Walk The Talk

TODAY’S VERSE
“But all they gave him was lip service; they lied to him with their tongues.”
Psalms 78:36 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to give “lip service”. How often do we do it in our relationships? We say, “I love you” and then treat the object of that love horribly. James writes, “Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, ‘Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well’—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?” Likewise, it is easy to praise God with our lips but dishonor Him with our lives. It is so easy to say, “We love you, Lord” and not do what He says. Praise God for our ability to repent and His grace to forgive. His mercies are new every morning and we can come to Him with a clean slate and live this new day in harmony between our lips and our heart. May it be so.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I know that there are so many times that I give you lip service only. I talk the talk but neglect to walk the walk. Forgive me for my hypocrisy. Oh Holy Spirit, help me live as Jesus lived, in Spirit and in truth.
AMEN

Comfort

TODAY’S VERSE
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Comfort is only as good as the source the comfort. What comfort is it for someone who is in the same situation you are, powerless themselves, to tell you, “It will be okay.”? The only way you would be comforted is if they point to a greater source than themselves and encourage you to take comfort in that source. The word comfort actually means to “come next to.” It wasn’t a mental comfort; it was an actual comfort coming from someone who had the power to comfort you. Like the police officer who says, “You are safe now.” The Doctor who says, “Your test came back negative, you will be okay.” Paul is encouraging the early church to be comforted by God Himself. He writes, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles.” Are you troubled today? Come next to God, let Him comfort you. Are you weary and don’t know what to do? Move toward God, lean upon Him, let Him wrap you in His arms. He will comfort you. Are you at the end of yourself, too frozen to move? Turn your head in His direction, whisper with your thoughts, He will hear you. He is the merciful Father and the source of all comfort. Today, come next to Him and be comforted.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am coming next to You. I need Your arms, I need Your face, I need Your voice. Comfort me, dear merciful Father of all comfort. Strengthen my arms, give courage to my legs, help my head lift up toward the light.  Here I am, comfort me I pray.
AMEN

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”’
Revelation 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is it about God’s Holiness that moves me so much? Holiness, I can’t comprehend it. I try to put my mind around it but it is too vast. I think what moves me when I sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty” is the fact that this Holy God allows me to adore Him, to worship Him. To be in His presence and sing about the very thing that would normally separate me from Him is so humbling. His majesty, His power, His might, His Holiness; who are we that He would allow us to sing His praise? And yet He desires our praise. He rejoices in our worship. He invites us to say with all of Heaven, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Today, worship Him. He is Holy. He is worthy of all our praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I adore You. How I worship You. Thank You for Your Holiness, majesty and power. Thank You for Your grace and love. Truly, You are worthy of all my praise.
AMEN

Praise God

TODAY’S VERSE
“Praise the LORD! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us celebrate, let us rejoice, let us give him the glory!”
Revelation 19:6-7 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
How excited are you about knowing God? You would think we would be ecstatic, but instead our joy is minimal. I have seen sports fan get more excited about their teams wining a championship than most churches do during worship. This is because in reality most of us only know about God. Sure, we have asked Him to be our Savior, but we haven’t taken the time to really know Him. We know nothing of His power, wisdom or glory. How then can we say with John, “The Lord our God, the Almighty reigns”? If we are going to celebrate God, if we are going to rejoice because of Him, then we need to know God in a deep and personal way. This will only happen if we spend time in His presence. In His presence He will reveal Himself to us. In His presence we will learn of His power, wisdom and His glory. In His presence we will learn to praise, celebrate and rejoice in Him. So today stop everything. Stop and for one moment enter His presence and consider who He is. Sense that He is the Almighty one. Feel how worthy He is of all our praise. For just a moment consider how great He is and then know this; He loves you! The Almighty One loves you, so go ahead, celebrate, rejoice and give Him the glory!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, forgive me for not appreciating You enough. You are the Almighty One and You reign on high. I rejoice that I know You and come to You with joy and celebration. You are worthy of all my praise and I give You all the glory.
AMEN
