Loved By God

TODAY’S VERSE
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for your alienation from God. When you came to God and repented of your rebellion to Him and accepted His gift of eternal life, you became His child. You were what Jesus called, “born-again!” This started you on a brand new life as a Christian, with a fresh relationship with God Almighty. As God’s child, the Bible is clear on the fact that you are loved by Him. This is the cornerstone of our Christian experience. Paul states it very clearly. He was emphatic that nothing can ever separate you from God’s love. In his book, “Abba’s Child”, Brennan Manning writes, “God created us for union with Himself: This is the original purpose of our lives. And God is defined as love (I John 4:16). Living in the awareness of our belovedness is the axis around which the Christian life revolves. Being the beloved is our identity, the core of our existence. It is not merely a lofty thought, an inspiring idea, or one name among many. It is the name by which God knows us and the way He relates to us.” If you believe nothing else today, believe this: God loves you! If you experience nothing else today, experience this: God loves you! If you let nothing else today bring you joy deep into your soul, get joy from this: God loves you! Nothing, nothing, nothing will ever be able to separate you from the love that God has for you!

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for Your love. And I thank You that You promised that nothing will ever separate me from Your love. I accept Your love today and pray that I would live from a heart of gratitude and joy that I am Your beloved.
AMEN

Alive

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Genesis 2:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When asked, a group of people who suffered with addictions, gave the answer to what they “felt” just before they gave into the craving of their addiction. What was the trigger, what was the deep painful impulse that was driving them? Some of the answers were, “worthlessness, lost, disconnection, lack of existence, invisible, bad, evil, void, abandoned, alone, powerless, wrong, not breathing, non being, humiliated, ashamed and unloved.” Then the same group was asked to visualize taking the drug and verbalize what the drug did for them. What was the promise, what was the relief? They wrote:
“self discovery, focus for my life, meaning, surrender, will, acceptance by group, feeling of being alive, freedom, acceptance of desire, living in the moment.” Now here is the catch. Although the desire for positive meaning is real, the lie is that drugs do not give them the solution. It only mocks it. It is like the song, “Looking for love in all the wrong places.” It is God that gives the “breath of life.” Jesus provides real meaning. The healing power of God and Christian fellowship is the answer to our deepest pain! God has created us for life. We are not supposed to go around feeling like a non-being. Instead Paul prays that we would have the power to understand how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Christ’s love for us is. It is in experiencing God’s love for us that we are made complete with all the “fullness of life and power that comes from God.” Today, let the love of Christ breathe life deep into your soul and make you alive.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I want to live, really live. Help me find true meaning and purpose in Your love for me. Fill me with Your life-giving breath. Fill me with Your Spirit and make me more alive today than I have ever been.
AMEN

Praising God

TODAY’S VERSE
“The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.”
Luke 2:20 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Does our worship produce more worship? The shepherds came to the manger and worshiped Jesus born as a baby. And then they returned home filled with even more worship and praise. Jesus was the Messiah, the hope of the world, and they were deeply moved by their time with Him. Today, we come week after week worshipping the same Jesus. They knew Him as a baby but we know Him as the Savior. We know the joy of sins forgiven. We know the power of a personal relationship with Jesus. Yet how do we return home week after week after spending time in corporate worship? How does our experience on Sunday extend into how we live and worship on Monday? What kind of Christian experience do we really have, or is our faith just a ritual, a religious practice? The shepherds experienced Jesus, and even as a baby, it changed their lives. They were never the same. Let Jesus do the same for you. Might your whole life be filled with the joy and wonder of His love for you. Today, glorify and praise God for all He has done.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Jesus, thank You for all You have done for me. Thank You for Your birth, death and resurrection. Today, fill my heart with praise. Give me a joy deep in my heart. Help me to know You in a profoundly personal way so I, too, return home glorifying and praising You for all the things I have seen and heard.
AMEN

Thanks

TODAY’S VERSE
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!”
Psalms 100:4 (ESV)

