Fear Not

TODAY’S VERSE
“I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears. Those who look to him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces. In my desperation I prayed, and the LORD listened; he saved me from all my troubles. For the angel of the LORD is a guard; he surrounds and defends all who fear him.”
Psalm 34:4-7

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How many times a day do you fear something? You get called into the office and you are sure you are going to get fired. Your child is late and your mind goes crazy with thoughts of what might have happened. Your spouse is in “that” mood again and you know it is going to get ugly. The credit card bills came in the mail and you don’t know how you are going to pay them. You found a lump and you are waiting for the report from the Doctor’s office. Fear can be healthy, as in, “Don’t step in front of traffic.” But fear can also be false, an exaggeration, a lie. It started with Adam and Eve and it is the same today; most of our spiritual struggles center around a fear-based lie. Most spiritual battle is a struggle between the truth or a lie.  Which will we believe? Lie or truth? Our fear or God? David knew the answer. He prayed to God and God answered him and freed him from all his fears. The Lord listened and saved him from all his troubles and He will save you. What is it today that you fear? What is holding you back? What lie has you bound? What keeps you from being still and knowing that He is God? Today, renounce your fear. Bring it to God. Present it to Him. Choose to believe the truth about God and your circumstance and He will free you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my fears. I bring them to You. Help me, protect me, free me from this bondage of lies. Thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear. I choose to believe the truth and live by faith in You.
AMEN

We Live By Faith

TODAY’S VERSE
“For we live by believing and not by seeing.”
II Corinthians 5:7 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We live by faith. I sometimes wonder what was wrong with the disciples? They were with Jesus. They saw Him everyday, they saw the miracles, they heard the teachings, and yet, how many times did Jesus have to say, “Oh, you of little faith!” Thomas wouldn’t believe in the resurrection until he saw Jesus and the nail prints in His hands. And Jesus told him, “Thomas, you believe because you have seen with your own eyes. How blessed are they who believe and yet have not seen?” And that is our calling. We see without seeing. We live by faith. Paul writes, “Now we see things imperfectly as in a cloudy mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity.” We live in what John Wimber called the “here and not yet”. It means that the Kingdom of God has come to earth but we are not in Heaven yet. However, for this world God has assured us that faith is enough. The truth is Thomas did see Jesus everyday, yet he doubted  that Jesus rose from the dead. And so with us, it is not seeing that makes the difference in our life, it is faith. The author of Hebrews writes, “Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” With faith we can have hope and certainty. Finally, Paul wrote, “We live by believing, not by seeing.” Today, trust God. Put your faith in Him. Look at life with your spiritual eyes and you will see that faith has a sight of its own.
 
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live by faith. Help me see with Your eyes. Help me use hope and belief as my instruments to navigate through this life. I trust You. I believe in You. Guide me by faith, I pray.

Lead Me

TODAY’S VERSE
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverb 3:5-6

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When I was trained in wilderness school the goal was to teach us to be a good guide. They took us on courses and training where our lives were literally in the hand of the person leading us. The training guide knew where we were and how to get us where we were going. They knew the terrain and how to survive any and every condition. A wilderness is a wild and unpredictable environment and a good guide will get you through it. We need a guide to get us through the mountains and valleys of this life. We need a guide to lead us through the difficult times, when we seem lost and all is hopeless. Solomon says to, “Trust in the Lord with all our heart” and He will direct our path. More specifically, Jesus promised that He will give us the Holy Spirit to be our guide. God, through the Holy Spirit, will lead us into all truth. And in the wilderness, truth is King! There is no room for error; you need the truth to guide you every step of the way. So, where are you today? Where are you going? How will you get there? You need the Holy Spirit to be your guide. Proverbs warns us not to lean on our own understanding but to acknowledge our need for God. Come to God today and ask Him to lead you. Surrender to His guidance and let Him direct your paths. Might the verse of an old Sunday School song be your prayer today, “My God knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, You know how I need You to direct my path today. I can’t do it by myself. I surrender to you and ask that you would lead me through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Guide me, direct me, lead me this day. AMEN

I Will Be With You

TODAY’S VERSE
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Isaiah 43:2

“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:20

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The difference between Christianity the religion and Christianity the lifestyle is the personal application of Biblical truth. We take His word personally. When God says, “I will be with you,” it is not a religious phrase, it is a reality that brings us comfort, strength and hope. When there was a famine in the land, God told Isaac to stay in the land for “I will be with you”. When Jacob was in danger, God told him to return to his home land and said, “I will be with you”. When God commissioned Moses to lead His people out of Egypt, Moses shared how he felt that he was incompetent. God said to do it anyway because, “I will be with you”. When God asked Joshua to take over for Moses and lead the people into the Promised Land, He told Joshua, “As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.” God asked Gideon to lead His people into battle and Gideon was afraid and asked God, “How can I rescue Israel?” God said, “I will be with you” When Jesus was leaving earth to return to God’s right hand and commissioned the Church to make disciples, He promised, “I will be with you always.”
Life has its trials. God has commissioned you and I to serve Him. The tasks may be difficult. We may face trials, temptations and struggles but take comfort in this, even today, God is with you. He will never, never, never leave you or forsake you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank you for your ever abiding presence. Thank you for the comfort I find in the fact that You are with me. Today, make me keenly aware that nothing can separate me from You. Help my heart be filled with faith in the reality that You will never leave me or forsake me. In Jesus Name.

