Be Not Afraid

TODAY’S VERSE
“Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.”
Psalms 27:3 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Sometimes the best way to overcome something is to replace it with the opposite. David decided to do this with fear. When he was surrounded by a mighty invading army he had a choice to make. He could go with the normal response of fear or he could replace fear with the opposite. He could fill his heart with confidence in God. It was this love that he had for God and the love he knew God had for him that allowed him to exercise confidence. He was trusted in God’s love. The Bible says, “perfect love casts out fear.” Add to perfect love an all powerful God and you have a real confidence maker. Today, when stress comes into your life, when you are tempted to become overwhelmed, put your trust in God. Step out in faith and let confidence in Him take over.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Thank You Father, that You are trustworthy. You are all powerful and all loving. I come to you today and lay my fears at Your feet. Give me the confidence to completely trust in You.
AMEN

Overcoming Lust

TODAY’S VERSE
“Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.”
Ephesians 4:21-23 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Everyday we make choices. Some choices however are more subtle than others. For example, the old saying, “Not to decide is to decide already.” Otherwise, if you need to make a choice and you do not say “yes” to it, then you have really chosen against it whether you felt that way or not. It is like that with most of the things that we “lust” after. Lusting implies that we are desiring something that we cannot (or should not) have at that moment. The trouble, however, is not in the one time choice to lust. Very few of us struggle with that. It is the rebound effect that gets us in trouble. You know, get close to something you know is wrong, withdrawal and then rebound getting closer the next time. As time moves on we find ourself finally in the grips of the thing we were trying not to lust after. How much better to choose ahead of time not to trifle with those habits, thoughts and behaviors that lead to trouble. We do this by asking the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts and attitudes. Then God can help us discern what temps us and determine ahead of time to set our limits and boundaries. Today, let us give our various temptations over to God and ask Him to help us overcome them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, You know that I struggle with lust and need Your help. Renew my thoughts and attitudes so I can live the way you want me to. Help me continue to say “no” and put away those things that war against me.

Do Good To Others

TODAY’S VERSE
“Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.”
Proverbs 3:27 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How serious God takes our benevolence. We are His chosen representatives. We act in this world on His behalf. How then can we take the principles of the God who is love and not obey them? How can we withhold good from those in need if it is in our power to help them? In the Jewish law the Israelites were told not to be tightfisted. In the book of James the author tells Christians that if someone comes to us naked and hungry and we say to them, “God bless you, be fed be clothed” and do nothing to help them, how can the love of God be in us? There are all kinds of hurts and needs and so many of the people around us suffer with one kind or another. All it takes is a little time and some empathy and we will find more people to help then we ever imagined. Today, let the Spirit of God lead you to someone in need. When He does, do whatever is in your power to help them.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord, I thank You that You have called me to be like You, a lover of people. Help me see others through Your eyes and then give me the strength and grace to do all I can to help them.

Get Wisdom

TODAY’S VERSE
“Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding.”
Proverbs 3:13 (NLT)

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
James 1:5 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Do you want joy? True deep down joy? Then find wisdom. There is nothing more satisfying that having wisdom when you need it the most. Wisdom comes in different ways. Wisdom can be having knowledge about something. Wisdom can be an insight or understanding that makes everything clear. Or wisdom can be the ability to makes good solid judgments. The good news is that we all can have wisdom. James tells us that if we need wisdom, all we have to do is ask God. He will give us the wisdom we need. He will not rebuke us for asking. Solomon tells us to seek wisdom with all of our heart, as if it were gold! Today, seek wisdom. Ask God to help you have the understanding you need as you face your many challenges. He will give it to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your precious promise that if I ask for wisdom, that You will give it to me. I need Your guidance. I desire understanding. Help me even today to have all the wisdom I need.

Trust In The Lord

TODAY’S VERSE
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
In our western society we are always seeking to understand. Reason, logic and the scientific method rule our universities. There is nothing wrong with trying to understand, but some situations take more. They are beyond our human reasoning. Our logic can be faulty, our thinking clouded with personal agenda and false assumptions. In this world we must include the spiritual. We are human and were created to be in fellowship with God. He has intended that we seek Him for wisdom and understanding. We use faith to seek the will of our loving and tender God. In today’s passage Solomon is encouraging us to trust in God with our heart. When our mind cannot understand, we allow our heart to reach out to God. We don’t depend on our own attempt at understanding. And as we seek His will in all we do, God promises that He will show us what path to take. There is wisdom with Him. Today, as you go through your day, trust in God. Submit to Him and let Him guide you. He will direct your path.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, today I choose to trust You. I seek to do Your will, knowing that as I do, You will direct my path.