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
Philippians 4:6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It would seem, from our human viewpoint, that it is easier to give thanks to God when everything is going well, than it is when we have conflict and trouble in our life. When there is sickness, discouragement, failure, misunderstandings; when all seems to be lost, how can we give thanks? But thankfully, we have so much more that a human viewpoint. We have a Heavenly vantage. We see through the filter of God’s power, grace, mercy, peace and love. The privilege of knowing God transcends our circumstances. Who are we to enter His gates? What have we ever done to be invited into His courts? And yet we are. Our most precious and mighty God has invited us to know Him and to love Him and with that, we give thanks. And so, even when there are things to worry about, even when we have great needs, we can pray to our Heavenly Father. And with our prayers, we can give thanks. Oh that today, God would receive from our lips an offering of thanks.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I give You thanks for who You are. I give You thanks for Your grace, mercy, peace and love in my life. I give You thanks for making me Your child and promising to never leave me or forsake me. I praise You and thank You in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Gift

TODAY’S VERSE
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another counselor, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.”
John 14:16

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Can you imagine someone knocking on your door and giving you a check for a hundred million dollars? Think of all you could do with that. How tragic would it be if you thanked the person, closed the door and put the check on your dresser top and never used it? Never helped anyone, never bettered your own situation. Instead, you live a meager existence, paycheck to paycheck, and die a pauper. We would shake our head and mutter, “What a shame to waste such a resource.” And yet, what must God the Father think of what we have done with the precious gift of His Holy Spirit? Jesus asked the Father to give us a counselor who will never leave us and lead us into all truth, and He has. You and I, when we became a child of God, received His Holy Spirit into our life and yet we barely know this third part of the Trinity. When have we ever asked the Holy Spirit to fill us, guide us or lead us into truth? We have been given Spiritual Gifts but do we know what they are or how they work? How much time have we spent  contemplating how to cultivate the “fruit of the Spirit” in our life? God has indwelled us with the person of the Holy Spirit. Might we seek to understand more about this treasure that God has given us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Forgive me for not knowing more about Him. Forgive me for not living in His power. Oh Holy Spirit, I ask that you would make me conscious of your presence in my life. Teach me, guide me, fill me and lead me into all truth. I give You control of my life and pray that You would produce Your fruit in my life and activate the Spiritual Gifts that You have given me. I pray this in Jesus Name.
AMEN

Holy, Holy, Holy

TODAY’S VERSE
“Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, ‘Holy, holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.’ – And they lay their crowns before the throne and say, ‘You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.”’
Revelation 4:8-11 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
I remember as a young child reading the fourth chapter of Revelations. I didn’t quite understand about the living beings and the twenty-four elders but I do remember the phrase, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty!” It did for me then, what it still does today. It lifted me to the heights of heaven and dropped me to my knees at the same time. I remember thinking, “Who am I, Lord, that I would be allowed to worship You in this way?” I was humbled by my own unworthiness and yet mesmerized by the opportunity to join the multitude of heavenly hosts in praising God. It was as if I couldn’t help myself, something deep inside wanted to shout out, “Holy, Holy, Holy are You, God Almighty.” It was as if for that moment I was all that I was supposed to be. I still feel that way. I could be doing anything and when a song with the phrase, “Holy, Holy, Holy” comes on, I have to stop and give my gratitude, allegiance and worship to God. How about you? Today, give God your worship. Take your place with the hosts of heavens and cry out, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come. You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Mighty God, I come and bow before You. I worship You for You are Holy, Holy, Holy. Truly You deserve all my praise. I love You, Lord.
AMEN

