Love Not Fear

TODAY’S VERSE
“I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans?”
Isaiah 51:12 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is the opposite of “love”? Our first answer would no doubt be “hate.” I use to think so. However, the longer I live, the more I believe “fear” is the opposite of love. True, if I am going to act the opposite of love, it would be to hate. But if I am going to live in the opposite of love, it is fear! Fear keeps us from love’s reality. Fear tells us that the promises of love are nothing but lies. Fear chooses to doubt love’s sincerity. Worse, it doubts the lover. When we choose to believe fear, it means we have chosen not to believe God. He says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” And yet we act as if we are abandoned, all alone with God no where is sight. We need to start seeing God as God. We need to give up our fear beliefs and start to bond with God. We need to meditate on His love for us and then appropriate that love to every moment in our life. He is the one who comforts us. He is the one who will never leave us. He is the one who will never stop loving us. Today, believe it, rejoice in it, live as if it is true. It is.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I confess I live much of my life in quiet desperation. Fear is constantly challenging my faith. It stands between me and You. Today, I renounce that fear. I rebuke it in Your name and choose to believe in Your love for me. I believe you have not left me and will not forsake me. Help me, Father, to abandon fear and run to Your love. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Inseparable

TODAY’S VERSE
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.”
Romans 8:38 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It seems we start out believing by nature but soon become skeptical by practice. How many “guarantees” have you really experienced as true? We have been lied to, taken advantage of, and let down so many times we don’t know what to believe. But Paul knew one thing he was sure of. He was “convinced!” that nothing could separate him from the love of God. How many things are you convinced of? And what a difference being convinced can make. If you were convinced that you could invest $10,000 in a stock and get back $1,000,000, how long would it take you to get the $10,000? Paul had that same attitude toward the love of God. He was convinced that he could invest in God’s love and get back a peace that passes all understanding; God’s constant provision; the fruit of the Spirit; eternal life and so much more. Look over Paul’s check-off list. He was convinced that “nothing could separate us from God’s love. Not death nor life, angels nor demons, our fears for today or our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—or nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Today become convinced. God loves you and nothing will ever separate you from Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I believe, help my unbelief. I want to be convinced of Your love. Speak to my heart, move me, help me really understand how trustworthy You are and how spectacular Your love is for me.
AMEN

Right With God

TODAY’S VERSE
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”
Roman 3:22-24 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What an incredible plan. What an invitation. God allows us to be fully forgiven and made right with Him by believing in Him. I cannot make it any clearer than Paul. He writes, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” In God’s plan, it is by placing our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and receiving His death as the punishment for our sin, that we become right with Him. Have you done that? Have you come to Him and received Him as your Savior? If not, you can do it today. As Paul wrote, “This is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your wonderful plan of salvation. Thank You that the death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, paid for my sin. I put my faith in His death and accept Him as my Lord and Savior.
AMEN

Worship Him

TODAY’S VERSE
“Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”’
Revelation 4:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What is it about God’s Holiness that moves me so much? Holiness, I can’t comprehend it. I try to put my mind around it but it is too vast. I think what moves me when I sing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty” is the fact that this Holy God allows me to adore Him, to worship Him. To be in His presence and sing about the very thing that would normally separate me from Him is so humbling. His majesty, His power, His might, His Holiness; who are we that He would allow us to sing His praise? And yet He desires our praise. He rejoices in our worship. He invites us to say with all of Heaven, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Today, worship Him. He is Holy. He is worthy of all our praise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, how I adore You. How I worship You. Thank You for Your Holiness, majesty and power. Thank You for Your grace and love. Truly, You are worthy of all my praise.
AMEN

Significance

TODAY’S VERSE
“Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.”
Ephesians 1:4 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where do we get our significance from? Is it the accolades for the skills that we have? Is it praise for our achievements? Perhaps it is our job, money or notoriety in some field of endeavor. Maybe we get significance from those we align ourself with, those teams that we cheer or the position we have on certain topics. These all can manufacture some kind of significance, but the most precious significance of all is that which comes from our very innateness. Our significance comes for being the very creation of God that He chose to create and loves unconditionally. He created us to be holy and without fault in His eyes. In his book, “The Deeper Journey,” M. Robert Mulholland Jr. writes, “Here is the ultimate ground of our identity. You are a beloved child of God, spoken forth out of the heart of God’s love before the foundation of the world. The union of a man and woman that brought about your physical conception is only the secondary cause of your being. The primary center of your identity is the heart of God’s love.” So today, if you start to doubt about yourself, if you start to buy the lie that you are anything less that a loved child of God, remember this, God loves you and chose to make you His child before the world was ever created.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for creating me before You created the earth! Thank You that I am part of Your plan and dearly loved by You. Thank You that in You I have all the significance I will ever need.
AMEN

