Church Of Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“I am afraid that I will find quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly behavior.”
II Corinthians 12:20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What happened? Paul is concerned about the behavior of the church in Corinth. This is the same church that he wrote, “I am writing to God’s church in Corinth, to you who have been called by God to be his own holy people.” But the reality is, even though we are called to be His holy people, we are still a work in progress. There are no perfect people in the church. We sin. But it doesn’t mean we have to continue in sin. Here was a case where Paul was afraid that he would come to Corinth and find the church full of quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorderly behavior. So in his letter, Paul encouraged the people to examine themselves and repent of ungodly behavior. We need to do the same. We need to pray. We need to ask God to cleanse us of relational sin and help us to love one another. We need to ask God to fill our church with His Spirit. We need to call upon our Lord to help our church be an example of the way He lived. Today, pray for your church. Pray that together you would be a witness to your community of His love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come and pray for my church. I ask that You would fill us with Your Spirit. I pray that You would help us repent of sin and live the life of love that You have called us to. Help us to love one another and those in our community. Help us be the witness You have called us to be. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Help Others

TODAY’S VERSE
“Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:1-2 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So much of the sin in our life is due to our emotions. We get upset, worried, stressed and the emotional pain starts to build up. Instead of regulating our emotion and return to a more joyful or peaceful state of  mind, we let our anger, rage, depression, or sadness take over our behavior. This leads us to sin. The solution is found in our relationship with God and other close friends. It is the love, support and comfort that is able to tame our sinful behavior. It is in these deep relationships that we learn how to return to joy. Paul says that we should gently and humbly help a person return to sanity and stop their negative behavior. How? By sharing their burdens and pain. In using a kind word, a listening ear and a prayerful heart, your sincere help will keep a person from acting out on their negative emotions. Your empathy and love will help keep them from committing deep relational sins. Today ask God to help you share in someone else’s burden and restore them to a place of peace and joy.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me be there for other people. Help me share their burdens and gently bring them back to You. Thank You for Your grace and mercy extended to me. Help me do the same to others. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

I Am Coming

TODAY’S VERSE
“My heart has heard you say, ‘Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘LORD, I am coming.”’
Psalms 27:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christianity is not a religion, it is a relationship. It is a relationship with a loving God that desires to fellowship with us. This was His design since the beginning. David knew this. The Bible says of David that he was a man, “after God’s own heart.” But when you consider today’s passage perhaps it would be better to say that God was a “God after David’s own heart.” David’s heart heard God saying, “Come and talk with me.” Do you hear the same? Do you sense that God is seeking you, that He desires to know you and for you to get to know Him? It’s true. God really does desire your love and affection. He desires for you to worship Him, spend time with Him and to love Him. He is seeking you out. Today, say with David, “Lord I am coming.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I desire to know You and to be known by You. Help me today to hear Your voice say to me, “Come and talk with me.” Help me to sense Your presence and spend time with You. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

An Open Door

TODAY’S VERSE
“Open for me the gates where the righteous enter, and I will go in and thank the LORD. These gates lead to the presence of the LORD, and the godly enter there.”
Psalms 118:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
An open door can make all the difference in the world. How many times have you sought solutions, answers or any form of direction and nothing seems to appear? If only something would open up. And all the while God is there bidding us come to Him. But it’s not good enough to just have an open door. You must go in. The Psalmist understood this. He cried out to God to open the gates into His presence and when God did, he entered. He entered into the presence of God and fellowshipped with Him. It made all the difference. For us everyday is an opportunity to enter into the sweet presence of God. But it’s our choice. We can walk by or enter the door and spend time with Him. Today choose God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for opening the door for me to fellowship with You. Lead me into Your presence so I might know You more.
AMEN

In Your Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!”
Psalms 116:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift we have been given. He has asked us to walk in His presence. But it is our choice to make. We don’t have to be alone and alienated from God. We can choose to live with the awareness of His presence and build a real and vital relationship with Him. Or we can choose to only be conscious of Him while we are at church or in one of life’s crisis situations. Of course, we don’t have to walk with God at all. We can live without Him. We can spend all our time walking through this world never being conscious of His love for us. But why? Why go down that path at all? God has an incredible love for you. He desires for you to fellowship with Him. He is ready to share with you His very presence. You never have to walk alone. Today, commit yourself to Him. Ask Him to fill your heart and open your eyes to all that He is. He will. And then you can say with the Psalmist, “And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose to follow You. I want to be conscious of Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live in the awareness of Your love for me.
AMEN