More Than Conquerors

TODAY’S VERSE
“In all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”
Romans 8:37 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Life can get hard. There are so many days that I wake up and I can hardly conquer brushing my teeth, let alone all the battles I have lined up for the day. How can I possibly win the difficulties I am facing? And yet Paul writes, “Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?” Paul answers, “No despite all these things”; despite all these struggles and difficulties, what? Despite all that life can dish out, “in all things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” But this isn’t simply getting a victory in a negative circumstance. No, Paul says that we are more than a conqueror. It is more than coming out on top of a difficulty. It is living with the realization that we are His child no matter what our circumstances. We are more than a conqueror, we are His ambassador.  We have been chosen by God to live for Him and are part of His family. Today, when problems come up, when it seems that everything is going wrong, remember that Christ has given you everything you need to be a conqueror. But more than a conqueror, He has called you to be His beloved child, an heir with Christ, set free with His blood and given power by His resurrection.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, thank You for making me more than a conqueror over all the difficulties I go through. Thank You for loving me and giving me everything I need to live for You. Help me believe this Father and live in it’s reality today.
AMEN

Fear Not

TODAY’S VERSE
“I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”
Psalm 34:4-7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day do you fear something? You get called into the office and you are sure you are going to get fired. Your child is late and your mind goes crazy with thoughts of what might have happened. Your spouse is in “that” mood again and you know it is going to get ugly. The credit card bills came in the mail and you don’t know how you are going to pay them. You found a lump and you are waiting for the report from the Doctor’s office. Fear can be healthy, as in, “Don’t step in front of traffic.” But fear can also be false, an exaggeration, a lie. It started with Adam and Eve and it is the same today; most of our spiritual struggles center around a fear-based lie. Most spiritual battle is a struggle between the truth or a lie.  Which will we believe? Lie or truth? Our fear or God? David knew the answer. He prayed to God and God answered him and freed him from all his fears. The Lord listened and saved him from all his troubles and He will save you. What is it today that you fear? What is holding you back? What lie has you bound? What keeps you from being still and knowing that He is God? Today, renounce your fear. Bring it to God. Present it to Him. Choose to believe the truth about God and your circumstance and He will free you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my fears. I bring them to You. Help me, protect me, free me from this bondage of lies. Thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear. I choose to believe the truth and live by faith in You.
AMEN

Rest For The Weary

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is easy to get weary. There are so many demands on your life. You live at such a fast pace, burning the candle at both ends. The result is that you end up tired much of the time. Where do you turn? Where do you turn for relief, comfort, and escape from all the pressure? If not careful, you can find yourself victim to addictions, unhealthy relationships or negative emotions. But Jesus has a better way. He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” More than that, Jesus invites you to learn from Him. His teaching is easy, and His burden is light. So today, turn to Jesus. Bring your weary soul to Him. Give Him your circumstances and your emotions. Surrender yourself to His care. He promises that you will find rest for your soul.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my condition. I am weary and in need of renewal. I am so glad that You have invited me to come to You for rest. I know that You are gentle and humble in heart and will give me rest for my soul. So I come to You even now, Jesus. I put my soul into Your capable hands. Help me and heal me even now. I pray this in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

No Shame

TODAY’S VERSE
“But you are a shield around me, O LORD; you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.”
Psalms 3:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Shame. You know the drill. You drop your head and roll it down and away, as your shoulders slump and you let out a deep sigh. You talk, but it is without eye contact, constantly fighting looking down and away again. It is worst than a feeling of guilt. With guilt you can confess your wrong doing. Shame is deeper. It isn’t about “doing”, it’s about “being”. How do you repent of being something you are so ashamed of? How can you renew something that is so broken, so damaged, so worthless? Shame, more than an emotion, is a deeply worn brain map, a trait, a feeling that you are totally unworthy. But then there is God. God who comes and lifts up our head and whispers deep into our soul, “Don’t call what I have created worthless.” God, whose love for us can soften the calloused skin around our heart and begin to birth new life. God who bestows glory on us. He is the shame slayer. Today, let Him lift your head. And when He does, gaze into His face. Feel the glory He has given you. Let it radiate deep into your soul and believe. Believe you are loved. Believe that you were created for His glory and that your shame is a lie, a false belief, a shame given to you by others. Let Him tenderly lift your head and take away your shame.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I have felt such a deep sense of shame. I bring it to you today and ask You to banish it. Lift up my head and let me see Your face. Let Your deep love penetrate my heart and set me free. Today, let me see myself the way You do. In Jesus’ Name.
AMEN
