The God Of All Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is hope and then there is HOPE. At first it would seem that the difference would be the degree of our trust in Him. Little trust, little hope. Large trust, large hope. But as we read today’s verse we see it is not trust that makes the difference as much as what we have our trust in. Hope comes from the fact that we trust in the magnificence of God. Paul says that God is the source of our hope and that it is God that completely fills us with joy and peace. It is God that gives us His Holy Spirit whose power causes us to overflow with a confident hope. So today put your trust in Almighty God, the God of all power, the God of all love and let Him fill you completely with joy, peace and hope.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I pray that You would fill me completely with joy, peace and hope through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Help me overflow with a confident hope in You and Your love for me. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

Give God The Glory

TODAY’S VERSE
“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God – Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God.”
Deuteronomy 8:10-14

TODAY’S THOUGHT
We have all heard stories about those that went through severe trial leaving them deeply hurt, dejected and wavering in their faith. Who of us would judge someone in such a tragic situation? Rather we pray and ask God to make Himself real to them in their time of sorrow. Yet, what is far more common is the ordinary story of tens of thousands of Christians who, growing up in the faith, buy into the American dream, give in to materialism and become nominal in their faith. God warns us to be careful, very careful that when things go good, we do not forget Him. How could that happen you ask? Moses says it can happen when we eat and are satisfied, build fine houses, settle down, earn income (sound like anyone you know?) and become proud. We start to believe that it is our ability, our skills, our intelligence, our savvy that has produced all that we have. We fail to give God glory and soon our heart grows cold toward spiritual things. There is hope for the wounded heart to be healed, but what hope is there for the callous, dried up heart? The only hope is to repent! Give God back His glory which you have stolen. Fall down before Him and praise Him for all that you have. Ask Him to renew your heart, to open your eyes to His goodness and give back all that you have to Him for His use. Make Him the Lord of your income and possessions. When you do, you will find that materialism will lose its hold on your heart and your soul will be free and alive with the love of God.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, to think that I have created my own income, am master of my own possessions and the sole reason for my own success is to rob You of Your glory. I know I have fallen to this temptation. It is so easy to forget that You are the giver of all good things. Forgive me, Lord. I give You back all that I have. Be Lord of everything I am and own. Help me to live my life for You and to give You praise and glory for every blessing You give me. In Jesus’ name. AMEN

Never Forsaken

TODAY’S VERSE
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6

“Be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”
Hebrews 13:5

TODAY’S THOUGHT
One of the first things they teach you in marriage communications is to stay away from using emotionally fatalistic words like “never” or “always”, as in, “You never help around here!” or “You always waste money.” It is very rare that human behavior is “always” or “never”. But what about God? The Bible makes it clear that His ways are not our ways. In Romans 3:4 it says, “Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true!” Now consider today’s verse in light of the fact that God does not lie. Moses tells us to be strong and courageous and not afraid. The author of Hebrews wrote to be content with what you have. Why all the optimism? Why the courage? Because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” God Himself has said to you and I, “Never.” Never. NEVER! Let it sink in – He will never leave you or forsake you! Today, right now, let this fact change your day. Let it reshape your emotions. Let it precede all your decisions. He will never leave you or forsake you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I wander through most days with so much doubt. Perhaps apathy is a better word. I live as if You half exist. I haven’t taken most of Your promises seriously. I have not been content. Most the time I am not strong or courageous. Forgive me for this. Help me really grasp what it means that You will never leave me or forsake me. Help me understand what that promise really means to me today. Thank you, Lord, for all Your love for me. Help me to love You. In Jesus’ name.

AMEN

He Will Never Forsake You

TODAY’S VERSE

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are many promises in the Bible, but I think the one that is most precious to me is when He promises that He will never leave me or forsake me. It boggles my mind to think that God promises such a thing to me. I know that there are universes and solar systems. I know that there are billions of people. And with each person there are multitudes of situations that need God’s attention. And yet, He is God. In His sovereign magnificence He has declared that He will not leave me or forsake me. Never. What comfort. What hope. What joy it brings to my heart. No wonder this same author could conclude, “We can say with confidence, ‘The LORD is my helper, so I will have no fear.’” Today, bring whatever struggles you have, whatever fears, whatever guilt, whatever sorrow and lay it before God. Then hear Him say, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your wonderful promise that You will never leave me nor will You forsake me. Thank You for Your faithful love. Thank You for Your grace. Fill my heart with peace and joy, I pray. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

The Holy Spirit

TODAY’S VERSE
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. – For the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.”
Romans 8:26-27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today’s passage puts a whole new meaning to the phrase, “You are never alone.” It goes way beyond telling someone, “God loves you.” It goes straight to our deepest needs. Paul paints a picture of the Holy Spirit coming before God in deep, deep concern, groaning as He intercedes for us, pleading with God Almighty to move in our life according to His will. Stop for a minute. Try to grasp what is going on. Close your eyes and see if you can picture it. The Holy Spirit praying, pleading, groaning on your behalf. What love, what empathy, what compassion. What peace, what comfort, what love. And it changes everything. We are not alone. We don’t have to live as if everything depends on us. We can put all our trust in Him. Today, might we have a deep sense of gratitude and love for the presence of the Holy Spirit in us. Might we be moved with a profound reverence and awe for our Heavenly Father who loves us in such an amazing way.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Oh Holy Spirit, how I marvel at Your intercession for me. How humbled I am that You would act with such love for me. How deeply moved I am that You would pray and plead on my behalf. Thank You so much for all You do and are.
AMEN