Love God

TODAY’S VERSE
“You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.”
Luke 10:27

TODAY’S THOUGHT
God created us for a relationship with Himself. Our purpose is to love Him. Specifically we are to love Him with all our heart, soul and strength. But how do we do this? In his book “Sacred Companions” Dr. Benner writes, “To know God we must think of Him, not simply about Him. We must learn to spend time gazing on Him, being still before Him and focused on Him. And we must learn to listen to Him. These disciplines of loving attention form the basis of the development of a love relationship with Him.” But what do we do if we find it hard to love God with all our heart? Dr. Benner suggests “God doesn’t want me to try to be more loving. He wants me to absorb His love so that it flows out from me. And so I return again to knowing myself as deeply loved by God. I meditate on His love, allowing my focus to be on Him and His love for me, not me and my love for Him.” Today, let your love for God grow by taking time to be still before Him and focus on His incredible love for you.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your love for me. Help me to understand it more fully so I can learn to love You with my whole heart.

Knowing His Love

 TODAY’S VERSE
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Knowing about God’s love is much different than knowing His love. We can hear all about Europe, see pictures, even view videos but can anything prepare us for actually being along the Mediterranean Sea? In his book, “Surrender To Love”, Dr. David Benner writes, “Ask Christains what they believe about God, and most will have a good deal to say. However, ask the same people what they know about God from direct personal experience, and most will have much less to say…even evangelicals who talk the most about a personal relationship wit God – will not have much to say about how they actually experience God in that relationship.” It is easy to live our life, going from circumstance to circumstance and not be aware of the presence of God and His love. We must stop and be purpose full in  “being rooted and established in love”. It takes time to know God and “grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ”. Spending time with God is the only way to “know this love that surpasses knowledge.” Today, spend time reading His word, praying to Him and asking Him to reveal His love to you.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Father, today I commit my self to know You and Your love in a more deep and intimate way. Holy Spirit, help me to that end I pray in Jesus’ name.

God Is My Strength

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.”
Psalms 28:7 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
You will not get anywhere in your spiritual life until you really believe in God’s intentions. God specifically created you because He wants your fellowship. He wants your love. He desires for you to spend time in prayer with Him. He loves it when you look to Him as your strength. That is what David did. David said that his heart trusted in God and when he did God helped. God wants to be your strength in relationships, in heartaches, in struggles, in conflict, in crisis, in the everyday grind of work, in difficulties, in temptations, in all that would weigh you down. God’s power is not the issue here. It is your faith, your willingness, your humility. Today, when you find yourself in need, why not turn to God for His strength. He will help. Then you too will find your heart leaping for joy as you give thanks to God for being your strength.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, I need Your strength. Forgive me when I try to do things on my own. Help me to be conscious of Your presence so I will turn to You in my time of need. In Jesus’ name.

God’s Faithfulness

TODAY’S VERSE
“The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”
I Samuel17:37 (NIV)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
If we would remember all the times that God delivered us from trouble we would enjoy a much more peaceful life. So many times I start my day as if it was the only day I have ever lived. Now I don’t mind forgetting some of the bad things in my life but when I begin to live as if God were not alive then I need to do some memory exercises. God has created us with a powerful memory so we could grow mentally, socially and spiritually. Throughout the Bible we are admonished to “remember” the goodness of God. Hope, peace, faith all come out of a memory of God’s faithfulness in the pass. David was going to fight Goliath and all he took with him was a sling, five smooth stones and a memory of God’s deliverance. Listen to what he said when he went to face the giant. “The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” What are you facing? What giant is between you and victory? Remember God’s faithfulness in the past and trust Him with today.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, than You for Your faithfulness in my life. Help me remember all the good things you have done and how you have acted on my behalf. Then when trial and struggles come, help me step out in faith knowing that you are the same today that You were yesterday.

How Should We Live?

TODAY’S VERSE
“We live in such a way that no one will stumble because of us, and no one will find fault with our ministry. – We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.”
II Corinthians 6:3, 6 (NLT)

TODAY’S MESSAGE
Christ has commanded us to be His servants in this world. We are representing Him. When people see us they should see Him. Paul knew this. In today’s passage we see that Paul was trying to live in such a way that nobody would be able to discredit the Lord because of his ministry. But how did he do this? He did it by the way he lived. He was able to overcome allegations by his pure lifestyle. He did not participate in the worldly practices that those around him did. This allowed him to have moral authority. His understanding of God, the scriptures, his ministry and the culture also allowed him to be above reproach. Paul was also patient in his suffering. He trusted God and it showed others that they too could trust their heavenly Father. This was perhaps one of his biggest weapon in the fight against being discredited. Paul was kind and this kindness went far in given him favor with the people. Paul’s kindness caused many to consider believing in the God he believed in. Paul also believed deeply in the Holy Spirit and allowed Him to move in the hearts of those that would oppose Him. It was the Holy Spirit that filled Paul with love, joy, peace, patience and all the other attributes that he needed to be effective in his testimony of Christ’s love. Finally it was Paul’s sincere love that enabled him to live among so many different people groups and win people to Christ. Love was the international language that cut through cultural barriers and allowed people to hear Christ’s message of salvation. Today, let us go into the world that God has called us to minister in. Let’s live the same way Paul did and help others to come to a saving knowledge of Christ.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, help me live like Paul. Help me live in a way that those around me every day would see something in me that would lead them to You.