The Lord Bless You

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
So often we put the emphasis on us “following” God when we would be better off “responding” to God. We worry so much about how to love God when we all we really need to do is truly understand His love for us. If we really knew what today’s verse really meant how could loving God ever be an issue? How could we ever be worried about following Him? But do we really believe that God desires to bless us and keep us? Do we see God as a loving God that turns His face toward us with such a focus that it is as His face is shining right on us? It is this daunting attention from our loving God that causes us to love Him. It is this knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that His intention is to bless us and keep us, to be gracious with us and give us peace that causes us to follow Him without reservation. John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, said it best, “We love Him because He first loved us.” Today know that God has blessed you and kept you. Understand that He has turned His face toward you and has shined it upon you. Finally receive the peace that comes from knowing His unconditional love.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your awareness of me. Thank You for shining Your face on me. Thank Your for turning Your face toward me and giving me peace. Today Lord, help me live in this reality.
AMEN

Forgive

TODAY’S VERSE
“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How much of life would be easier if we could forgive? Resentment, bitterness, rage, remorse, guilt, so many damaging toxic emotions can come out of an unforgiving heart. But it is hard to forgive. That is why we need to turn to Christ for help. When we do, He will gently show us His scars and remind us of how much we have been forgiven. He will remind us of His unconditional love and we will begin to find the strength we need to be more like Him. Mother Teresa knew what it was like to live a life of love and sacrifice. She wrote, “If we admit that we are sinners and we need forgiveness, then it will be very easy for us to forgive others. But if we don’t admit this, it will be very hard for us to say, ‘I forgive you’ no matter who comes to us.” Today remind yourself of God’s love and all that He has forgiven you of, and then go and do likewise.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, might Your love fill my heart and soul and give me all the strength and courage I need to forgive those that have hurt me. Help me today to forgive others the way You have forgiven me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Patience

TODAY’S VERSE
“Being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.”
Colossians 1:11 (NIV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is – patience!”
Galatians 5:22 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Patience can be a very difficult to come by and yet what a powerful attribute to have. Think of all that could be done if we acted with patience instead of haste and pressure. Think of all the aggravation that could have been avoided had we waited just a little longer. Think of all the headache and tension that could have been obsolete had we just had patience. Patience is a sign of God’s presence in our life. It is the result of His Spirit living in us, strengthening us with His might! Today, when difficulties come, when plans get foiled or someone else’s urgency becomes our emergency, let us ask for patience. Let us cry out to God for strength and endurance and by His grace, patience will be a fruit of the Spirit that is alive in us.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your presence in my life. Thank You for the strength and endurance that You give me. I pray that it will produce the patience that I need  for today.
AMEN

God’s Word

TODAY’S VERSE
“The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart.”
Psalms 19:8 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
The Bible is a precious gift from God. Divinely inspired, it was written in order that we might know how to live. The Bible inspires, convicts, guides, warns and teaches us. David wrote that believing what the Bible says is right and following its precepts brings joy to our heart.
He then goes on to share in a very poetic way, how valuable the word of God is. He writes, “The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. – The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.” Today, spend time with God and His word and let it bring a deep joy into your heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your word. Speak to me, guide me, correct me, inspire me. Teach me how to live. Give me a deep and lasting joy deep down in my heart.
AMEN

A Fruitful Life

TODAY’S VERSE
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10 (NIV)
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

 TODAY’S THOUGHT
I live so much of life as if it all depended on me. I must achieve. I must make people happy. You know, “If it’s going to be, then it’s up to me!” mentality. Now this might be good filler for a PMA book (Positive Mental Attitude) but how realistic is it? More than that, how Biblical is it? Don’t get me wrong, I believe in personal accountability but we need to realize that we cannot live the kind of life Christ wants us to without Him. He is the one that came to give us a full life. It is “with” Him. We need to add faith to whatever we do. We need to bring God into the picture. We do this by changing “me” to a “we”. It is “Christ in us” that makes all the difference in the world. Jesus said that He came to give us a life that is to the full. He didn’t come to make us busy, or famous, or rich, or any other obsession that we may have. He came to give us the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This is what He wants our life to be built on. This is the life He desires for us. Today, let’s quit striving and start living. Come to Jesus and let Him fill you with His Holy Spirit. Ask Him to produce the “fruit of the Spirit” in your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I ask that You would produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit in my life. Help me live for You in Your strength and Your power.
AMEN