Loving God

TODAY’S VERSE
“I love You, Lord.”
Psalms 18:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As David mused on the fact that God was his rock, fortress, savior, shield, power that saved him and his place of safety, he was overwhelmed and cried out, “I love You, Lord.” When is the last time you told God that you loved Him? Sure, you have praised Him, worshipped, sang songs. But when was the last time your heart was overwhelmed and you cried out to God, “I love you, Lord!” He wants our heart. More than obedience, more than ritual, more than all the good we do. These are important, but they don’t replace telling God that you love Him. What is God to you? Today, stop what you are doing, take a deep breath, focus on God’s presence and tell Him you love Him. He is worthy of all our love. Sometimes you just need to say it.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father, with all my heart, I love You!
Amen

Hang On

TODAY’S VERSE
“The testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:3-4 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we can’t, God is able. This is the mystery. There is something about God’s timing. Just when you think you can’t make it one more step, He gives you the strength. Just when you can’t understand He gives wisdom. Paul tells us to, put on the full armor of God and stand our ground, and after we have done everything to stand, then we still stand firm! But how? How can we persevere? How can we stand when everything around us is sinking? James tells us how. He finishes today’s verse by writing, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” God gives the wisdom we need. He provides the strength. He provides the ability to hang on. Our perseverance finishes its work, helping us mature in Christ. That is why Paul writes in his own testimony, “When I am weak, then I am strong.” Today, might the same be true for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me today to persevere. Help me hang on. Give me the wisdom I need so even in my weakness I can be strong in You. Thank You Father.
AMEN

Delight And Desire

TODAY’S VERSE
“May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.”
Psalms 20:4

“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Psalms 37:4

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God cares about our plans and desires. He cares about our dreams and aspirations. David knew this and prayed that God would grant our heart’s desires and make all our plans succeed. But he also knew that we are fickle, immature and many times unspiritual. Can you imagine God granting every selfish and immature desire we have had? Can you imagine if God allowed our envy, jealous and lustful desires to come true? What about vengeance, isn’t that a desire of the heart? That is why in Psalms 37:4 we read the “rest of the story.” David says that our first goal should be to delight ourself in the Lord, then we will get the desire of our heart. I heard one preacher say it this way. “Love God and do as you please.” What he was saying was, if we truly love God, then our desires will line up with His. So today, start to delight in God. Really delight in Him. Love Him, get to know Him, worship Him. Start to delight in what He thinks and desires for your life. If you do, you will align your desires with His. When this happens, you can pray with David, “May He grant my heart’s desires and make all my plans succeed.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, help me delight in You today. Might You be my source of joy, passion and purpose. Help my plans and desires line up with Your goals for my life. I commit my life to You and trust You to guide me day by day. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

Comfort And Hope

TODAY’S VERSE
“LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.”
Psalms 10:17 (NLT)

“Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping.”
Romans 4:18 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
There are times when we feel helpless. But it doesn’t mean we are hopeless. David shared that God can give us hope no matter how helpless we feel. He hears our cries and will bring us comfort. That is why Abraham kept hoping even when there was no reason for hope. Even when circumstances did not make any sense, it was the comfort of hope that allowed Abraham’s faith not to weaken. Paul shared that “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.” Why did his faith grow stronger? Because He knew God and “he was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.” How my heart yearns for that kind of faith, that kind of trust, that kind of hope. Today, may we know God like David. May we believe God like Abraham. May our faith grow stronger. Today, let us keep hoping.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me know You better. Increase my faith. Help me to trust in You and be comforted and full of hope. In Jesus’ name.
AMEN

God Alone

TODAY’S VERSE
“Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.”
Psalms 5:2-3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s not God plus. That is what happened to the children of Israel. They turned from God toward idols. Oh, they kept their form of religion but added idolatry until it became dominant in their thinking and actions. How about you? What are you trusting in? Is it your job? Your education? Your reputation? Do you trust in positive thinking or some other worldly philosophy? Have you crowded out God for some other form of comfort? David came to God each morning. When he was troubled, he cried out to God; no one else, just God. And God heard his prayers. David trusted God and waited patiently for Him. Today, you can do the same. He is trustworthy. His love for you is boundless, His mercy is endless and His grace is sufficient for all your needs. Might you say with David, “I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I come to You and You alone for all I need. Forgive me when I have turned to other things. I know better. You are sufficient. I know Your love for me is boundless. So today, I come and I bring all my requests, hopes and dreams to You. Thank You, Father.
AMEN