Fellowship With Jesus

TODAY’S VERSE
“To you who have been called by God to be his own holy people. He made you holy by means of Christ Jesus. – God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”
I Corinthians 1:2(NLT), 9 (ESV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When you wake up in the morning, who do you think you are? What purpose do you have? You could say, “I’m a mother and need to get my children taken care of.” “An employee and need to get ready to work.” “A broker and need to make money in the market today.” “A retiree and I need to volunteer at the hospital.” A larger purpose may be a certain occupation like, “A police officer and I need to save lives.” While all of these are noble and certainly are worthy of expression, what I don’t find most of us doing is getting up in the morning with the realization that Paul was trying to make. In reality, you and I have every right to get up and say, “By God’s grace I am one of God’s holy people and I have been asked to fellowship with Christ today.” How would that affect the way we plan? What attitude would that give us? What joy would there be in our heart? We are a chosen people, chosen by God to live for Him. Jesus desires that we become consciously aware of His presence, actively involved in a dialog with Him. He wants to share in our joys and our sorrows, our victories and our defeats, our greatest pleasures and our most mundane tasks. Today, might we choose to fellowship with Him. Choose to include Him in your day. Share, pray, meditate, talk to Him. Today, might we really know what it means to be called into the fellowship of Jesus Christ our Lord.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your invitation to fellowship with You. Help me to appreciate and fully understand what that means. Help me today to begin to fellowship with You in more deep and meaningful ways. I pray in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Harmony

TODAY’S VERSE
“So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.”
Romans 14:19 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
You would think that the church would be the first place we would look for a group that is building each other up, but it’s not always the case. We can hurt each other just like any other group. It takes hard work to live in harmony. We come from so many diverse backgrounds with so many different temperaments, beliefs, emotions, assumptions, experiences and wounds that without concerted effort, it is impossible not to hurt each other. That is why Paul said to “aim” for harmony and to “try” to build each other up. It is not easy, but this wasn’t just some light hearted request. We must try. We must do all that we can to love each other as Christ would love us. As we submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He will produce in us the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Then we will begin to build each other up in ways that will result in harmony. So today ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, mold you and use you and let us aim for harmony and begin to build each other up.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Holy Spirit, I invite You to produce Your fruit in my life. I want to live in harmony with others and help build them up. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Real Love

TODAY’S VERSE
“Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
Romans 12:9-13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When Paul decided to write about love he didn’t mix words. Although First Corinthians Thirteen is perhaps the most famous passage Paul wrote on love and often quoted at weddings, today’s passage is just as good. He doesn’t mix words. He starts out and tells us to quit being phony in our love. Instead he writes that we are to really love each other. And then he tells us how. We are to hate what is wrong and do good to each other instead. We are to have a true genuine affection for each other and not fake it. And we don’t just honor each other because we have to but we should delight in honoring each other! The love Paul is writing about is not lazy. Instead real love serves each other. And what is love without encouragement? Paul, who knew real hardships, modeled encouraging love and asked us to do the same. We encourage by rejoicing in hope, being patient in trouble and praying when things aren’t going our way. Finally, when those we are suppose to love are in need than love insists that we help them. We should be eager to practice hospitality. Today, let’s commit ourselves to real love, the love Paul is writing about. Let us love those around us the way Christ would love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, help me love the way You love. Help me love in action not just words. Open my eyes to see opportunities to love, then open my heart to do it.
AMEN

God’s Co-worker

TODAY’S VERSE
“As God’s fellow workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.”
II Corinthians 6:1 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever considered yourself a co-worker with Christ? Paul did. But you say, “Paul was an apostle and I’m just a Christian.” Yes Paul was an Apostle and you are a Christian. But that still means that you were chosen before the foundation of the world to be co-heirs with Christ. It still means that God delights in your fellowship and desires to have you join Him in His work. You are His joy. He delights in you and part of that fellowship we have with Him is being a fellow worker with God. When we schedule our day we need to remember that we have heavenly priorities to consider. We have a higher calling than just living on this earth. We live for God on this earth. So today, look over your “to do” list and see if it reflects any “fellow worker with God” items. Remember, you are His ambassador, you are His co-worker, rejoice in that fact and live it to its fullest.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I am amazed that You would call me to be Your co-worker, but I humbly accept it. Help me to live for You. Help me to use all that I am and all that I have to be Your co-worker. Help me join with You today in bringing Your light into darkness and Your love to this earth.
AMEN

His Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.”
Psalms 56:13 (NLT)

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?”
Psalms 139:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered what it would have been to be Adam and Eve? They had a personal relationship with God. They met with Him every day and lived in His presence. Though they disobeyed God and changed the world forever, we still have an opportunity to fellowship with God. David knew this. As a Shepherd boy he would spend his nights under the stars and sing to God. As he grew, he became “a man after God’s own heart.” David knew what it meant to walk with God. He admitted, “Now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light.” He came to the realization that there was no where he could go, no situation he could be in that would take Him outside of God’s presence. We too can have that same reality. God bids us to come and fellowship with Him. He desires for us to live in His life-giving light. Today, stop and realize that you are in the very presence of God. Better yet, remind yourself that His presence lives in you! Rejoice and walk with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your abiding presence. Thank You that there is no where I can go that You will not be there. Thank You that I can walk in Your presence and I choose to do so. I choose today to walk in Your life-giving light.
AMEN