An Open Door

TODAY’S VERSE
“Open for me the gates where the righteous enter, and I will go in and thank the LORD. These gates lead to the presence of the LORD, and the godly enter there.”
Psalms 118:19-20 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
An open door can make all the difference in the world. How many times have you sought solutions, answers or any form of direction and nothing seems to appear? If only something would open up. And all the while God is there bidding us come to Him. But it’s not good enough to just have an open door. You must go in. The Psalmist understood this. He cried out to God to open the gates into His presence and when God did, he entered. He entered into the presence of God and fellowshipped with Him. It made all the difference. For us everyday is an opportunity to enter into the sweet presence of God. But it’s our choice. We can walk by or enter the door and spend time with Him. Today choose God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I thank You for opening the door for me to fellowship with You. Lead me into Your presence so I might know You more.

In Your Presence

TODAY’S VERSE
“And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!”
Psalms 116:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What a gift we have been given. He has asked us to walk in His presence. But it is our choice to make. We don’t have to be alone and alienated from God. We can choose to live with the awareness of His presence and build a real and vital relationship with Him. Or we can choose to only be conscious of Him while we are at church or in one of life’s crisis situations. Of course, we don’t have to walk with God at all. We can live without Him. We can spend all our time walking through this world never being conscious of His love for us. But why? Why go down that path at all? God has an incredible love for you. He desires for you to fellowship with Him. He is ready to share with you His very presence. You never have to walk alone. Today, commit yourself to Him. Ask Him to fill your heart and open your eyes to all that He is. He will. And then you can say with the Psalmist, “And so I walk in the Lord’s presence as I live here on earth!”
 
TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose to follow You. I want to be conscious of Your presence. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and help me live in the awareness of Your love for me.

Come To Your Senses

TODAY’S VERSE
“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.”
I Corinthians 15:34 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It is so easy to deceive ourself, especially when it comes to living for God. We are too afraid to admit to ourselves, or anyone else, that we have “sin” so we begin to wear a mask and pretend to live a Christian life. We know the routine, the language, the ritual but do we know God and all the freedom He brings? Or perhaps we have followed everyone else to the bleachers and week after week we make the “game” on Sunday and cheer on our Pastor and their winning team. We are happy to be a spectator, even a rabid fan. We love watching. We know all about the game but never actually play. Paul knows all about pretending and says that in truth, we are living as if we don’t know God at all. And perhaps we don’t. He begs us to come back to our senses. He implores us to stop our sins, and to get to know God so we can live the way He wants us to. Stop all the habits, lies, cheating, fighting, bitterness, materialism, lust of whatever other behaviors that have us all tangled up. Today the madness stops. Today we come back to our senses and turn to God. He is waiting. He will forgive, He will restore. He will renew.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I have wandered so far. I have been happy to be in the bleachers wearing my mask. Today, I come to my senses and surrender my life to You. I want to know You and live for You. Help me to this end I pray.

I Cannot See

TODAY’S VERSE
“Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”
John 20:29

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’”
II Corinthians 12:9

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes we just have to step out in faith. Sight is not an option. We can’t see a way out. We don’t know which way to go. Everything is cloudy. We are so tired, so weary, so confused we have no where to go. But then grace appears. Not any grace, God’s sufficient grace. Grace to help you trust Him. Grace to give you courage. Grace to give you hope. Grace to give you wisdom. Grace to help you hold on when you think your strength is gone. Grace to go to bed and get up to face another day. Grace to let God be God. If you believe when you have not seen any reason why, Jesus said you will be blessed. So get up, lift up your hands, give whatever it is that you cannot see to Jesus. He promises that His grace is sufficient for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You in my weakness. I cannot see. I have no answers. All I have is Your grace and You promised that will be sufficient. You promised if I believe when I cannot see, I will be blessed. So I bow to You. I place my heart at Your feet. You are my Lord and I will follow You.

Keep It Simple

TODAY’S VERSE
“Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:32-33

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We can really complicate life, can’t we? There are so many motivations that keep us crazy with demands. There are so many things that we think we must do. We have lost all sense of simplicity. Jesus comes along and would say to us, “Stop the insanity! Stop filling your life with false needs and let Me fulfill your real need.” You see, Jesus knows the “one-thing.” He knows what is really important and He offers it to all His followers. He said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” The real secret to this life is found in the next. If we want success in this life, then we need to live in His Kingdom, instead of our own. We need to live in this world with heaven’s priority. God really does love you. Trust Him, live for Him and He promises that He will give you everything you need.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, You know my name. You know who I am. You also know my needs. Thank You, Father, that You promised that if I seek Your Kingdom above everything else, You will give me everything I need. So I come to You now, Father, and ask that You would help me live for you. I entrust my needs to You. In Jesus Name.

More

TODAY’S VERSE
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
Ephesians 3:20 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God is so much more than we believe He is. We barely begin to know anything about His infinite power, wisdom and love. It’s like looking at a pebble and saying we comprehend what Mt. Everest must look like. God’s provisions are so vast that if we were to exhaust all the resources of a multi-billionaire, we would barely be starting with God. So why is it we don’t dream big dreams for God? He has promised that He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine and yet we live a life without the miraculous. The secret is in knowing Him. And even that is a gift. A gift we need to pray for. We need to ask God to help us comprehend who He is and to allow us to dream for Him. He created us to be His ambassador of dreams. He lives through our visions, our hopes and aspirations. He longs for us to challenge Him, to create with Him and to partner in being change agents in this world. Paul put it this way, “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Today, let us ask God to strengthen us with His power and to fill us with His fullness so we will ask Him for the immeasurable, and trust Him to do more that we can ever imagine.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, what immeasurable mighty dreams do You have for my life? What is it that You want me to trust You for? Strengthen me, Lord, with Your power. Fill me with Your fullness. Help me believe You for great things.
