come out of an unforgiving heart. But it is hard to forgive. That is why we need to turn to Christ for help. When we do, He will gently show us His scars and remind us of how much we have been forgiven. He will remind us of His unconditional love and we will begin to find the strength we need to be more like Him. Mother Teresa knew what it was like to live a life of love and sacrifice. She wrote, “If we admit that we are sinners and we need forgiveness, then it will be very easy for us to forgive others. But if we don’t admit this, it will be very hard for us to say, ‘I forgive you’ no matter who comes to us.” Today remind yourself of God’s love and all that He has forgiven you of, and then go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, might Your love fill my heart and soul and give me all the strength and courage I need to forgive those that have hurt me. Help me today to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN
